Many people interpret this song as a romantic relationship failing. However, in BTS book Beyond the Story, they mention this song was written at a time BTS was going through period where they felt overwhelming pressure. They were going through pain but they would only show the Happy Face in front of the people they love. This song is from the LYS Tear album which also follow the FAKE LOVE song was THE TRUTH UNTOLD, another song about putting a mask on because they are afraid the one they love will turn away if they take off their mask.

The last scene of extended version of MV is about wearing masks by idols(artists) for fans(because of mass media most of all and for fans who thinks that they are perfect in everything and they never do mistakes).Song is about fake love of fans(more about akgae solo stans, sasaengs, shippers). But also song is about fake love of yourself(BTS message is loving yourself)

At that time I wondered, are we as an Army asking too much of our Boys? because when I heard this song for the first time it felt like they were trying hard to please the Army, following our wishes and hopes, but we still wanted more and more. Was our love a fake love for our precious Boys? We only want their beauty but not their ugly side? Yes, 2018 was a very difficult year for BTS and Army. But now the whole world knows that bts and army are very solid.

when you love someone or desire their love it can be easy to lose site of who you truly are in the process. find yourself changing aspect of yourself in order to fit the mold of what you think they want. However, this can lead to a loss of authenticity and a sense of emptiness within yourself. True love should be based on genuine connection and acceptance of each other as you are, not on trying to be someone you are not. If someone only loves you for the version of yourself that you have become for them, it is not true love. It is a shallow and fake form of affection that will automatically leave you feeling unfulfilled and unloved. It is important to love and accept yourself for who you are rather than trying to be someone you think others want you to be. P.s. I think BTS are referring to "Fake Love" within Army, friends, or family. Any form of love, from artist to fans or from person to person and even your own self love within yourself.

SPOILER TO BU: But the snickers represent j-hope's narcolepsy, where his mother gives him a chocolate bar and tells him to close his eyes in the middle of an amusement park and tells him to wait until she is back but she never returns. As a result, jhope is abandoned with a bar of chocolate in his hand. And as the teaser shows trading snicker bars, this represents him trying to trade in his bad memories of his abandonment.
