At some time in my life, I was bored and I played "Fool us" by my self, emailing all contestants on Fool Us with my guess to how their magic trick was done. Shawn is the only magician who responded to me to tell me I was wrong (It was a guess for his book trick), he was really nice in his reply and just the fact he took the time to reply to a random amateur magician on the internet proves he's an awesome person :)

It's arguably not very polite to use those emails to message them in your own personal interest, but anyone who's not really uptight isn't going to chew some kid out for reaching out to them, probably at worst you'd just get ignored which seems to be what happened.

The grave is great; they had a bit on Penn & Teller Bullshit where they teach a great trick to play: When you're in Las Vegas, have your friend pick a card (force the 3 of clubs) and put it in an envelope. Then, at the end of the day, after they've forgotten about the envelope, go to the cemetery and look at the graves of famous people, and there's a gravestone for Penn & Teller that says, "Is this your card?" with the 3 of clubs.

I believe the gravestone was put there by Penn and Teller. I recall them teaching the audience a trick once that involved the card on that stone as a reveal so I think it's theirs and will probably always be there with the budget they must have so yea that's cool.

I'm not a magician by any means, but my one tangential connection to magic is that when I was in graduate school I was volunteered to pack up Persi Diaconis' office. Part of the reason we took the job was in the hope of finding some cool magic paraphernalia, but in fact it was miserable work and the only even vaguely magic thing in the office was a very simple coin flipping device.

Jason, the cenotaph (tombstone) is a real thing and has existed for years in Forest Lawn cemetery. It exists for one purpose. If you happen to be in L.A. you can "blow" a trick by forcing the 3 of clubs on a friend a mess up finding the selection. Hours later you can tour Forest Lawn with your friend and show the 3 of clubs reveal on the cenotaph. Always found it amazing the extent Penn & Teller will go to for a bit. I believe it is explained in their book Cruel Tricks for Dear Friends.

Beverages: When l was younger l had more sophisticated tastes. I used to love _Earl Grey, Lapsang Souchong and Elderflower tea_ at night (all with no milk or sugar) because Elderflower has no caffeine and is the only herb tea that tastes anything like _normal_ tea AND it used to grow in my garden in London! Now in North Cyprus l don't drink tea _at all_ makes me sweat too much. l drink ANYTHING *Nestlé* as it gives me a powerful high - l don't take alcohol, dont even take aspirin or any other chemicals or drux . I drink MAINLY instant Nescafé Gold or Nescafé Espresso *but l do have a Nespresso Capsule machine for my morning Ristretto.* Very occasionally - once a month - l have a Turkish Coffee but it is very strong. l never drink bottled water (l need flavour) if l want to cool down l drink Coke Zero. (Before Coke Zero came along l drank Diet Coke.) (You can't get Caffeine Free coke in the North or l would alternate to cut down on caffeine.)

On the gravestone question, Penn had the gravestone installed in a real graveyard for the reveal of a magic trick. It's in the forest lawn cemetery in Holywood Hills. It was in the late 90's I believe.

Yes Melissa is a type of plant. In the US it is more known as Lemon Balm, but everywhere else it is Melissa (the systematic name is Melissa Officinalis). It is a plant in the same family as Mint and has a taste a bit like mint mixed with lemon

The gravestone mentioned in the intro video is a real thing. It was placed in the 90's in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood. There is a whole routine about it in one of their books. You are supposed to do a card trick where you force the 3 of clubs just before going into the cemetery and botch the reveal. Then while walking and looking at the celebrity graves, you talk about magic and messages from beyond the grave, then you lead them to Penn & Tellers gravestone for the big reveal.
