I am a contractor and decided to do one of our trucks with the Hurculiner. We destroyed that liner in about a year! I spent a fortune having my employees remove it as the shop doing the Rhino liner we installed after, said it was not a compatible substrate. If you're using your truck for Costco runs, luggage for a weekend trip or fishing gear, I'm sure this would be fine. But if you are using your truck for work and hauling, skip it.
@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I can see that. If you're using your truck for heavy daily work, this is not the product for you. Mine has held up ok the past 2 years with hauling anything from rocks to lumber to kayaks an average of once or twice a week. Over that time, mine needs some slight repair, but still holds up ok overall.

THANK YOU!!! Your comment just saved me a bunch of headaches! Im a contractor as well and was getting ready to install Herculiner on my new F-250. I thought it was similar to rhino liner, but I’m now seeing it’s not. I will just go get Rhino Liner installed.

Used this product on a diff cover, not on a truck bed. My truck had a line-x spray in, line-x is unbelievable tough, nice job, but I would go with line-x if my next truck needed it, not sure if herc would handle a heavily used bed, my guess is it would come off hauling unloading rock, I’ve abused my bed and it still looks great.

I hate to sound mean, because I do not mean to.... But how can a company sell a product that produces such poor results. I would be really upset with this product. Really shows the value of a true spray-in liner. Great effort and great video!
@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I don't look at it as a poor product, rather, a lower-use application. For those of us who actually use our trucks to haul things around, drag heavy objects in and out, and subject the bed to some abuse., I do believe money is better spent on a professional spray-in liner. For today's average truck owner, it would be completely adequate to protect against light use. I'm not absolutely disappointed with the results, as it was a low-cost option. I just know now I'll have to probably touch it up now and then over the life of the truck. Thanks for watching!

Hello, I too applied this to my truck, and this is a project that I would definitely pay a company to install again. It's been about 5 months since I applied the Hurculiner, and it has completely lost its shine and has also deteriorated leaving behind the factory paint to bleed through. I want to make clear, I don't use either vehicle for work, it primarily sits all the time, with that said I'm highly disappointed with this product. My other vehicle (F-250), I previosly took to a professional LineX installer, and the difference was night and day. I do not recommend this Hurculiner product. Spend the extra few hundred dollars and get yourself a lifetime warranty and be satisfied with the end results by using a professional. Btw, I'm an avid dyi guy and this took me three days from start to finish. The professional installer had it all finished in less than 6 hours.
@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors2 ай бұрын
Yes, I completely agree that a professionally-applied product is the way to go on this. I'm curious about your Herculiner deteriorating, as I have not had similar results. Mine is holding up well after over 3 years, and I abuse the heck out of it. It has worn through where I drag my kayak in and out, but for the most part, it's still adhered well (except for a few thin places).
@apolloplanb52092 ай бұрын
@@TheGoodeLifeOutdoorsPrior to application, I prepped the surfices correctly as instructed and took my time, this was process was not rushed in any way nor did I cut any corners. Good job, you learned something and shared the experience. Good idea to do this on a nice day outside as polyurathane paint has nasty fumes. My original Herculiner I installed 20 years ago. Truck was never garaged and under Southern Cal sun liner finally started top coat peeling. I recently wire brushed loose paint and brush repainted 2 new Herculiner coats. Paint liner is still just paint so you may need bed mat or old plywood sheet to protect bed floor from sharps.

Still debating a DIY kit or taking the truck line x . Line x is fairly reasonable and tough. Herculiner looks good. How hard does it get? How many hours did you have in it? Looks great
@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors4 ай бұрын
Now that I've done the Herculiner, I'd probably pay for Line-X or something similar in the future. That said, I'm pleased with the Herculiner for what it is. Once cured, it's rigid yet still a bit pliable. It has a hard-rubbery texture. You can slide a full ice chest over it without too much resistance, but that ice chest won't go sliding all around the bed when driving. Other than a few areas of constant wear, like where I slide my Hobie kayak in and out, or places where I've gouged it with something heavy and sharp, it's held up pretty darn well for over 3 years. I hope that helps!

Awesome. Can I paint all my car too?
@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors9 ай бұрын
You certainly could, but I would not recommend it. When fully cured, the bedliner has a hard, rubbery texture, and it tends to trap dirt in it, so it would be very hard to keep the car looking clean. It would take a ton of prep work, too. There are probably better options for painting a car than this. Thanks for watching!

I've had both, and prefer the bonded products, simply to help keep things from sliding around. I've also always been worried about the space between a plastic liner and the bed, and the possibility of rust forming there.

My last F150 had the spray in bedliner from the beginning, and it lasted 14 years until I traded it in for this one. Now that the Herculiner is fully cured, it's got a pretty similar feel to the last one, and I expect it to do pretty well. Worst case, I can touch up and add more layers if needed. Looks good. question ❓ do you think rolling the whole vehicle would look good rolled on? Thinking of doing this to my Jeep. Let me know what you think please,thanks. 👍🏻
@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
From my experience, it will go on fairly smooth (if you prep it well - that will take a lot effort for an entire vehicle), and it will be a little glossy at first. Once you get it out in the weather it will start to get dull. It's a pretty rough texture, so any mud, dirt, bird poop, etc will get engrained and be hard to wash off. You may consider a product that has a smoother texture instead - one of the spray-on ones would probably meet your needs better.
@brianduff42782 жыл бұрын
@@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors thanks, that makes sense.the texture holding mud and debris. I didn't think of that. Good advice,thank you.

How come you did not do the size First and then do the bedliner at the end that way you can do a second coat altogether but I guess everyone does things different I would’ve done the size of the bed first and then do the bed together
@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
My original idea was to use 2 separate products - the roll-on Herculiner for the bottom, and a spray-on bedliner on the sides. I wanted to ensure a nice, thick surface on the bottom with extra coats. 2 things happened to change that plan. I found an extra quart of Herculiner when shopping for the spray stuff, and I found the coverage for the bottom much better than I expected. Yes, the typical process is to start with the sides, then do the bottom. Thanks for watching!

Is the bed liner still holding up good? What do you think of the product so far?
@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
It's been on there about 1.5 years, and it's doing ok. There are some spots that have rubbed back down to the paint where my kayak sets against the front of the bed, and there are a few gouges where I've dragged heavy items in and out, but for the most part it's holding up about as I expected. A professionally-applied product would probably be more durable, but I don't have major complaints about this DIY product.
@oscarvillarreal89512 жыл бұрын
@@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors yeah, I want to put some on my truck but I'm not going to put as much heavy stuff in the back. I just want some protection for it. Since you can brush this on or use a roll in was thinking of using this product.

I live on the coast in south Texas, so heat and humidity are both high, and neither have seemed to have affected the product. I do have a hard tonneau cover, so the bedliner is out of the weather most of the time.

Can that bed liner be applied on the carpet skid plate just to keep it water proof...
@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I think that's an odd application. Those fabric "protectors" simply keep small debris off the bottom. If you were simply wanting to waterproof it, I would think a aerosol waterproofer would be a much easier application than applying a thick, messy bed liner, though I'm not clear on the reasoning for you doing it. Mine had been torn off before I purchased the truck, and my understanding is that's a common thing, as they're really flimsy. I don't think the Herculiner would help with that either.

It needs to be scuffed up, as you see from 2:32 to 3:14 The green scuff pad cuts into the paint quite well, and I have not had any issues with the bed liner staying adhered. I have had it wear off in places where something is rubbing on long drives, though.

Absolutely. You need to scuff the surface of the paint to allow the bedliner to adhere to it. Using the Xylene removes any leftover grease, oils, waxes, etc that will be on any painted surface. Good preparation is key here. If you skimp on any of the steps, it will peel off.

ive had alot of trucks. the worst bedliner is those plastic inserts, they just harbor moisture underneath and are so slippery as to be DNAGEROUS. In that light on a new truck i would leave stock alone unless you know u r gonna be giving it heavy ahrd use BUT even with heavy hard use i noticed with my one truck thick spray in liner. it was great in most respects but try move a 300 lb fridge on that soft pliable surface by yourself! unless u r a hulk , YOU WONT. the legs sink in and 1 guy cant easily maneuver it.
@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors2 ай бұрын
I agree on the plastic bedliners. I've found the Herculiner has hardened up over time, so while it's not the toughest liner out there, it does allow for heavy material movement without catching. That said, at the edge of the bed at the tailgate, the constant dragging of my kayak out and in has completely worn through the liner and the paint - here is where I'm thankful for the aluminum body on the F150 as there is no corrosion in that spot.

@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I guess it depends on the usage. If they are chrome or other nonpainted metal side steps, I don't think you'd be able to scuff them up enough for it to adhere well. If they are painted or powdercoated, it might work ok, but would probably wear off over time where you stepped in and out of the truck.
