Best team in the league was in fact the Bucks at 58-24. So you are juking the stats a bit my friend. By any measure, Embiid was better in the regular season-- and MVP is a regular season award. I'm pretty sure most players would prefer a title to winning MVP anyway.

You can have your own opinion on who is a better MVP pick, but can we just praise their performance on the floor than saying someone is "more deserved" or "got robbed"? SGA is a very potent MVP candidate, and so is Jokic. Either of them win the MVP is well deserved. I just don't know why now more and more fans become like this. As a basketball fan, I think people should just enjoy the game and appreciate that we have a chance to see them play in person or on LIVE.

So "baddest mf in the NBA" is kind of completely an arbitrary eye-test metric so I decided to look at the facts. Jokic has the most winshares in the NBA (MVP is basically a winshare award) which means out of any player, he adds the most wins to his team. Shai has 14.6, Jokic has 17. He also has more winshares/48 meaning he wins more with the same amount of minutes. He has the highest BPM meaning he creates the largest point differential in the NBA. (both causing less points to go in for the other team while contributing more points to his team compared to Shai.) Season wise, Nuggets fell off pretty hard from last year and he's somewhat the sole reason they even tied for first place in western conference standings, wherein Thunder got massively better compared to last season.

I would've followed Jokic's own words, and given the award to SGA. Jokic is a player, who truly doesn't care about awards. While some young players like Shai might get a motivational boost out of one. Jokic was deserving of the award. But he has two already, so it would've been OK to give this to one to Shai. Embiid winning it last year was a bit of a mistake. But that's now history.

to me the only metrics that should be taken: best player on the team with the best difference% in/out the roster / the team has to make the playoffs at least, forget about the ranking. you have to acknowledge Shaqs point, if you're gonna name the award most valuable player then you have to give it to the most valuable player in the league, this is not the case though as every year it goes to the best player on the best TEAM.

It almost never goes to the best player on the best team. Philly wasn’t the best team last year, and Denver wasn’t the best team the previous two years. Milwaukee wasn’t the best team when Giannis won, and Westbrook got it for sixth place. Harden certainly didn’t come because they were the best team. If it went to the guy on the best team it would be Tatum‘s award and nobody else would be close.

Like the NFL, the NBA should have an OFFENSIVE Player of the Year award along w/ the MVP. So this year obviously Luka would have won the OPOY whereas the criteria for the MVP (best [most impactful] player on best team) could go to guys that play 2-way or just are overall dominant on the top 1-2 seeded teams.

Regardless of how y’all feel about shaq, the mvp should not be the best player on the best team. “Most valuable” player means the player who has been most valuable to their team during the regular season. Tatum is not an mvp caliber player yet is the best player on the best team. That logic is so flawed imo

I think the league should add an Offensive player of the year like the nfl. That award would go to the guy with the best stats, whereas the mvp would be the best player on the best team.
