Yeah he talks about it on his episode of WTF with Marc Maron. He admits he had no idea what he was doing lol and almost seemed surprised that he did looking back on it. Mantzoukas is an interesting dude. He is also deathly allergic to eggs which is like an insanely rare allergy and includes both raw and cooked eggs.

@amazingabby253 жыл бұрын
New Groove Vinyl Club Im sure not a lot of people,believe him either. And they likely put his life in their idiotic hands. working as a waitress in California, like 40% of the customers said they had an allergy....and many just didn’t like something...stuff like “I’m allergic to gluten”...we go through the whole,process of fixing the dinner on a separate plate....orders a very much gluten cake for dinner. Or I’m allergic to tomamos....”makes them a special salad after spending 10 minutes decontaminating the kitchen”...then orders a pasta with tomato sauce...of course we took them all seriously, but I know having a friend who has celiac people often don’t. I can’t imagine how terrifying it would be to be that allergic to eggs. I’d probably eat only at vegan places OR just order shit like steak or lobster. Eggs are so much fucking stuff.

He went past it very quickly, but I think he has a valid point about vocals as an instrument being more important than the actual lyrics of a song. If you listen to shoegaze music, and a great deal of music that is inspired by it currently, very often you can't even tell what they are saying. The vocals are very low in the mix and colored with reverb and other effects to give them a sort of ethereal, atmospheric quality, and they become just another part of the whole sonic picture. Many artists do not publish their lyrics on the album sleeves because they would prefer listeners to be moved emotionally by the music in its entirety rather that just the text. I used to get frustrated when I opened a new record and there were no lyrics printed, but now I understand why artists do that and I'm on board for the most part.

MBV is an epic band as you well know by now. They're early music is surprisingly poppy. It's fascinating to hear their musical evolution from those early days to their shoegaze albums. Seen them live twice on their 1st comeback tour, once in San Francisco & then at Coachella Fest.. I'll never forget lying in the field at the edge of the crowd watching the stunning starlit sky at night w/their mesmerizing, psychedelic music playing. Good times!

@jonasboone26794 жыл бұрын
Katie you made my year with that fact
@Artyomthewalrus3 жыл бұрын
Also another fun fact after graduating college he was granted a watson fellowship and spent two years travelling throughout north africa and the middle east studying and recording religious and transcendental music. Oh, and he didn't just audition for the blueman group, he had 6 auditions and callbacks - they were actually seriously interested in him, not only did he audition but they asked him back multiple times - and he probably had a good shot, he chose not to finish the full audition process so he could travel and record music from abroad (the blueman group didn't turn him down, it was his choice). He chose to spend 7 months in morocco studying and recording gnawa music instead of finishing the audition process. Saying he auditioned for the blueman group is a huge understatement. He has more experience with really obscure music than most musicians.
