Why do we learn all this stuff? Scales, Arpeggios, Changes, Structure? Here's a fairly relaxed talk and demo of all of these things we've been going over here for years in a demonstration where you get to see them in improvised action. Watching this makes me homesick for New Orleans. There is so much to the city besides all the violence you hear about. If you use common sense you're usually ok. And, once again thanks for making it clear how important it is to learn all the stuff people don't think is important. Even though we do alot of it anyway in our playing, but because we don't know we're doing it we don't have the command of our playing we would have if we knew what we were playing. I feel you on the construction. Living in a city is so loud. That being said when I go outside to play I like to try to harmonize to the sounds of drills and sanders and trucks idling and if I hear someone hammering then I use that as my metronome ahaha

Same. I’m stricken with perfectionism, which results in having to learn songs exactly as they’re played on the recording… I realized recently that this isn’t wise because if I never stray from the original, I’ll never be more than a cover band-style harp player. I’m slowly starting to take more liberties and have focused on being a musician instead of a harp player. It’s an endless, but beautiful, struggle. One thing that has helped is to take these videos where Jason plays a lengthy example, and slowing it down to ear train. Breaking down the progression and figuring out why he plays what he does, and when, has been very enlightening.

Question,should I get the Harp brake??? I am using fender champ 600 with a Weber speaker upgradeed circuit board amp very loud I can't get The Break-Up crunch till about 9 or 12 volume now I am in small quarters using bullet mics well the harp break give me more crunch at a lower volume
