Jarkko Ahola and Netta Skog - Finlandia REACTION (Patreon request)

Jean Sibelius composed Finlandia 1899 for symphony orchestra and 1900 did version for piano. The part that Jarkko sang is called Finlandia hymn and was originally for choir. Jarkko has recorded it with symphony orchestra featuring a well know Finnish male choir to accompany his lead vocals. Impressive track.

My understanding is that recording Finlandia by Jarkko was only proceeded after official permission was received from Sibelius family.

Finlandia has been widely used throughout the world, in religios communities starting from Italy as well as other purposes also in US, with varying lyrics. Very interesting that you both know it so well.

Yeah. And the copyright is German. Bad record deal for Janne. Luftwaffe used this for propaganda in ww2, and African country Biafra had it for national anthem. Both nazis and Biafra are long gone, but Finlandia is alive and kicking.

'Maammelaulu' is the official National Anthem of Finland, 'Finlandia' could perhaps best be described as the National Hymn, which defines the existence of our country, people and culture. EDIT: Maammelaulu has earned its position by law of custom, there is no mentioning of anthem in the Finnish governmental law.

Interesting patreon request. Finlandia is not national anthem of Finland, even thou some says it should be. I don't know about that. We should ask our war veterans, but they are so old and so few by now. At least there should be public voting, if they ever consider to change it. I love Netta, but that digital orchestration sounds pretty horrible. She has played accordion on a metal bands like Turisas and Ensiferum, and has been on stage with Nightwish and Children Of Bodom for example. She won digital accordion world champion contest few years ago, and was only a teenager (15 or 16) when she won other accordion contest by playing Nightwish Dead To The World. Finlandia should be our national anthem 🇫🇮 and conductor Leopold Stokowski reportedly proposed the melody as the national anthem of the whole world. 🌍 Fun fact: The bass guitarist of the power metal band Stratovarius is the granddaughter's son of Jean Sibelius. Yes, she is doing the whole symphony orchestra here. You should check out the whole work by a real orchestra and choir. Sibelius didn't not give permission to take this as the nation Anthems of Finland. The Anthems we use today was written by a German. The lyrics to Finlandia hymn was written later on to the composition. Many people don't know that this is Sibelius Finlandia.
