Do you know why most bedroom doors are hollow core? Because these doors are the cheapest ones available. And probably if you have to go and buy a door to replace a damaged door, you will probably buy another hollow core door. So let’s be real honest about this point. Solid core doors are nearly always an MDF core. Solid wood core doors are only installed in very high end homes that the original owner would have specified such doors, and paid a premium price for that upgrade.

One might have colonist hollow core throughout the entire home, but could install a solid wood colonist door, such as an alder or oak on their bedroom. If I were kicking or using a battering ram, I'd be hitting the door knob side of the door to apply more pressure to the jam, not the centre of the door. As others have said, internal doors are usually hollow core and have little or no strength. You might as well just put a chair under the door knob.

You tested it on a exterior metal door. Try the test again on a thinner interior hollow core door, and strike it below or above the Doorricade. You'll punch through like it's cardboard. This is a very misleading test, which will give people a false sense of security. You should've mentioned that your bedroom door should at least be a solid core door, and preferably metal.

Good idea to get 4" screws and secure the frame to the house as you are installing this. Also, replace hollow-core interior doors with solid core for "safe rooms" inside. I think this would be a good deterrent to slowing them from easy entry, but obviously, if someone really wanted in, the next vulnerable place is the windows. Alarm systems and/or dogs would be good next layers of defense.

As a professional builder, I know the skills to open this door. But I won't talk about that. However, I can give a good recommendation for installing the door frame based on what I saw in the video. In addition to the polyurethane foam and bolt fastening, it must be filled with adhesive sealant up to 1 inch. The tensile strength of the door frame increases dozens of times.

I've been to door breaching training as a cop. I think that this thing would hold up even if he was striking the ram near the handle ("attack the crack"). That said, hydraulic rabbit tool, breaching shotgun, or explosive breach would make quick work of it. Still, I'm interested in buying. Shit like this really does work. So... This is mounted to a doorframe... in an American house made of cardboard and high hopes, which (before the hate comes) you proved to be right by dislodging the doorframe with just a few hits with a ram. And based on the standard carpenting practices I've seen on YT, is one of the sturdier applications out there. Realisically speaking, it's not a safe room, more like "gives you enough time to grab a shotgun if you keep it under your bed" room. Still a huge advantage since I presume a regular burglar would not even bother to enter and wake you up, but don't sell it as a safe room solution since it's far from it.

You could look at getting optical plexiglass fitted to both doors (will also help greatly with heat/ cold temperature modulation). Would slow them down for awhile. Windows, too. Or, get a metal security grate to go on the outside or inside - for windows, too. Can get fancy ones. Nothing will work 'forever", though. Criminals always seem to find a way to get what they want.

For those commenting in certain setups things like this may just slow them down, so what ? That's better than the door blowing open with one kick as you're sleeping and you have a split second to orient and figure out what to do or arm yourself . A few seconds or more can save your life . 3" #8 screws in the hinges, and striker plates will literally do the exact same thing and only cost $3. I did this back in the day at my apartment. I came home to a cracked and damaged door. Every other apartment had been broken into except mine. The door needed to be replaced but they never made it in. You could tell from the damage they were kicking the doors in. They gave up on mine after many kicks. 3" screws reach through the weak trim and into the studs in the wall making it SIGNIFICANTLY stronger.

A few years ago I had cops trying to kick in my door over a misdeminor failure to appear warrant over a charge thats gonna result in civil rights violation charges against everyone involved but I digress, when the coos tried to kick in my door it gave me enough to time decide what I wanted to eat, cook it, eat & call my cousin to let her know that I was about to be arrested which all took about 2 hours before I came outside willingly.

A lot of critiques. The thing that raised my eyebrows was at 4:29. Like many homes today, the door has glass windows next to the door. Can't help but think bad guys would target a home with this type of build. Wouldn't be difficult at all to break the glass and defeat the device. You’re striking the middle of the door, where it equally distibutes the impact over both anchors. I was taught to kick a door by the lock, which even if the lock is already compromised will center the impact on one anchor, not both, effectively doubling the power of the kick, or tool being used.

I think a mandatory addition is a hole drilled in near either end. Then mount the bar beside the door with a bolt theough the hole that allows the bar to pivot up and down like a railroad crossing gate. Have a small holding bracket that allows the bar to lean away from the door about 10 degrees. This will allow anyone to just immediately slap the bar down into place, instead of fumbling around trying to find it, especially in the dark or while being chased. The pivot bolt doesn't need to be kick proof because the included device brackets are what provides the strength.

But realistically, if someone is willing to try and use a battering ram to break in, they would also likely just enter through a window which is obviously much easier. So this would have no practical effect if you were on vacation.

Door club is better. Drill into floor, insert base, door club fits inside base and stops entry. No exposed parts to cut someone if they walk into them like the ones in this video. You should install 3" screws into hinges and jamb plates as normal security. And a security combo-jamb covers handset and deadbolt. Uses 10 screws to install the combo plate.

I believe the battering ram might have been more effective if aimed at the latch side of the door. That puts most of the pressure on ONE side of the door rather than dividing the ram force by two sides when hitting it in the middle of the door. A description of the makeup of the Dorricade would have been helpful too. It seems to be impressive. It could certainly buy you some time for a police response to arrive at least.

We have used HURRICANE DOOR BARS FOR DECADES IN FLORIDA, ESPECIALLY ON DOUBLE DOORED ENTRYWAYS. You need strong insertion points for the screws and a metal door. This will not prevent a breach on the typical white interior door which is basically made of cardboard

The "Defender" works the same way, it attaches to the door hinge and just one can withstand 800lbs of force, I got a 3 pack off Amazon. And if you want to you could attach one to each hinge of the door and come out with more cash in pocket. Although, this guy has a good security tool, I'm just one who's very frugal with my money lol. Two different t doors, one has a simple silver door handle th either has gold door handles and a dead lock. Also kick/hit the door near the lock, not in the middle. Near the end it would only have taken one or two more hits for the entire door to cave in.

Don't most US homes have cardboard walls? You can just kick through the interior walls. Also assumes the door jamb is solid enough to take any real kind of load. And if you have a crowbar, use it as a lever as it was intended to be used. European homes have multipoint door locks on perimeter doors, this bar would be a pointless addition since the door frame would fall out first.

The chain is only as strong as the weakest link. Door frame is the weakest link. Also you did hit it correctly with the battering ram. You are supposed to hit just beside the deadbolt. You lose 75% of your power by hitting in the center of the door because it's hinged on side opposite the deadbolt. Still a nice product, but you an do this yourself with a pair of towel hooks and a solid rod. (I did exactly that many years ago, and it works great and dirt cheap.)
