However, in BTS book Beyond the Story, they mention this song was written at a time BTS was going through period where they felt overwhelming pressure. They were going through pain but they would only show the Happy Face in front of the people they love. This song is from the LYS Tear album which also follow the FAKE LOVE song was THE TRUTH UNTOLD, another song about putting a mask on because they are afraid the one they love will turn away if they take off their mask.

If someone only loves you for the version of yourself that you have become for them, it is not true love. It is a shallow and fake form of affection that will automatically leave you feeling unfulfilled and unloved. It is important to love and accept yourself for who you are rather than trying to be someone you think others want you to be. P.s. I think BTS are referring to "Fake Love" within Army, friends, or family. Any form of love, from artist to fans or from person to person and even your own self love within yourself.

That first teaser and MVs are part of BU story. The last scene of extended version of MV is about wearing masks by idols(artists) for fans(because of mass media most of all and for fans who thinks that they are perfect in everything and they never do mistakes).Song is about fake love of fans(more about akgae solo stans, sasaengs, shippers).
