For me Urdu is the finest language on this planet. My father was a scholar of Urdu and knew Farsi as well, with good knowledge of English and French literatures. But he adored Urdu above all, as I do. There is no parallel in any language to its 'nazaakat' and 'rawaanagi', Ghalib goes way beyond the ultimate heights of verbal expression with Urdu. Limitations of language just didn't exist for him. There can never be any poetry beyond his! Genius is an inadequate word to describe him. "huā jab ġham se yuuñ be-his to ġham kyā sar ke kaTne kā, na hotā gar judā tan se to zaanū par dharā hotā"

Urdu lexicon has a multi layer of meanings, shades , colours , hue and expressions, which are unrivaled and cannot be adequately translated in any other language as other languages simply do not have that the depth or the multi layers in expression ; its word play a gentle rhythm which remain unmatched ! I can say this with some confidence despite Urdu not being my mother tongue. Compare Shakespeare, Chaucer , Browning , and Byron , with even a mediocre Urdu poet, and they don't have the same power or finesse.

Kya baat kahi hai.. quite literally I am a theoretical physics buff and I feel this so dearly, there is no need to try to conquer the universe, and even if we do it could be done by love, but hum insaan hain na.. hamein to jo milta hai wo achcha nahi lagta jo nahi milta wo chamakta hua dikhta hai.. shayad earth kahatam ho jaye... ya hum inssaan khatam ho jayein.. lekin jab tak hain, saaf suthra kyu nahi jee sakte? chinna aur bada baanna kyu hain.. bada banna samajh me aata bhi hai fir bhi kisi ko daba ke agar bada banne ki justju na ho to bada to har koi banega fir earth pe kaun kitne din jiya, fark hi nahi padega.. aisa kyu nahi ho sakta? dont wanna really spread my wings to find livebility on Mars.. or on any planet JWST is looking for. just at end to all this is good.. why do w want to create more evil by living more?

The poetry of Ghalib is multi dimensional. One can infer multiple meanings what suits him or her. Like Jawed Akhtar being atheist took an inference of atheism from his sher “humko maloom hae jannat ki haqiqat etc “ but Ghalib also said “ na thā kuchh to ḳhudā thā kuchh na hotā to ḳhudā hotā Duboyā mujh ko hone ne na hotā maiñ to kyā hotā “ which is clear indication that Ghalib was a believer . His shaer of jannat ki haqiqat…..is different and symbolic rather than claiming that there is no jannat or God.

@@brijeshbhatt7166 bro i think u r talking about his shayari. So ghalib has only 1 and its his Diwan. Diwan-e-Ghalib. Jisme unke kareeb 1900 sher hain. Ab diwan e ghalib to ek hi hai lekin uski interpretation or translation boht sare urdu scholars ne ki hai.

Javed Akhtar has a garguntan memory!!! A true scholar.....the way he speaks is like how a great professor explains...☺️ And with a great sense of simplicity and humour....😄 We are fortunate that we are able to witness his work and listen to him on platforms like this...thank you Rekhta!!!
