This is a compilation of Jason Bowld's drum takes used in the recording of the This Is Menace album "The Scene Is Dead". Jason uses a MAPEX ORION kit, and SABIAN cymbals.

@circleslammer "shallow graves" was the original / provisional title before the album was finished and went to press. It was changed to "pretty girls" later on.

The thing is, I dubbed the album track over. The original videos are just the drumming. Look at the Pretty Girls take and the Return the Favour drum take.

Hi ... this is actually a Pearl kit used before the Mapex Orion arrived. The Pearl Kit was sold on ebay last year, but you can still see the spec over at nufusions dot com. What you're hearing is part live from the camera mic, as well as the finished mastered sound from the record :) Hope that helps.

@circleslammer It's interesting you mention Abe Cunningham, as a couple of years back Jason did a piece for Rhythm magazine on how to get a Deftones style groove and how Abe creates this great space with his playing.

@circleslammer Jason is both a groove drummer and a technician, he has a good way of balancing it out imo. I've seen very technically gifted drummers that lack groove who are boring to watch unless you're an uber drumgeek.

Because they'll be pushed to give a good performance. I think great, creative musicians rub off on each other. Charlie probably got to explore areas of metal he deep down wishes he could do more of in Fightstar. He gets a lot of flack form people, but he seems a nice enough guy.

To be honest, I think he did a fucking good job. You put a mediocre singer with some great musucians, and they'll pretty much produce a winner 90% of the time.
