And 1 Corinthians 14:2 has an example for that. A French person speaking in Chinese to a congregation of British people. He is speaking in Chinese to God because no one in the congregation can understand but God alone. Therefore he is to remain quiet unless there is an interpreter.

@@lowlightevangelist9431This is against what Scripture teaches AND shows. Read Acts 2. THIS is the example of the REAL gift of Tongues. Spiritual gifts are given to THE CHURCH for edification and the advancement of the Gospel, not for an individual’s glory or comfort. ACTS 2:1-8 1 ¶ And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 ¶ And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? And there MUST always be an interpreter or it’s all prideful. 1 CORINTHIANS 14:27-28 27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

So glad to hear you say this. We are one body with many parts, but we are one body, and Christ is the head. I was an atheist and many other things. And I speak in tongues, but it is not because of that or other things that I have salvation. My salvation comes the same as yours-by grace and through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. And I could say I speak in tongues every day and even prophecy as often, yet I would have no salvation if I did not believe in Christ and walk in His name accordingly. You’re right-it’s all about Jesus. (I will say this: speaking in tongues is a greater blessing than people know, but some people do and some don’t. We are blessed with a variety of giftings, and i take joy in seeing those of others at work in the kingdom.) God bless all who follow Christ.

Our prayer language is when we turn lose our control and allow the Spirit of God to pray through us. It’s a deeper more powerful prayer that God is intending for our good. “We know not what we aught to pray!” It’s not intended for others to know except in rare circumstances God has a message for the Church. In that case someone can interpret what the Spirit of God is saying to their heart. If there is no interpretation the people need to pray in the language everyone understands so it can edifying the people. It’s not some big mystery. It’s meant for our individual prayer life. The biggest part of this language is to then listen. Listen to understand and gain Godly wisdom. Listen and OBEY. Obedience is the key with our walk with our Lord Jesus❤️😊

@@zackkoble yes!! I also grew up in a small church where spiritual gifting an and tongues were not denied. I heard words given, and messages in tongues, and interpretations, and I often felt the presence of God in those early years. Yet somehow I became an atheist. I made bad choices. I hid my sins, and for shame compounded them. I did what now seems to me as some of the most stupid things I could have ever done. Fear, panic, shame, guilt, impenitence, these things were with me everywhere I went. And it would take a book to tell how I became an atheist. But four years ago, when I wasn’t even looking for God-I didn’t believe He existed-something happened to me. He spoke into me, an atheist, and it’s like He broke my atheism and something melted within me, and all the years flowed from my eyes in great tears that just poured and poured and poured. In the years I was separated from God I had had the one I loved then with all my heart, whom I had married, do to me in infidelity what I had done to God long ago and it broke my heart in ways I did not know were possible. But more than that, in the same year she killed what would have been my only son or daughter, and I could do nothing to stop it. I had cast votes for pro-choice candidates and it had come back on me most horribly. I became an alcoholic, and used most substances I could get my hands on. I tried to kill myself for twenty years, came as close an inch from death on multiple occasions, was almost killed by others and by nature several times. Every time something stopped me. But when God came to me, things of God came back to my mind. I’m a language teacher, just an average one. But I see linguistics from an academic perspective, and tongues did not make sense to me before. But it is like He is speaking from a temple He has claimed. And when I began to speak in tongues more, what was already wonderful in finally knowing Him again became ever better. I wish all Christians knew how much of a blessing it is to have. Sorry if I went on too long. I did not expect to include all this, but I wanted to say to you, “Yes, brother! Yes, I hear you!”

Speaking in tongues in the Bible refers to the ability to interpret different languages… not make up some random gibberish that no one else can understand and expect people to think it’s God talking through you. Every time I have seen this done it’s been done by someone attempting to bring glory to themselves and act as if they’re more connected to God than everyone else. It is not biblical and it is not of the spirit. Focus on serving Christ and let the rest fall away.

More specifically, its the Holy Spirit literally translating the understanding for everyone. It has less to do with the speaker and more to do with the listener. It enables communication across language barriers. Beautiful. Why are they chanting like demons and writhing on the ground? If you dont understand the tongue, its an issue. If the Holy Spirit is speaking, why cant everyone understand it? If its just a reference to a foreign language like in Corinthians 14, what are we even talking about?

@@fenixchief7 Amen! The way I understand it, and I could totally be wrong, is it was a way for the gospel to be spread throughout nations with unknown languages. Through the Holy Spirit, a man might be able to speak and understand a previously unknown (to him) language and spread the gospel. Which is why in Corinthians 14:2-3 it says “If there is no interpreter, the speaker should remain silent in church and speak to God and themselves.” Because without an interpreter you cannot verify that that man is actually speaking in another language thus rendering the gift useless. Imagine if a white man goes into China 2,000 years ago and starts speaking the gospel in their native language and it is confirmed by a translator. With no technology nor ability to learn Chinese they would be taken back by the miracle they have just heard with their own ears, thus drawing them closer to God. Thoughts on this interpretation? Genuinely trying to further my understanding on this.

100%. Tongues is a gift of language to ADVANCE THE GOSPEL. It’s not gobbledegook. The Holy Spirit gives AS HE SEES FIT for the whole body, not to individuals. Some have the gift of prophesy. Some get the gift of wisdom, knowledge, faith, miracles or tongues. We each receive different gifts to aid in our Godly calling. And by the Law of First Mention. TONGUES is a KNOWN LANGUAGE that is foreign to the speaker. We look to Acts to establish this truth. ACTS 2:1-8 KJV 1 ¶ And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. Anyone who says you are unsaved without the gift of Tongues is misguided and SHOULD NOT be teaching. JAMES 3:1 KJV 1 ¶ My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

There is absolutely nothing mysterious about Biblical "tongues" - and there is only *one* type - when referring to something spoken, they are nothing more than real, rational language(s); usually, but not always, unknown to those listening to them, but always known by the speaker(s) - it’s their native language (in some cases, it is a language the speaker has learned). _Nowhere_ in the Bible is modern tongues-speech advocated or evidenced. ‘Tongues’ (read, *‘languages’* ) - the divine gift, is the God/Holy Spirit given ability to effortlessly learn to speak and be understood through real-language barriers. It is not xenoglossy (as many people incorrectly assume), nor is it the self-created non-cognitive non-language utterance of what certain Christian denominations are producing today (modern tongues-speech).

I totally agree with you.."even when it was said to not forbid the Speaking in Tongues" it was being said to the people that lived almost 2000 years ago..in the Apostolic age..during the Acts of the Apostles.. It was a ligit language spoken by those of like tounge.. by a follower of Christ (that naturally did not speak that language)..that was given that gift to speak of Christ & the forgiveness & redemption that He brings to the world..in the other person's native tounge.. but even though it WAS 'New Testament', Tongues were to cease. The people (at least a percentage) that practice glossolalia seem very sincere..so I try not to focus on the issue..because I have tried reasoning with my sister about this & like almost all Charismatic Pentecostals..there IS no reasoning with them it seems..at least not with my sis.. I know I most likely did not explain this very articulately but..I hope you know what I'm trying to say anyways. Bottom line is you're right about what you said. 👍

My friend what you described is normal for God operating in church. But if you intrepret the bible how you want, then I would understand. I have been filled since 9 yrs old, and I didn’t speak in tongues til last year after I asked. It's a beautiful way to communicate to God. There are 3 different tongues in the bible. By the spirit will you know and understand. It's all Jesus. Jesus is the one speaking to the congregation. How you know it's Him is it will be true. Test every spirit, but forbid none from walking in the gifts. This is the kingdom and it has been lost. Order has been lost, but God is restoring it.

This is an example of the false or counterfeit speaking in tongues spoken about in the Bible. When the disciples spoke in tongues, they spoke in a real language. If there were other people standing nearby who could not understand what the disciple was saying, another disciple interpreted the words into their language too. It is as simple as that. They always spoke to the people in their own language. That is how the gospel was spread to the whole world.

I asked the preacher how could that be? Because I understood it was a gift and I pointed out a young adolescent early teens doing it and he didn't answer and shrugged his shoulders. However im like Jase it doesn't bother me but if someone fakes that, isnt it blasphemy? Just curious to any insights on this. God bless 🙏

It doesn't say don't forbid it. But it DOES say to test the spirit, and that if there has to be a translator. It can't just be one person. It can't be one person, and the translator has to understand the speaker perfectly, otherwise demonic spirits are at play. And it IS important to judge that, to HELP your brother. You aren't judging the person, but testing which spirit is flowing through the person. And Jesus does call you to test spirits.

Tongues was explained to me like this..... Spoken allowed to the congregation there must be an interpretation or it is fake. If someone is directly praying for themselves or over a specific person, then it wont be interpreted because it is a private prayer and the holy spirit is speaking through that person directly to God. It doesnt bother me if ppl speak in Tongues. I do attend a church now that have several members that do and so far ive only heard women do it. To me it all sounds the same coming from these women. I dont like it when ppl act like it is a gift from the holy spirit and if you dont do it then you are not filled with the spirit. That is just B.S. I love the way Jase handles this. God bless everyone and have a great day.!!!

@ninamarise237 maybe you should re-read my post and apologize, or does it need translation too. God doesn't need translators if He wants you to get His message, God's Word explains how speaking in tongues works so maybe you need to stop making your own god and get closer to the only God. If you want to witness speaking in tongues, you'll need to go where there are lots of language barriers amongst the people and then watch God work His will into them, like I said, not some gibberish to make a mockery of God.

@@outlaw.prather PART 1 - Assuming you’re referring to the Pentecost narrative, Peter and Cornelius and Paul in Ephesus…let’s look at these with respect to ‘tongues’ as being the evidence of baptism in the Holy Spirit….black and white, but you need to understand what you’re reading and put it into historical, cultural and linguistic context. At Pentecost, the apostles weren’t speaking any language they didn’t already know. The spiritual gift given at Pentecost was not that of languages (though a language miracle did occur), but rather prophesy. This would take a few pages to explain properly; so, for the sake of brevity, I’m considerably simplifying and ‘bottom lining’ the below. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit did not give the _language_ (i.e., the means/content) of the apostles’ speech, it gave the _manner_ in which it was spoken. The Holy Spirit gave the 12 apostles what in the Greek text is “apophtheggesthai”. This word is from “apophtheggomai” which is best translated as “to give bold, authoritative, inspired speech to”. Don’t go to Strong’s and look it up though - “Strong’s” is a _concordance_ , not a lexicon; there’s a _huge_ difference. Without going into what could be considerable detail, when looking at the “language wherein the attendees were born” there are only two: Aramaic and Greek. The Jews present at Pentecost came from three areas: Judea, the Western Diaspora and the Eastern Diaspora. “All nations under heaven” is an idiomatic expression - Acts II: 9-11 tells us where those visiting were from. The “list of nations”, as it’s called, of Acts 2: 9-11 is simply that - a list of countries, lands and nations that tell us where these people were from; *not* what language(s) they spoke, as most people assume. Further, the idea that the “tongues” of Acts II was xenoglossy also stems from this false assumption. In the entire narrative not *one* language is ever referenced by name - ever wonder why? The miracle of language at Pentecost was making the God of the Jews accessible to all people and moreover, not having to do so in one prescribed language: namely, Hebrew, the sacerdotal language of Judaism. The crowd was expecting to hear Hebrew first followed by translations into Aramaic and Greek as was the tradition and practice of the day; what they got were Aramaic and Greek without Hebrew first. Doing this broke a slew of cultural and religious taboos and was virtually tantamount to heresy which accounts for the crowd’s reaction. The actual gift being emphasized is the fact that the Holy Spirit has empowered the disciples to _prophesy_ and to boldly proclaim the Word of the Lord, and this is exactly what we find in verse 14. Peter “lifted up his voice and _addressed_ them”, but perhaps a better translation would be that he lifted up his voice and _prophesied._ We tend to think of prophecy as a kind of foretelling of future events, but in the Hebrew use, it was more often associated with _speaking forth_ the Word of the Lord. I would argue that, if looking for a gift of the Holy Spirit to assign to Pentecost, it would be more the gift of Prophesy than of Languages. With regards to the concept of “initial evidence of tongues”, according to the Pentecost narrative, there were around 3,000 people who were baptized that day. If these 3,000 were 'baptized in the Spirit', I would think that at the very least, according to some Pentecostal/Charismatic beliefs, they should have starting “speaking in tongues”. Yet *nothing* of the sort is recorded. Certainly 3,000+ people “speaking in tongues" would at least merit a sentence or two in the narrative, wouldn’t it? If one argues they were not baptized in the spirit, but only in water, not only would the apostles have been violating a slew of work prohibitions on a high holy day (and would not likely have been allowed to do such a thing), considering one of the main focuses of the day was about being baptized in/receiving the Holy Spirit, that would be a rather anti-climactic ending to the narrative, wouldn’t it? No xenoglossy, no modern tongues-speech, just real, rational language(s). There *was* a language miracle at Pentecost provided by the Holy Spirit, no argument there; just not the one most people assume. And of course, again, when the apostles received the Holy Spirit, the only tongues (read ‘languages’) spoken were their own. In short, the gift of languages was not evidenced on Pentecost - it didn’t need to be. There *was* a language miracle at Pentecost provided by the Holy Spirit, no argument there; just not the one most people assume.
