Thank you for watching! Julian Bream: A Life on the Road by Tony Palmer is fantastic. I love books about musicians. I also recommend both Segovia’s and Pablo Casals’ autobiographies as well. Be sure to subscribe to my channel. I also have educational videos and interviews with the best classical guitar players on the planet, including: David Russell, Ricardo Gallén, Berta Rojas, Leo Brouwer, Manuel Barrueco, Andrea Dieci, Zaira Meneses, Jason Vieaux, and Pavel Steidel. Cheers! ~Miguel, Guitar Lessons from Spain 🇪🇸

There is that argument about - can one guitar do it all? Pepe Romero said that the musical performance is a collaboration between the composer the player and the instrument, which to me implies there may be an instrument that's ideal if you're playing Sanz, but that might not be the ideal when you play Villa Lobos, or Domeniconi. A really good guitar of course in the hands of a great player (like Vieaux) can do a good job of any piece and I used to think that numerous guitars shouldn't be necessary. Then I played a Torres (not a copy, an actual Torres) and I experienced something totally different. I have played some great Frederich, Marin, Romanillos, Ruck,...etc. guitars but none of them could sound like that Torres did, so sweet, smooth, round,... (words are so poor at expressing these ideas). But if you had a piece that your ideal sound had bright clear projecting treble, the Torres was not going to deliver. It's like saying Ella Fitzgerald had the perfect voice for every song, or Kiri Tekanawa or Whitney Huston. They are all great singers but have strengths and weaknesses. I can understand that Vieaux doesn't want to get bogged down when he is playing a broad range of styles but as he says, the musician is to clarify the music for the listener. When you hear Tarrega played well on a Torres (or at least a really good Torres copy) you go, oh that's what Tarrega is about. It's sort of like hearing Couperin's music played on a harpsichord if you had only ever heard it on a piano- what are all those new colours? So I think I have to disagree with Jason there - even if he can get better sound out of any one guitar than I could get with 10.

I’ve always felt everyone plays everything too fast. So it’s nice to hear others feel the same way as well .

I totally agree with you! The pieces end up losing the melody in a sonic blur. Thanks for watching! Cheers! ~Miguel, Guitar Lessons from Spain 🇪🇸
