National Parks are just a huge tinder box. They don't allow Forrest maintenance, thinning out the Forrest, making fire breaks. They say they want to keep the forest as pristine as possible, I'm all for that, but basic forest maintenance is a must. Putting fires out that burn in a National Park is very hard due to the abundance of excess fuel.

Apparently we wanted smaller government and less state employees for awhile now... I think parks canada was on that chopping block.

The provincial government drastically reduced funding for controlled burning and thinning of forest under-brush across the province. Our forests here need to have small burns for the health and growth of the forest, and without this dead and dry plant matter builds up, and all it takes is a spark. The increasing issues with heat and lack of moisture in the summer is making this so much worse. I miss when my summers weren't three months of smoke and 35+ weather.

Forest maintenance does happen in the National Parks. I am not sure what's been done in Jasper recently as I haven't been there for a few years but Banff had a controlled burn a couple of years ago and periodically does so.

both. National Parks are operated by Parks Canada but the Provinces operate parks as well. Banff National Park and Jasper National Park are in Alberta. Peter Lougheed Provincial Park (just east of Banff National Park)is operated by the Province of Alberta. They have different rules, fees, etc. I hope that makes sense.

we had a liberal minister in town a few months back and a forest fire occurred shortly after. i wanted to help put it out and went in there throwing 20 and 50 dollar bills at the fire. i was amazed at how that didn't work.

50 years ago in Northern Ontario a forest fire burned taking our home and many others. Fire and forests have long had this relationship, it is a method of cleansing the earth. We are just in the way.
