we need to remember the key factors of cardistry: art, video making, photography, visual, skill, community and so on... That's what makes cardistry cool to watch, if we only focus on "skill", then it happens that it gets boring, content is not fun anymore, I get there are some people who want to see something new, but we need to keep in mind that cardistry has to be fun and cool to watch, because that's what keeps it alive and attracts/inspire new people to join the community. old style, new style, old moves, new moves, it doesn't matter, It has to be cool and fun to watch, there has to be the right balance, that's what makes a good cardist and keeps the art alive. Personally, I don't enjoy new style cardistry that much because it looks too slow and not that attractive so I think there should be more focus on video making/editing to make it look cool, but still, I support everyone anyway, because again, community is a key factor. Besides, back in the days, cardistry gained a lot of popularity thanks to editors, there were a lot of really cool videos spreading all around the internet reaching millions of people(youtube in particular) and that built much interest, and I believe there's still much potential. Again, let's try to keep cardistry cool, fun and attractive to watch, and let's support everyone. Hope many people will get this comment.

Luckily, cardistry is still very alive in my environment. It's the people with a long term passion for the art that drives the community forward, for example Cardistry Experience. There's definitely less hype around decks now, which was a big part of the community. But at it's core we carry the responsibility to invite new people into our world. Who knows if this generation still have the time to create cardistry content when we're all adults with a fulltime job.

Thanks Jaspas, I do think that the local community is important, but I've been feeling like there's been less interaction between the great cardists out there and the online community as well. I remember a time when my feed was all super sweet, high-quality new videos by great cardists, and I'd click on them and be inspired to maybe slow down a video and learn something, or drop a comment about the moves I like. I may have missed some releases, but the last good video I saw was the GOSH! video by Jacob Paton and Samuel Pratt last August.

I'm glad you talk about the weird marketing strategy of hype cardistry brands, the problems with very limited runs, selling out within a short time, the reselling market (scalpers) and how this isn't consumer friendly. It's rude towards their fans, especially those who have to pay a lot for shipping. Much respect that you don't go down that path!

But the passion is still there. Cannot wait for the new deck! I am about 6 months back into cardisty after about a 1 year hiatus (full time work and full time school took up all my time) and I am falling in love with the craft harder and harder. However, I have been left wondering what happened to the online community. I never was able to make it to the cardistry cons or any meet up’s, and I was so jealous of everyone that could; but I want to now that I’m back into the art form. Also you speaking about casting a wider net, I have been trying for a couple of months now to figure out a way to get more people involved in the art form, one idea I’ve had is giving out free lessons at a library or community center to garner the interest of people who have never seen it. If you have any tips or ideas on how I could get the ball rolling on this it’d be greatly appreciated Hi from California

I just think it’s a combination of a lot of things, like the covid thing, I wouldn’t have known since I quit a year before that. But I think it’s also because, cardistry used to feel so new and fresh and it was on the rise during those years like 2015 to 2019. To me it hasn’t felt the same for a while like it did during those years. I’m sure big things have happened for cardistry in the last 3 years. And I completely am with you on the making sure the people who support you get the cards you sell. That’s one thing in the cardistry I wish we can get rid of. Of how they are resellers in the playing card market, selling cards at ridiculous prices. And it’s always either fontaines, or anyone decks. But anyways, I have seen cardistry come back in ways it hadnt before. I’ve literally seen TikToks or KZbin shorts of cardistry that have millions of likes 😨 and it’s all for simple moves that involve the faro shuffle. So maybe there is hope who knows. Great to see you though Jaspas.

Playing card fatigue is real, even collectors stopped and started unloading entire collections. Carding can swing a par of rider backs no problem but the collectors are leaving from too many decks being put out

I'm frtom Turkey I started Cardistry in 2020. 2020 Turkey economy was not bad I can buy playing cards in 2020 10 Turkish Liras= 1 USD. but now 30 turkish liras= 1 usd its makes imposibble to buy standart bicycle cards and thats why I leave cardistry. Turkey economy is now really bad and just buying any playing cards or standart biycle cards impossible for us.

Cards r too expensive right now because covid and dozens of wars have cost rising cost in life and 25usd for a deck that ruin a week and u have to practice hours a day isnt a ideal situation
