Precisely. Your thoughts are spot on. And jason’s just letting people know that we (in small towns) don’t work the same way they do in big cities. It has nothing to do with race, gender, anything else. It has to do with behavior. Letting people know that it’s not going to fly in certain areas isn’t a threat. It’s a helpful piece of advice. And hopefully more people will see this and realize that it doesn’t have to be dangerous chaos.

Ahmaud Arbery might disagree, as he tried jogging in a small town. Meanwhile, the video itself is filled with dangerous chaos - mixed alongside peaceful, legal protesting. While the band set up right where Henry Choate was lynched in 1927. It's an amazing thing watching all these vids and realizing just how totally clueless so many reactors are. It's kind of scary, frankly, that people can be so easily messed with, have their emotions toyed with and allowing that to be enough for them without any real close view of what actually is happening. We don't need more division, which is exactly how this is going to play out.

Anthem to the phrase "F**k around and find out!" I am glad you were able to react to the original video. The makers of the video (not Jason himself) edited the video and took out any news clip that was in the video because they supposedly did not have permission to use the clips. You are correct - he’s saying that these bigger cities are too worried about politics and looking racist or sexist so they are frozen. They are afraid to take action to make the streets safe to walk again or for businesses to stay open. And small towns don’t work that way. They are not going to put up with all of those behaviors and let their towns be destroyed by vandalism and shoplifting or criminal behavior. People there will protect the place they live in and most will look out for their neighbors too.

I saw the controversy before I heard the song, so went and read the lyrics. You know who would say this is racist? Someone who thinks that the only people who would, "Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk, Carjack an old lady at a red light, or pull a gun on the owner of a liquor store," is of a particular race. So, who's the racist? 🤔
@ed.z.
@ed.z. Жыл бұрын
I don’t think vigilante justice and threats are the answer. I lived in NYC for fifty years and never feared getting shot. Now living in Texas everyone over eighteen can open carry a gun. No training, no permit, no brains, are required. And we hold the record for the number of mass shootings. Threatening people who were predominantly peacefully protesting police brutal killings of innocent people, is disgusting. They are marching for “equal justice under law” regardless of race, politics, hair length, or sexual preference. Peaceful protests are protected behaviour, guaranteed in writing, in the US Constitution. It’s recommended reading for those who can actually read…And understand the written language in our Supreme Law.
@TexasRose50
@TexasRose50 Жыл бұрын
I failed to see anything peaceful in the video. Those were riots, not protests.
@ed.z.
@ed.z. Жыл бұрын
@@TexasRose50 yes. There should be a distinction between the protestors against police killing innocents, during the day, in thousands of cities worldwide, and the video of riots by outside right-wing agitators deliberately causing destruction, in order to cast blame upon the sincere peaceful protests, during the day, advocating for political change. Often the riots are initiated when the police show up and open fire against a crowd. The exact same thing in the 50’s during the Civil Rights movement. And during the 1960’s movement to protest an unwarranted war in Vietnam. I was there during those two decades and witnessed this with my own eyes. Evidently, it’s a common political tactic to distract, confuse, and turn Americans against each other. It’s also a common tactic in Europe. And in Russia, Putin blew up apartment buildings killing many and blamed the death and destruction on “dissenters” (protesters against Putin). History has many more examples of this distortion, and distraction. But if we only watch Fox News we see constant destruction for months of the same fire and destruction (on repeat) in order to stoke fear and hate against a particular political group. Usually, it’s strictly against certain minorities or immigrants. It’s not obvious. And it works great to “conserve” a status quo to maintain an American Oligarchy.

Everyone should just chill out. It's just a song and a music video created to entertain. View it as a mini movie that Jason is narrating via song. Writers made up a story when they wrote the song. Another team pieced together footage over the past 10 years from all over the world. Mixed in some creative video footage of scenes shot in a studio that never happened, the video of the band's performance, and the story was created.

I have watched this music video a few times and I understand why it is offensive. The part that is offensive has absolutely nothing to do with race. The modern conservative is no stranger to a past with hate groups, hive mind mentality, and dangerous cults. All those groups had one thing in common, they all believed they were doing the right thing. The left is going through the same motions, they believe they are truly doing what they feel is right. An outsider looking in it looks like hate groups, the hive mind mentality, and dangerous cults have just returned. Your movement to fight for justice in the city is not a small town problem, don't come to my small town, because you'll be the problem, because we aren't a part of your battle.

Hi Michael. CMT pulled the video, which suggests the video was causing issues. So far though, I haven't seen any reactors actually notice or point out anything in the video. Some of the imagery used comes from 2020 protests against police brutality, particularly for the George Floyd case, including some that featured no violence at all. There's also a lot of footage from Canada, not the US, which to me seems pretty dishonest. Perhaps a politically minded editor snuck that under everyone's nose. The individual crime clips made the case in the song really well; there was no need to tweak protesters from 2020. So, it's obviously supposed to annoy some people. Great way to make fans, Jason... I don't think he needs anyone to advocate for him.

CMT made the same mistake that Bud Light did-alienate their base. Whoever banned the video has zero common sense in that most of their viewing audience comes from smaller farm towns and farm communities. Catering to the woke is a death sentence-yet the yahoos in CMT's corporate offices-probably in NYC are blinded by their sponsors-trouble is if you don't have viewers to see the sponsored products on your channel-sponsors leave. also if sponsors continue to advertise on the network-they too could be boycotted.

At the end of your video, you asked what the fuss is about. Before I answer that let me say that I agree with every word you said in your response. But I can say what I have read upsets people. 1) The capital building that he stands in front of in the video is the same building that in 1927 a young black man was lynched from (hung from a window). There are those that say he used this building to promote lynching. I think that is hogwash but that is what is being said. 2) There are those that say the very phrase "try that in a small town" is promoting even inciting violence. Again, I don't believe that, I think he is stating that folks who stick together will not put up with riots and will defend themselves.

And why no imagery of Charlottesville, or Jan 6 , or George Floyd, or Kyle Rittenhouse ???? Anyway, Suggest reacting to this one, “Faded Gloryville” by Lindi Ortega, it’s much closer to the truth that Aldean ignores…

The visual is the message. The song itself is meh, (but the guitar is nice). Shot in front a courthouse where a black kid was lynched in 1927. I didn’t see any shots from January 6th. (where officers were being beaten) .The visual IS the message, like when Reagan made his Presidential announcement in Philadelphia, Mississippi (look up what happened there if you don’t know.)As a white male, you’re not in danger from the police and small town vigilantes. So, I can see you don’t get it. I don’t want it censored, I like knowing who the enemy is. When your black, you’re never really at peace. I worry for my 21 year old nephew all the time….his mother worries too.

Fantastic comment. Maybe a good counter-argument to Aldean's song would feature a black rapper, showing a colage of video clips of white cops brutalizing and bullying people of color.. and the name of the track could be something like "Try That Shit Downtown". Aldean is a great singer with a limited worldview... pandering to his fan base, many who somehow equate hyper-masculine country songs to patriotism or something? The G.Floyd protests were part of a social movement to bring attention to the fact that a particular American subculture has simply had enough. Meanwhile, all of the conservative calls for violence and civil war are based on nothing more than petty political ideologies. Think about it... protests and rage against oppression of an entire people versus protests and rage over who gets to hold a public office. Without discussing anecdotal instances of individuals taking things too far, the BLM movement was/is a noble cause. Meanwhile, MAGA is nothing more than the final attempt of the white subculture on decline, who has, for generations, enjoyed complete impunity while basically doing whatever they want. The courthouse in the video is a perfect example of this. I applaud your well-worded comment that straddled the wide gulf of ideas present in this forum. All the best!
