Consider relocating your rear diff breather valve if that big puddle you splashed through is a common occurence. I use a screw-in nipple and 3/8 fuel line to get the breather up around the tail light, cost about $10 per vehicle (2019 4Runner and 2016 Tundra). Great video for early mods, I'm gonna check out those roof bars.

Something to keep in mind when you're packing all that gear into your storage box: if you ever find yourself in a rollover or a collision, all that stuff can come loose and literally kill occupants that would otherwise be unharmed. A box that is permanently mounted (painful, I know), with a lid that secures to the box, or a cargo cage/cabin separator are a must.
@JasonExplainsThings2 жыл бұрын
Good point. The box is secured at all times with a ratcheting strap in the back, and the lid locks, but permanently mounting it would be better.

Had my runner for 6 months now. Took it out stock at a local rock garden. After that I needed sliders. Took it out more, now I need clearance, so I got suspension. Slashed one of my 265s side wall, got it replaced and prepped for bigger tires. BMC/CMC, pinch weld delete and bumper trim, I got wheels and 305s e rated tires including spare. I would load my spare in the hatch everytime I wheeled, so then I got a swing out spare tire carrier. I do a lot of night runs so I needed lights. Got baja d squadron and s2 pros. My point is, take your rig out and you'll know exactly what you need to hit the trails. For me, functionality is priority, looks last.

Nice video. I have a 2018 4Runner Off Road Premium. I put K02s on it (stock size) and love them. I put a steel front bumper with a 12,000 pound winch on the front. I put an Eibach 3 1/2 inch lift on it. I put the same rock sliders on, that you did, only without the top plates. I put on a nice 3/4 length roof rack with rear side panels that I can mount fuel containers or other accessories on. I installed a two drawer storage system in the back. Because of the less than desirable departure angle, I bought a skid plate that goes in the trailer hitch and mount it when I'm going off road. I've banged it pretty hard a few times and it took the hit instead of my truck. I highly recommend getting one of these. I've got a couple of other projects in mind. But right now, I'm very happy with the vehicle and it's performance. I just got back from five days in Utah at the Winter 4X4 Jamboree. I had a great time and the 4Runner performed excellently.

As a 4Runner owner my #1 to do is LED Headlights; though I agree with the tires as they’re made for on roads. I also have floor liners and my carpets still look brand new. I purchased the Toyota cross bars when I bought my vehicle because I use my roof rack. I also added aluminum extruded running boards which I like over the Toyota plastic or tube boards; I also installed push/bull bars which helped when I hit a deer but after I didn’t put another one on due to the noise. I also have a bug guard on my hood as well as rain guards on my windows which are nice in allowing ventilation in the rain. Another must is also a neoprene cover for the center counsel as if it gets scratched/cut replacements are ridiculously expensive.
@JasonExplainsThings3 жыл бұрын
Good ideas. The bug guard is a great one. I’ve since added that.

Leds dont belong in the 4runner headlight housing. The lighting is going to be very off. Hids work best seeing smooth lines.
@libertarian16373 жыл бұрын
@@Anomize23: I replaced all of my original halogen bulbs with LED, that includes high beams, which are duel mode to still allow the DRLs to function as designed, the fog lights, and inside of the projector housings. I have had no issues with them looking off I have a smooth crisp horizon line on the projectiles with beautiful and bright 5,000k white light underneath. The only issue I have had is with the life length on the LEDs in the projector housing as it’s enclosed and they can’t dissipate heat as well as if they were open or had a control box on the outside of the inclosure; even with this issue I have gotten near 2 years and am running over 3 years off the newest set, the first set may have just had bad soldering or something as the new ones haven’t had an issue, and even the older set was replaced at no cost to me under the warranty. I’m incredibly satisfied with my LEDs and would recommend the conversion to anyone and everyone. I’ve never been a big fan of HID which work like fluorescent bulbs and require a sticking of “ballast” to start, though I have installed and used them, they are not as easy as an LED replacement which is simply plug and play as the LED “bulb” simply installs like a standard halogen bulb. Perhaps you had a bad set of LEDs or bought an inexpensive set as mine are great as are the more than 90% of users that have left 4-5 star reviews. Given retailers like Amazon have a 30-day return policy I’d give a decent set another try and return them if you don’t like them. Or don’t if you prefer HIDs; get the headlights that you like and work for you I just know LEDs work great and belong in my 4Runner and I wouldn’t give an absolute answer to anyone as there are always outliers, maybe that’s me, or maybe that’s, either way people can read these comments and make their own choice. Add- I replaced the backup light bulbs too, also with LEDs and they make a night and day difference, I think they were 1,000 or 1,200 lumen bulbs, took me two tries to find a set I liked but they make backing up at night in the country so easy. I don’t know if it’s the white light of the brightness but they really make a difference to the backup camera as it’s basically like daylight to the camera for 30 feet.

Does anybody know it the "grey wire mod" still works on these newer TRDs? For those that don't know, there is a grey colored wire under the dash on older TRDs, it notified the rear e-locker that the vehicle was in 4lo. But you could cut the end of the wire and ground it, and the sensor would always say it's in 4lo, allowing you to use the e-locker in of course 4lo, but 4hi and 2wd. Also having smashed one on my 03 taco, I would recommend picking up a e-locker guard/skid plate. I wanna say I got mine from LowRangeOffroad, and it was around $50 (although times have changed and things cost more), but it's a great protection investment for a $2000 factory part.
@acet73 жыл бұрын
Good reason to pick it, I bought the same model three months ago. The main reason why I bough the off-road was because it's the only model that uses a key start. We are driving 4WD we don't need a dainty push start lol. Otherwise I would have bought the pro because I liked the lunar rock color and other upgrades.

I would say that tinting your windows is the single most effective thing you can do to protect your vehicle's interior, especially if you live in a climate that gets HOT in the summer........which is pretty much the entire U.S. Even if you park in a garage at home, it's the cumulative effects of your vehicle sitting in the sun while you're at work. Had a 14 year old vehicle (bought new) that was tinted within a month of buying it. Interior was immaculate. No fading, ripping, or cracks in the dashboard.

Wide tires actually give you less traction not more. and create a lot of unnecessary issues. If you want height and are willing to be less wide and save money at the same time go with 235x85x16 which are 9.6 inches wide but are 31.7 inches tall and are waaaaay less money. They use this philosophy in Australia and Africa, and it they work great!

Is there a way to replace only the front bumper piece that is the chrome. I want it to be black, but in all the videos I see entire facelifts instead of just that one lower part of the bumper.

What are you using to tie down the Plano storage box and have you found anything that’s a better fit in the trunk area that won’t slide around? Thanks for your time🤠
@JasonExplainsThings2 жыл бұрын
One tie down works perfectly. Doesn’t slide around at all.

Great video; thanks for posting. I bought mine 2 years ago and it only has 9,100 miles on it. I love KO2 tires. Had them on both of my RAV4's.

Thanks! I’ll be transparent for a second and admit the low views for all my new stuff can get to me. But views are not my end goal.

Look into getting a hood scoop wrap/stamp if you're having any glare issues with that hood scoop, definitely recommend.

A fellow Yakimanian! I just purchased a 23 Off Road and found my way to your videos. I'm doing tint this week and trying to find a set of TRD pro wheels to put some KO2s on. I am not a huge fan of the stock silver. Thanks for the video!

Congrats! Yeah we've done tons more to the 4Runner since. Check out the winch bumper and suspension videos especially!

@@JasonExplainsThingsMy goal is suspension and a C4 LoPro at some point. I definitely will need a winch here in the winter for trails. The truck has TSS so I will have to decide on bull bar height or no bull bar. I will also need to find where I am going to get all this money it adds up quickly!

I also bought a 21 T4R and I had new AT tires on them in less than 2 weeks :) Great video and can't wait to see more on your new truck!

The fact they offered me $300 for the stock tires made that decision REALLY easy. :-)

U named your daughter Ripley?! Awesome. I want to add a roof rack for skis and a hitch mounted bike rack. I wander if I can split down the middle the roof accoutrements to be able to mount both skis and a bike or kayak at same time?

My first mod was very similar to you. I got 33” tires though. Mine are the cooper discoverer s/t maxx tires and they are sick all terrains. Very heavy tires but they don’t really shake at interstate speeds like you’d expect. I got a 2” lift and a leveling kit for the front suspension adding another 2” to the front so the 33” tires have plenty of room and don’t rub.
