Hey bud awesome job ....was going to ask you what you use to check tide, weather, swells ect...
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing4 жыл бұрын
Cheers AL I use a mixture of metservice, swell map, weather watch and marine weather - met service normally only good a day or 2 out and sometimes recheck that morning as it's one that seems to constantly change - I like swell map more for tides and swell then actual map forecast the other 2... @Reel-Kiwi-Fishing4 жыл бұрын
Nice one Jc - they do seem to work pretty well those little floats :-) I'm just in the middle of maybe putting some merch together to sell in support of my channel so sit tight and will see how I go - seems quite pricey but hopefully find somewhere that can do a good deal for us to make it cost worthy for you guys... Hey bro love you're vidz me and the mrs enjoy them..am new to 4x4 driving,we want to head out to muriwai for a fish.was just wondering do you drop your tyre pressure's before heading onto the sand?
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing3 жыл бұрын
Cheers AM for the support Personally I've never lowed my air in the tyres and never had any issues but I always cross over the sand in 4H - and try to always drive that half tide so I'm on the harder sand pretty much always. Tight lines

DKM in waiuku have them , was looking at one when i went to pick up the okuma mad dog 2 weeks ago , they asked me if i wanted to get the Kotara instead , i said maybe next time had my mind set on the dawg , but like Jason said they are alot lighter and thinner , also for the price ya think they would have the grips on them like the older nano . the mad dog has em just looks better imo

Another awesome video Jason cheers for the content, just wondering what’s your thoughts on getting a second hand kontiki? Tight lines
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing4 жыл бұрын
Cheers BA The one we have is second hand and really have had no issues, it is hard buying a 2nd as it is a lot of money - you just hope the person selling is truthful about the rig. Normally being such a big unit you will pick it up or get it dropped off to you - I would push to take it out for a couple of sets with the owner before buying. If he's a good sort there shouldn't be an issue. Just remember there's plenty there so if you are a little worried on one and the owner not keen then you could just move on to the next. Tight lines

Another good video, cheers. Do you find that it is easier to use circle hooks with break aways, to save breaking the sinker out and maybe missing a strike. Just wondering, I'm about to get back in to surf casting after along time away from it and just remember if you miss a strike it can sometimes require you to reel in and re set. Cheers again
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing4 жыл бұрын
Hi TWK I normally use J's as I like striking on a fish - if we are in big fish country sometimes I will swap over to a circle - big fish pick it up and go so then slowly loading up on the rod works well. When I strike on a fish and my breakaway gives way I still let it sit there for as long as I can until it has come to close in then I wind in and reset, a lot of times I have caught fish while it's on the move and most times you need to rebait up anyways if the smaller fish have rattled away at the bait. I very rarely strike on bites unless there is a slight pull on the line - I wait until the bait is actually grabbed. Most times those small bites are small fish but sometimes it can be big fish being a little fussy or tentative on the bite but you norm get to learn these traits as you get those light pulls where it's actually been picked up . how are you going to get your kontiki back,to expensive to lose
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing4 жыл бұрын
Hi dk This is the 3rd time we have lost it - the first I was able to fluke it by casting a heavy jig. That was a fun night being midnight and going home the next day. Second we had a car run over the winch and snap the line - we had 2 surfie guys swim the k out to it and hook it up for us on the rest of the line that was still on the winch - this one we have just had someone contact us he has found it - we are waiting for him to drop it to see what state its in before doing an insurance claim... What sort of 4x4 recovery equipment do you take with you on Muriwai?
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing4 жыл бұрын
We just have the basics like a heavy strop, spade and heavy duty jack - been on Muriwai for good 40yrs and never needed any of them (touch wood) this is why I try to stick to the half tide driving rule so not to have any problems. Tight lines
