Something you didn’t mention about little mix was after they toured their second album they made a new album that was set to come out at the end of 2014 but their label told them to scrap the entire album bc it wasn’t good enough. When Zayn left One Direction they wrote his exit statement about wanting to be " a normal 22 year old" Zayn said he never signed off on the statement and didn't see until it was already posted. as a little mix fan, I'd like to clarify that Little Mix had to scrap their original 2nd album because syco didn't approve so then "salute" was born. same thing happened with "get weird": by that time, they were missing deadlines and they'd be dropped out of the label if they didn't have a solid single and an album concept as well, that's why there was a long off-period for little mix in 2014- 2015. again, they scrapped the 3rd original album before "Get Weird" was announced. Thank you so much for this video Jasmine, and also for including Fifth Harmony in it. I'm a Directioner and a Harmonizer, and while people are ready to talk about One Direction's mistreatment, I often see people conveniently forget that Fifth Harmony was mistreated so badly. All the girls have spoken out a lot about it (there are endless clips of Lauren telling people to "read their contracts" and she talks a lot, especially now, about how she feels like a bird that's been let out of a cage). I've found that people criticize and make fun of One Direction and Fifth Harmony for not writing all of their songs (especially Fifth Harmony who only really have writing credits on their last album) but don't understand that they never really had a choice. Also, you were definitely right about how much all these artists were mistreated, especially when it came to new music and tours- Fifth Harmony's 3rd album was released only 2 and a half years after the release of Reflection, and when asked about what keeps them going, Lauren literally said "our contract". One last thing, Camila's name is pronounced Cam-EE-la, not Cam-ILL-a, just so you know. Thanks for the video!!!

@@pennybleta2300 Blackpink's members became trainees when they were 10-12 years old, and I believe they got signed as artists back in 2016. At that time, YG was known as one of the biggest companies in South Korea (quite literally, the big 3). Much of the mistreatment their artists suffered (especially 2NE1) hadn't come to light yet, and although the big 3 were and are known for overworking, mistreating, and controlling their artists, it is generally thought to be a better career move than to sign with a small company that might do the same, but not bring any payoff. YG was also marketed as a less manufactured company at the time. The turning point for YG's image was the Burning Sun "scandal" (crime), and by then Blackpink, Ikon, and Winner were already signed. Their contracts last about 7 years, and since YG has a problem with being blacklisted by broadcasting agencies anyway, and Blackpink is currently their only breadwinner, it's very probable YG will sink hard if they don't sign with them after that. Point being, all companies Korean or otherwise, will screw you over no matter what their public image is.

i remember back in 2016, 5H released their album 7/27 on May 27 and not even a month after they started the 7/27 Tour in South America. i went to the 2nd date of the tour and the entire show was the same as the Reflection Tour (their previous tour), with only 6 songs from the new album, and 3 of them were added that same night because on the first date they only performed 3 SONGS FROM THE NEW ALBUM and all the fans were complaining on social media. They literally had to start a new tour with barely any rehearsals (cause after the album came out, they were obviously doing a lot of promo) and had to unexpectedly add 3 songs that they had never performed live and rehearse them on the same day of the show, because their team couldnt give them enough time to prepare a new show. Once that leg of the tour was over, they ended up creating a whole new show with the new album and started doing that one in the next leg of the tour. The entire situation was a whole mess and even tho i don't have any proof, there's no way it was their fault and not their teams fault cause they were constantly working non stop. (also, sorry for my english, its not my first language:))

PRETTYMUCH, another boy band creation of Simon’s announced earlier this year that they are no longer under his label. They never specified why but after viewing this video, I know the answer. In the five years they’ve been a band, they’ve released 3 EP’s and were the opening act for Khalid back in 2018 but no one would know this because Syco failed in promoting them. They were in the same boat as LM in not having creative control. Members would delete tweets voicing their frustrations on being prohibited in releasing music and if we did get a single, it was generic pop that everyone was supposed to enjoy. Yet, like I said, Syco did a horrible job in getting these guys recognized by music lovers. With their new label called Sire, they have their first album (according to Apple Music), are able to showcase their other talents, and do more popular interviews compared to the ones they did before.

And were huge overseas (with 20 million in album sales). But they were over worked. The youngest had a mental breakdown which is what ended the group. And they were considered the bad boys of boy bands. Simon encouraged the bad boy behavior which was the other issue with the group. If someone could explain to me that'd be amazing! Great video by the way Jasmine, thank you :)
@Starburst5142 жыл бұрын
I'm not a directioner, or a Louis fan, idk his personality or heard any of his music; but the first explanation I come up with like with an abusive relationship, even when the victim knows it's bad and not right, they still stay. There's a feeling of "I can't survive/have no where else to go from here" Again IDK anything about Louis or his singing or his place in 1D, but maybe he thought that he couldn't get signed anywhere else? Like he wasn't good enough on his own (or on his own "yet") and believed he was in a "take what I can get" situation. I mean it's hard to get signed and maybe he thought on his own he wasn't enough of a singer like the others to get signed somewhere else so stayed with Syco

Simon said Louis was drunk but he wasnt, he had some drinks but wasnt drunk. I mean really flew an 19 old in a plane ALONE and then put him sign a contract? You can even see his personality changed. I've been saying this about Syco for years; even before One Direction became big in fact. I am a huge fan of Joe McElderry, who won X Factor in 2009. I cannot even begin to describe the mistreatment he got from them. For a start, they tried to market him as something he wasn't. On the X Factor he was known for being a ballad singer, he won because of his incredible voice complimenting slower songs (he can do up tempo too but his asset was the ballads imo). He then came out as gay in July 2010, and his debut album immediately became more up tempo disco tracks. Also his debut song that wasn't the winners song was... a cover. A lot of the songs on his debut album were covers actually. Also a point, the runner up that year, Olly Murs, released his debut single BEFORE Joe did, and it wasn't a cover. Guess who Olly was mentored by on the show? Yup, it was Simon. Basically Syco put more effort into promoting Olly then they did Joe, the actual winner. Why? I suspect homophobia was at play here. I don't have any actual evidence for this but the timing of everything leaves a big question mark. Anyways Joe got dropped by Syco in 2011 but was immediately snapped up by Decca Records. He hasn't made it big because his albums are mostly covers (to my frustration), but his tours still sell well and he is generally well liked. He hasn't said anything about being mistreated, probably cause he is wrapped up in contracts as he won the entire show, but it's so obvious really. I've always felt sorry for 1D and Little Mix because I knew what Syco was really like.

The amount of stupid shit that 5H went thru is nuts. Like the work schedule was nut, like some of the girls had health issues including C getting hospitalized at least 2. In fact one of the Awesomeness TV BTS series in which the girls had to rehearse for a performance without Camila. For those who don't know early in 5H's career Awesomeness TV followed them around and filmed BTS videos of them and their everyday life on tour, promoing, even their occasional visits home. Almost all of them have had grandparents pass while they were touring, since they toured pretty much all year long from the start of their career as a group till hiatus. Also they have had to chose work over family. When Lauren grandmother passed I think her mom's mom, she went to the funeral but had to give up a singing part on, "Worth It". Cause for years people had noticed Lauren didn't have singing parts in the video, that's because she didn't sing on that song. I think Normani stated in an article that every time a song was recorded all members had to be present for the whole session. Each member had to sing all the songs presented by themselves, so even if you ended up with a bit part on a song u had to show up or you weren't going to be on the songs recorded at the sessions. So basically for those who are confused what I mean. So all girls had to present, each went in the recording booth by themselves, sang the song and once all of them did that, then it was decided who got to sing what part. So the girls had to spend hours waiting their turn to go in the booth after the other entered and they weren't allowed to go out during that time. Their management was garbage as hell. Most people don't realize but Fifth Harmony's had 2 management during their career. The first one that they were assigned to which then split and formed a second firm, and they went with the second group that was part of the original management group. Then Camila got a manager in 2015, which she is with till this day and that ultimately worked in her favor. Also after she left the group she resigned to Epic/Syco as a solo artist. If you do a deep dive of 5H there are so many video from promo videos, Awesomeness TV, interviews and the like that will break your heart, when you see how happy they were, and how eventually everything took their toll on the group and them as individuals. Normani also talks about how she was vocally inhibited, like she had done music before 5H and during 5h outside of the goup that you can hear how amazing her voice is when given the opportunity. She lost confidence in her vocals and talents cause their management and label didn't want her to out shine anyone, especially C who if you pay attention was being groomed by management and the label to be the breakout start of the group. I'm not trying to start some mess, but if you pay attention to some of the later interviews, especially ones in which fans asked them questions, the majority of the questions that were picked were based on screen names featuring Camila's name in some form or fashion. Seriously check out some of the articles by the girls especially after they went on hiatus. Also read about a 2016 article about Normani, Ally , Lauren, and Dinah getting a well known female entertainment attorney who looked over their contract and said it was one of the worst contracts she had seen in her many years in the industry. Like if the girls had known back then what they know now none would have signed to Epic/Syco. In fact the only person who could have been held to contract when they were first got together, would have been Ally, since she was 18 then 19 in 2012, while the other girls were between 15 to 16 when they first signed up. Oh and if anyone wonders why I didn't mention Camila for that situation, is she was under separate new management by 2015 and she was invited to the meeting 2016 but declined. The meeting ultimately lead to Normani, Lauren, Ally and Dinah gaining the rights to their name and other things that belong to them. This happened way before Camila officially announced she was leaving the group in late 2016.

I am knackered just from you explaining the album tours and promo. Can't even image how they feel.

Omygod Jedward. Did not expect to hear about them ever again. I still sometimes listen to their Eurovision entry "Lipstick" as it's in my Eurovision bops playlist (i mean it is my Irish duty to have them in there), but did not think they would ever be mentioned again.

I absolutely loved this deep dive! I would be very interested in a similar video focusing on Scooter Braun, especially with his most recent pull of buying Taylor’s masters and her departure from big machine records. Not only that, but Artists that have signed with him such as Amber Riley, Todrick Hall, having being mistreated and left. I know Todrick spoke about it on Twitter, not super sure about Amber though. Ariana also split at one point, and then released ‘Jason’s song’ that was clearly about Scooter, only to return to him. Not to mention the apology tour he had her go on for Justin, and let’s not forget that when pre ordering purpose back when it was promoted, there was a stunt Scooter pulled with a possible collab between the two on the track What do you mean, which only really turned out to be a mash up between two songs, with her one last time. Not to mention the artist that have stayed with him and have still received mistreatment, like Tori Kelly for one. Like I said , I would be super interested in a deep dive on scooter. I’m gonna end this comment here before it turns into an entire book, but you did such a fantastic job with this video 🥳🥰

on the excessively amount of work they put them through, there were also the many times Camila Cabello had to go to the hospital because she was so tired and dehydrated. The first time that happened, Lauren had a breakdown because she was having the worst day/week and then had even more work, and had to figure it all out in such a short time span

i’m sooo ready for louis to put out that documentary. he’s got to be exposing at least a little something. there’s no coincidence that shortly after leaving syco he announces his documentary. (also he kinda blew up a year after walls was released with defenseless and all and i can’t imagine his new label/management didn’t have a hand in that)

This video was so interesting! I first thought that 50 minutes are a long time of watching a video about a label, but you did such a good job that it wasn't boring in any way!
