In most states, it has to be a secondary offense. They don't stop you for just that. On the other side, look up the horrific injuries caused by wearing it wrong.

In Missouri you can’t be pulled over for a seatbelt, but can be given a ticket as a secondary. This is correct! Check your state laws!

If someone hit you from behind, the seat belt worn across the shoulder keeps you from hitting the steering wheel and protects you from busting your nose and going into the windshield. I know from experience.

If I remember correctly, vehicles manufactured prior to 1961 are not required to have seatbelts. Most state laws regarding seatbelt use include, "the proper use of". And , misdemeanor violations do not require "intent", in other words, a person does not have to know they are in violation of a law to be cited. Love the Podcast and the stories...

1968 all vehicles had to have seatbelts in all designated seating positions. in 1961 only Nebraska required seatbelts in the front but you were not required to wear them. Then the 70's came along and all sorts of seatbelt laws happened.

In Texas, when you get a ticket the officer always says, “this is not an admission of guilt” but you are agreeing to contact the judge (office) to either pay the fine or contest the ticket.

Jase, what if you got down the road and you were in a head on collision? You don't know.....that police officer just might of saved your life that day or just maybe some day in the furniture. What strikes me is that that very seat belt that you must wear by law to possibly save your life would be the reason for a law enforcement officer to take your life if he or she warrants at the moment the Life Saving Seatbelt comes into question.Thanks and God Bless!

have you ever read the warning on containers that have certain chemicals in them - even household items - "It is a violation of federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling." i guess they should put something like that on a tag on a seat belt ( similar to the mattress tags that say it is against the law to remove them ) - improper use of this seat belt could result in injury up to and including fatality - or being ticketed by law enforcement -

The officer, in fact, was "just doing his job" and trying to keep you safe. You keep saying, "You should've said...." Naw, you should just say "Thank you sir, for trying to keep me safe! Thank you for your service." Give these guys a break, Jase. They are out doing a very hard job in this day. Why do you feel that you are above the law? Educate yourself crashes where people are improperly wearing their seat belt. Restraints do not work if worn improperly. In fact, if you were in a high enough impact crash, you could be severed in half, only wearing the lap belt. Then, guess what.. that young man would get to come and work that crash, exposing himself to a pretty gruesome sight that he then would have to live with for the rest of his life. And you're going to be "angry" about this man doing his job, telling you to put the shoulder/ chest restraint on properly. Yeah, that's taking responsibility for your actions. Wear your seat belt the way it is intended to be worn! End of rant

You are being so humble Jase. Sounds like this officer was quite young. I have to share, my at the time teenage son and his passenger survived a roll over (F150 that hydroplaned in a downpour) because they were not wearing seatbelts and pinned down to their seats. Where I live, you cant be pulled over for that scenario alone, as it should be everywhere. Some states don’t even have a seatbelt law. Perhaps someone in LA needs to have their representative submit a bill to abolish the law.

It’s been a law in Arkansas as for long as I can remember I got one at the scale house in West Memphis 20 years ago I had the lap belt fastened and the shoulder strap hanging off my shoulder

My attorney said in those cases you sign it with your name followed by "under protest." This differentiates you from someone who willingly signed as if in agreement with the officer's opinion. Helps if you take it to traffic court.

Most cops are just jerks! They are no longer here to “serve and protect” they are just revenue cops. Yes, I know several cops personally and that is what I tell them too. I got pulled over for “not having my kid buckled up” and when the officer told me what he pulled me over for, I rolled down the window to my back seat, and said sir that was my dog. I didn’t even have any kids in my car. He was super fired up and wanted to give me a ticket, but had no reason to so he let me go.

I am a CDL over the road truck driver. I have always worn my seat belt the same way. I was told in CDL school, and in training at my company that was incorrect, and I would receive a ticket. My first year of driving I did in Arizona. The seat belts in almost all semi trucks that I have ever seen are all orange, and they stand out in view. I'm assuming that it is so the officers can see it clearly. I wear nothing but black t-shirts. The state trooper they got me was a young male. I believe that they are all trying to make a name for themselves. There was no argument the state trooper could plainly see that I had the seat belt tucked under my armpit. He already knew before he pulled me over and he gave me a ticket for improper use of seatbelt.

this story reminds me of about 35 years ago - i bought a bible from a store - but a couple days later - i decided i needed the money - more than i needed the new bible - so i went back and tried to get a refund - - the owner of the store said that their policy is no refunds - well - i pleaded with biblical contexts referring to the woman to whom Jesus said that it is not proper to give that which is holy to dogs . Matthew 15:26-27 (KJV): 26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. 27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. - he gave me the refund - $ 35 was a lot of money back then

God is like the officer. There are sins of commission and sins of omission. Each exact a punishment. It's part of God's loving Law of Attraction. It helps you by feeling and releasing the emotion it evokes, and you get closer to God. You're looking at the lower human laws which God's Divine Laws override. There's no getting around the higher laws.

If someone went duck hunting with you guys and was waving their loaded gun around all "willie-nillie" y'all would take the gun or go off on the person and surely ban them from ever hunting with y'all again... but what if that person didn't know that was unsafe, should they be allowed to continue without any consequence? Improper usage of the seat belt can cause harm to you. (Also, most vehicles have a diagram on your visor showing how to properly wear the seatbelt... just saying.) He probably didn't just give you a warning because you started running your mouth... Humility goes a long way 😉. Yeah, I'm sure you were ticked off, but making a statement like "I'm about to go on a podcast and tell millions of people about this..." and then actually doing it, not sure that was the best statement. I'm glad you didn't mention the officers name, at least. I've been there, and it sucks- but y'all made it sound like the officer was in the wrong... Sorry, love you guys, but I can't let this go without saying something. The officer was looking out for your safety... doing what he supposed to do... you did wrong... you get the consequences of the wrong doing.
