Hope this helps someone. Searched gaming laptops like crazy for 4 months before I bought a new one 1 month ago (upgraded from MSI 63thin 1660Ti) to Lenovo Legion slim 5 with 4070 and a Ryzen 7840HS. Screen 2560x1600, (QHD). Reviews said some bad stuff and some good stuff about the CPU and GPU but man let me tell you it runs smooth as butter on every game. Thermal has not been a problem at all. What I want to tell people with this comment is just do the amount of research you want but after a while just go for it. Because someone will still say the comp is bad either way.

Was this a Gen 8? I haven't seen the Legion Slim 5 with 4070. I'm leaning towards the 7840HS+4060 Gen 8. Gen 9 is starting to be available, but pricing is a bit more for the 8845HS+4070 than I'm looking to spend. (My Nitro 7 suffered hinge failure recently, so looking to move up from 10750+1660ti - though I will miss the triple m.2 configuration) 5 months ago I was waiting for the Acer PH16 i7/4070 to drop back to good sale pricing... now I'm hinge-salty.

I purchased a HP Omen 15 with an integrated 10 key layout in early 2021. It was my first ever gaming laptop running a 1660 ti. While I hardly ever game on it, as I utilize my desktop computer for that, the HP Omen means a lot to me emotionally as it's my backup just in case I'm unemployed and my desktop computer crashes. Something I've experienced in the past. So, my gaming laptop means more to me than just playing games.

Hi Jarrod'sTech, I want to emphasize my thankfulness for your KZbin channel and your through reviews on gaming laptops. I'm looking for a new laptop to replace my problematic Dell Alienware laptop and your YT videos really help me in honing in on deals and what to look out for. After dealing with Dell, I would emphasize to new buyers that reading reviews on the manufacturer and on the product itself is extremely important. Buying an Alienware x15 R2 has been nothing but motherboard issues and my warranty all of sudden was 'not found'. This is my 5th time in 3 months I've had this issue. Also, my previous laptop, I would emphasize more on cooling tech and staying away from plastic chassis'; because omg I promise you if you don't its like your touching a grill while playing games or other GPU-intensive work. Also for battery consumption for work, watching videos, etc. I recommend going into the Windows settings for common apps such as Chrome, Edge, Media Player - switch it to use the Integrated GPU instead of the Dedicated GPU for maximum power-saving. It's literally night and day.

I know you discussed it plenty and it turned out to be basically equal to 3070ti, but in Legion 5 pro 2023 review you published, the 1% low was actually much worse than 3070ti. I wonder if with updated drivers the current scenario for 4070 improved vs a few months back. You are the best!
@Maxiow10 ай бұрын
I know this probably isn't the answer but just trying to help I'd say if you don't currently have a 3000 series laptop, 4060 or 4070 are no-brainers, great bang for the buck ( even though the 4060 is better when thinking about cost-benefit ) but even if it costs a lot more the 4080 or 4090 are much better choices ( I'll buy a 4080 one myself next year, the improvement from my current 3060 is around 108%, not taking into account the processor, ram differences and everything else pretty much ).
@andreabeccarisi112610 ай бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate your answer. Currently rocking a 3070 legion 5, I am still pondering if I should get a 4070 laptop (with current BF sales + re-selling the current one, the upgrade would not cost me much) or go for a 4080 (EU prices for these are atrocious)
@fleurdewin795810 ай бұрын
@@andreabeccarisi1126 4070 is just a bad deal for mobile. The thing is, usually it cost almost 300 Euro to step up from 4060 to 4070 but you don't get more VRAM or a significant performance boost. Laptops were initially manufactured with a CPU socket, just like they are now on motherboards. However, they soon started soldering them, understandably, as it generated more profit. After experiencing significant heating issues with older models, users were told that the CPU had failed and that they needed to buy a new laptop. Meanwhile, companies were refurbishing (CPU reballing) and reselling the same laptops. Today, laptops generate less heat and have fewer breakdowns, but the reballing method remains the same. That's why we don't drive cars on hydrogen but on fuel :). Good video!

He forgets to mention about cooling systems : how much cooling fan and cooling pipe in a laptop. You can't get optimum performance when everything is hot as burning.

1) Gpu can't be replaced, so choosing a good GPU is important 2) Cpu or processor which is the brain of the laptop is also important as some games requires more cpu than Gpu 3) Ram and ssd is also important -> 1 TB ( For ram we can upgrade, but cpu and GPU we can't upgrade so choose wisely) 4) Size of lap (14,15,16) easily portable, 17 & 18 tough 5) Screen i) Brightness (300-500 nits) ii) high refresh rate -> 144hz refresh rate Iii) low response rate under 10ms Iv) high color gamut -> 90% of srgb covering v) Resolution - 1080p for small size 1440 for large size V) good resolution 6) Battery - big laps contain big batteries and small laps contain small 7) check what were all the ports are available 8) check detailed reviews

I'm planning to get my first SSD storage laptop, preferably gaming laptop plus one for work. Willing to spend $1,500 on each. Hopefully I'll find ones that weight less than 2kg each.

Jarrod, you reviewed the last year's Asus vivobook pro 16x. Any plans on covering the 2023 model? The specsheet is really impressive.

get 18 inchers. They are just 17 inchers with the screen not wasting the space below.

The new legion 5 oled 14.5 is ok. Except you have to really look at some videos with fine type in display portal. Like blender toutirial. The text is blurry! At HD 1080p! 😮

Build quality if also a very important aspect that these youtube reviews pretty much always omits...like the hinge failure issues that plagued some high-end laptop models in the past few years.... So I suggest going online and do some deep research before spending your money.

Things would be so much easier if the market wasn't so diverse. More specifically on the chips. Got my first and only gaming laptop back around 2018 and it's served me well. Ryzen 7 with an average GPU but the other specs like the screen I don't remember. Even then I rarely have performance issues when gaming nor do I particularly care how good the game looks ie how far I can push it. I might replace in the next year or two, but like I mentioned, its a fiasco for finding the right CPU, GPU and everything else on top.

Hey J - I gan get a 2023 HP Victus with a Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU, RTX 4060 GPU and 16gb RAM. However, I cant find any reviews of the Victus with these specs, most have RTX 30 series or RTX 4050 with slower CPUs. Would you consider this a good buy for entry level to mid range gaming laptop?
