Great vlog as usual Jason Thank you for sharing all aspects of Tanganyikan keeping. Real eye opener for me seeing so much aggression. Hope they will be able to get back together later 😊

Cheers Paul. It was a real eye opener for me too! I am hoping they will be ok when I reintroduce her. I'll be re-aquascaping the tank before hand to suppress any aggression that's for sure!

I can't believe you didn't get bit picking up the shell. My black calves like to bite me on the knuckle when I'm not looking.
@JasonsCichlids3 жыл бұрын
Whenever I approached the tank with the net, she swam away from the shell, which surprised me. Took a couple goes to coax her into the shell with her fry so I could just pick it up and place it in the grow out tank. But yes, thankfully she didn't bite me! They have a good set of chompers on them!

Wow they are really going at it! Yes I would seperate them they’re faces are getting messed up a bit. Congrats on the quick spawn though! The silver lining to the storm of a fight🙂👍🏻

They sure were! Just didn't stop! I simply thought, she saw the shell, she associated it with fry and then her instincts went into overdrive to defend it. But yeah she really did spawn! Was a nice surprise again!

A divider would stop the physical damage, but damn! she's aggressive!

Yeah for sure it would have, she definitely isn't usually like that. It's actually the first time I have ever seen her that agro!

@@JasonsCichlids I also placed an order for 2 Jebao DCP5000 pumps, the seller has sent me a message to please send $50 more to cover shipping costs!! Needless to say my reply was very short and sweet, send it within 24 hours or I will cancel the order and go through another seller!! Deceptive little buggers, aren't they?? Who did you order your pumps through?? Might be my next option

jason informative video..These guys can really go crazy...well mine are still at around 1.5 inches so I have time...)))
@JasonsCichlids3 жыл бұрын
Cheers David. Yeah I guess they can! I learnt a lot of this experience as my other pair of calvus are nothing like this! Yeah they take a while to grow to this size but hopefully you won't have issues like this.

👏👏👏 Great footage as always Jason ... At what stage does the Mum's aggression turn down❓
@JasonsCichlids3 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate. It really doesn't stop. At the moment I have her in one of my 2 foot cubes by herself to recuperate. The shell is with her too (but the fry are in their grow out tank). She still is agro with me when I approach the tank because she is still with the shell. She just associates the shell with her fry so much that even just seeing the shell makes her want to protect that area. She'll be in this tank for another week or so before I introduce her back into her tank with the other 3 black calvus. BUT the shell won't be going in for a while! Not until I am ready to spawn them again.

Does this tank have LED lighting? If so, do you know what numbers you use? I like the darker look.

It is LED but just cheap eBay lights, nothing special

Ye I would separate them for a while aswell, before they do any permanent damage

Yeah mate, any longer and one or both of them would have died. She has been out of that tank for around 2 weeks now and is pretty much back to normal thankfully. The male is completely fine now too. Just a crazy time!

calvus don't live in friend groups they live in pairs, one time or another this would happen..even more in a small tank, i like its contents, it would be interesting to update a subtitle in portuguese for your brazilian fans, a hug

Would a single one of these work out with Leleupi and Multis in a 4ft tank?
@JasonsCichlids3 жыл бұрын
I probably wouldn't do it just because the multies may get picked off once the calvus grows.

Why didn't you just get a separator and split the tank in 2?

@@JasonsCichlids yeah man I have some black mobo calvus and I need to separate them during spawning but I just put in a acrylic divider works great
@richardwalley28623 жыл бұрын
Could it just be they are similar size?
@JasonsCichlids3 жыл бұрын
The reason they fight? My original "pair" were different sizes when I bought them. They did start to fight once they grew to be the same size as each other. But nothing like the fighting you see in this video. Calvus are generally peaceful fish.
@Cichlid_4_ever Жыл бұрын
Can they be kept alone ?
@JasonsCichlids Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend keeping them as a single fish with no other fish in the tank. They will be stressed without other fish in the aquarium and you may have difficulty getting them to eat.
