Personally, I like the tear-downs, that’s how us viewers learn. Non causing permanent damage, is of course even better. I agree with your observation Jason, It seems manufacturers are improving construction because of the tear-downs by reviewers. I used to cringe at new car crash tests, but it’s a necessary sacrifice for the better good.

Hey Jason. You have a great channel and I certainly appreicate it. I would not be concerned regarding comments, especially those that are rude and threatening. I think you should continue to do things as youi see fit. I like all aspects of your videos regardless of what you plan to do. People who leave comments such as what you mentioned says a lot them as a person. It is one thing to suggest an idea to you which is acceptable, but to be silly and rude is another. I would not give it a second thought. Teardowns are very beneficial and gives the consumer a direct look at the quality of their products which are expensive purchases. I do not look for teardowns in each video, but I certainly appreciate it. The majority of commentors know your a stand up guy and provide great content. You are among other great people KZbinrs who are terrific at helping us understand how these products work. A big thanks to you!

Clearly, teardowns have been very successful in improving the quality of these batteries, so I am inclined to go with continuing them. Hobotech asked the same question on his channel, but since he gives batteries away to friends and people in need who otherwise can't afford them, I supported his idea of not doing teardowns on his channel, but making sure the batteries found good homes after he reviewed them.

Great video thank you. The dismantling of the battery (you do not destroy them) if you don’t look you don’t know, and if the manufacturers do not like it they will stop cooperating with you,but if that happens people my wonder what do they have to hide, and if you are happy to use them after you put them back together then there is no loss in the exercise. 👍🌞🐝

I think you would want to see the build quality. What kind of cells; what grade the cells are. Does it have a low temperature setting cut-off? How big is the BMS? Some less expensive battery's use a small BMS and so you need to know these things to want to buy the battery. I am always going to look on Will Prowes' sight to see if he has torn the battery down that I wish to purchase. I really like the fact that this battery can be wired in series. I personally am a 12-volt user, but if you are going to invert your batteries you might as well go to a 24 or even 48-volt system. Another great review Jason. You do such a great service to all of us.

The tabs on the battery are aluminum so they'd have to use a similar metal to weld it. Aluminum is a great conductor and these bus bars are thick enough to handle the load.

sorry to hear some folks are sad about your battery tear downs, i personally enjoy seeing them, although in this video i didn't get to see any struggles as you cut to the opened part, a quick time lapse of the opening is all i really am asking for. but seeing the build construction is also good. i suggest quickly also mentioning and showing the bms identification as well as the cells, noting bolted on bus bars or laser welded, and placement of bms leads and temp sensor locations and how they are secured. in this batterys case the bms leads are glued and bolted to the bus bars. and the temp sensors are taped down to each cell i think as i can just about make that out. also when testing you can see if all the temp sensors do hot and cold or just one, some have only one cold probe that cuts off the charging, a quick mention is all that is needed. thanks again for your review

As alway you continue to produce top notch videos. I believe that if you are going to recommend a product like the batteries, a tear down of the videos are warranted as it gives you valuable information as to the quality of the build and parts. Have a question for you. I have an old Inergy Apex power bank that has served me well for my intended use. Do you know if I was to purchase this battery and make my own battery cable with alligator clips and an EC8 plug, I could use the REDODO to charge my Apex on days that are raining or cloudy when I'm out camping? Kind of nervous plunking down money for a lithium battery if I am not able to use it as I intend too for emergencies only. Was planning to make different cables too, for my jackery 500 as well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

Hey Rob, I talk about that kinda of stuff in my channel livestreams and covered it HERE: kzbin.infoGm_E0J9LCMw?feature=share I'm guessing the issue came from a panel manufacturing defect and caused a 'hot spot' which led to the burn spot. Great video, thanks. What I don't understand is the point of a self heated battery when used with a controller like the one you use that has a low temp charge preventer. Let's say it's 20 deg F and you want to charge your battery. The self heating of the battery will heat the battery up to above 32 F so you can charge. But as I understand it, the controller senses its own temp (not the temp of the battery), and the self heating of the battery doesn't heat up the controller obviously, so even though the battery heated itself to above 32 deg F (so it can be charged), the controller remains below 32 and won't charge the battery. Am I missing something? I already have a controller with low temp charge prevention so seems like buying a battery with self heating makes little sense.

Thank you for the Tear down .. I wonder if you would be willing to do a tear down of their 50AH 12V battery which is a Group 35 (I Believe) form factor? I am interested in in getting 2 of those and connecting them in series to create a 50AH 24V pack to use as an expansion battery for my Bluetti EB3A. I figure a 24V battery would allow me to hook it up directly to the Bluetti instead of hooking up a 12V with a 12 to 24V DC converter like you did in a previous video. Thank you again, would love to see it.
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid Жыл бұрын
That would be a great plan to charge the EB3A, you'd get around the max 'solar' input of 200 watts charging that way. I haven't looked at their 50AH batteries before but I'm guessing they'd have the same great build quality. Have you seen any videos online of those?
@EfficientRVer
@EfficientRVer Жыл бұрын
Don't forget to equalize the voltages and charge states of the power station and expansion pack before connecting them in parallel. Then it's best to then keep them in parallel rather than having to get things right routinely. The first time you forget and drain down the Bluetti without your homebrew expansion pack connected, then connect the expansion pack, you'd better hope you have good overcurrent protection on both the Bluetti and your pack, proper wire sizing, connections that won't melt, aren't somewhere that sparks will cause an explosion, etc. You might know what you're doing, but someone reading your plan who owns an EB3A and wants cheap expansion, might not even understand Ohm's Law, where/when/why to put a fuse, what the current limit of a particular connector is, or other basic stuff needed to be safe. Once it looks like a product accessory, many consumers will assume they can plug and unplug the accessory at will.

It's not as if you're killing and doing autopsies on puppies to revew pet stores. It's some electronic components hidden in a plastic box. Open it up, if you're willing and competent, which it's obvious you are. So, of course do teardowns if comfortable with the physical danger and the risk of occasionally bricking or reducing the value of the product. I wonder what the complainers think of NHTSA crash testing brand new cars more expensive than their own car. Information is power. Trusting manufacturers to do things right and spend extra money on things that are out of sight, isn't a great plan. We're lucky when they don't outright lie or cheat us, like with the Volkswagen emissions scandal and 100 other things. Whatever you need to do to figure out how a product works, how well built it is, and how honest the claims are about it, I support reviewers/testers in doing. Try not to die on that mission, but hey, no matter how careful we are, we all die eventually anyway. Also, you can't take your money with you, and all good businesses and professionals spend some money and put some money at risk in the name of doing things right.
