I’m very good at dialing in 2 types of compression: “doesn’t do anything”and “sounds like crap.” I had one shining moment of using a dynacomp to get perfect chicken pickin’ telecaster tone…maybe. I’m so garbage at that kind of playing it was hard to tell. 😂

Jason, great content as always. I like the way that you research the features of the Helix to better understand what their intended features are to better use the Amp/Effect/etc. You also have the keen insight of additional functionality that the folks at Line 6 give us sometimes. You have explained this approach to using Compressors before and it is always good to go into a little more detail and demonstration. I think that I am a better engineer because of you (and what I have learned in Nashville working with Stephen Leweke at Yakland Studios and Derri Daugherty at Dan Michael's home studio). Keep putting out great content - and don't forget to grace us with another album soon!

Whats humorous to me about this whole concept of post wet/fx compression is that it's used all the time in studio situations: Dry guitar signals are commonly routed to fx/buses that contain a delay or reverb heavily treated by a parallel compressor. This creates effects that diminish in loudness while the dry signal is present and increase loudness as the dry signal decreases. This allows these wet fx to be noticed in the empty spaces around the dry signal moreso than they would be otherwise. The only place you can actually perform parallel compression in the guitar world would be through wet/dry/wet routing, but a compressor at the end of a mono signal can be used to simulate this effect if the mix knobs of the wet effects don't exceed the DB of the dry signal.

The "Preamp" Block is the one I use the least, actually not at all. I do not run my HX Stomp signal out to exterior Cabs or an Amp. I just run it into a Mixer and use Monitoring Headphones. John Cordy has an old video about to use a Preamp Block as a type of Overdrive. Do you have any other insights into different and creative and fun ways to use the Preamp Block? I get the feeling I'm overlooking something really cool that I could do with it, particularly in light of the 3.50 update, but I have no idea what it might be. Thanks

Someone said my helix was muddy and I should boost 400 Hz which I'm sure I recall you saying that 400 was where mud lived? Which is correct
