Maddy is actually a remarkably good interviewer. Even seasoned professionals who have been on TV for years fall into the trap of talking about their own experiences as they try to connect with their interviewees. However, Maddy makes it all about the guests. Even when Jasmine said those things about Maddy basically being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, Maddy moved on without feeling the need to make it a whole topic. I am sure she could have said many things about it but chose not to. She just seems to be like somebody who is genuinely interested in other people's stories rather than trying to find opportunities to slide in her own, as many interviewers tend to do.

@@thanosgallagher4433 I actually enjoy Hi Jinkx for that particular reason! first and foremost I'm a fan of jinkx and not necessarily always a fan of her guests but I like that even when she "interviews" someone else, it's always a dialogue and you always end up knowing jinkx a bit better after an episode than before. of course this is entirely subjective and up to personal preferences and you're of course valid in not liking the podcast but I also feel like the point of the podcast isn't even to be an interview with/a study of her guests but rather a conversation with them and as conversations go they profit immensely from input of both (or all) participants :)

Maddy creates a sense of safety in the interview for the guest to talk as openly and honestly as they want to. But it is a false sense of security because she will read them in ways that are vicious. Not vicious enough to ruin the mood, but rather to make them laugh hard.

@debbieparnell7582
@debbieparnell7582 Жыл бұрын
Whether this is just a well intentioned backhanded compliment or it's meant as meanly as I read it... This kind of comment upsets me as someone with ADHD (and autism) because it's incredibly insensitive of people with any communication differences that come with hidden disabilities. Jasmine mentioned having ADHD in a post - which I specifically looked for because I could immediately tell (from the interrupting, louder voice, and genuine sensitivity to the feedback etc) and I just wanted to know if she knew she had it... but even if she didn't this kind of comment subtly shames people who do. ADHD - includes an overactive mind, struggles with impulse control and working memory (not to mention me being autistic too I have extra unintentional interruptions from waiting for when I think the turn to speak is available but someone who can read and convey body language nabs it first) so interrupting others is never from not caring but having those challenges - and not even being aware you are doing it 'till 1 or more people turn on you. It's like calling it character growth is someone becomes able to walk without crutches - when they might look steady but it's very difficult for them. Needing a crutch is morally neutral, and so is unintentionally interrupting people because you have a hidden disability that impacts how you communicate. Growth is refraining from making insensitive comments towards people who don't communicate as you expect them to - when you don't know any of their circumstances. I don't see 'growth' from Jasmine - I see someone targeted for their disability, made to feel guilty for issues they can't easily control and refraining from being more fully themselves. This isn't someone learning to care about other people and be less self involved this is someone masking their ADHD differences to not come across as uncaring. It's not character growth to manage your ADHD in a way that makes others like them more, and Jasmine shouldn't have to educate people on how her ADHD impacts her for basic respect. Plus there's no amount of explaining she could do to make people understand. I find it sad when Jasmine downplays her ADHD because 'it's not an excuse' - yeah it's not a free pass for interrupting as much as you like once you know of it but it's a thoroughly valid explanation and should fully 'excuse' her from moral judgements and the expectation of communicative perfection. It's very harmful to see this as growth because then it sets the unfair expectation that people with ADHD just mask their issues to the point they feel silenced because the people around them have no tolerance whatsoever for a literal disability. Not the only season where everyone turns on the person with ADHD for no good reason - think literally moving someone from their seat and shaming them in a group for acting in a way that's consistent with ADHD - (fans getting racist is not tackling the ableism), or all ganging up on a UK contestant for being upset (rejection sensitive dysphoria) and politely communicating a needing for space to regulate their mood but being pushed further and not respected. The problem and the thing that needed growth was the fans and other drag queens' casual ableism.

I feel like their untucked argument happened because when Maddy said "I'm just gonna do my own thing, I'm not going to worry about her" Jasmine heard that as "I don't NEED to worry about her." So I think Jasmine's dismissive comment(s) started because she felt dismissed first, which is totally not what Maddy meant. I think Maddy knew she probably should worry about lip syncing against a dancer like Jasmine, but Maddy just meant she was trying to keep a level head by just focusing on herself and her strengths.

On the reunion ep, that is basically what Maddy said. She clarifies that she knew she was probably going to lose and was trying to psyche herself up and felt dismissed by Jasmine at the time. Jasmine also said that maybe they both miscommunicated there and neither meant to dismiss the other.

She used incessantly correctly finally at the end so all is well. 😉👌😭 Another fun insightful interview, thank you! 💗✨

I was really pleased to hear Jasmine put straight out into the interwebs, that Maddy. Is indeed 100% apart of the queer community. It always bothered me early on in our introduction to her that people tried to shun (him) from under that umbrella..ella...ella..aye...aye I digress. Maddy is absolutely a member of the lgbtgia+ community! You think any of those crazy right-wing conservatives would care if he identifies as straight or gay or trans? No. Maddy would be treated just like everybody else in the community. What a great interview! These just hit home runs every episode!❤🦋
