Wayang kulit or Shadow puppet shows have a distinctive feel, because they are always held from midnight to dawn. Now it is very rarely performed in villages, because the costs are expensive and people's preferences have changed and many Javanese people nowadays don't understand high-level Javanese language

Masing masing alat musik punya nama sendiri (rebab, kendang, bonang, saron, kenong, gambang, etc) Dan semua jenis alat tersebut disebut dengan 1 nama GAMELAN Sedangkan orang yg memainkan alat alat tersebut disebut PENGRAWIT Penyanyinya disebut SINDEN. Secara keseluruhan (alat musik+pengrawit+sinden) disebut KARAWITAN

Hi Mustafa! You have been very lucky to discover a performance by the world-renowned Ki Purbo Asmoro, although the way the recording was cut up makes it impossible to follow even if you would try to understand without the translation. Wayang kulit figures from Central and East Java are made from water buffalo hide. As you noted, in Sunda (= West Java) they use the wayang golek, or 3-dimensional wooden puppets. In Bali, they use the flat, leather puppets as in Central and East Java, but smaller.

The performances in Java go from 8 or 9pm through to 3am or 4am now (they used to go to 4am or 5am). The general agreement is that "wayang" in this case does not translate as "shadow" but rather as "vision" and these puppets and their stories offer a "vision" of life-a reflection of life. Javanese do NOT watch on the shadow side as much as on the color side-it's their preference. The light source is electric in Java-flame lamps and oil lamps have long been out of practice.

Wayang kulit is a religious and cultural art, namely Sunan Kalijogo, a saint who uses shadow puppets to broadcast Islam using a Javanese understanding. So when you look at Islam in the Middle East and Islam in Indonesia it will be very different. because in ancient Java, Indonesia, the Islam brought by Arab traders was not accepted by the Javanese people, because the Islam they taught was not the Qur'an in terms of values/content but in terms of history, procedures, etc... in Java, there was already a belief from An ancestor who people call a capitayan. where the capitalist's understanding of the values/content is the same as the Koran. So it was wayang kulit that made Indonesians until now the majority Muslim. And what I hate is that Islam in Indonesia is now more middle eastern... The generation of the 1990s only knew about the Islamic rituals of prayer, reading the Koran in Arabic without ever knowing the value of the rituals they were carrying out.

Wayang kulit (Javanese: ꦮꦪꦁ​ꦏꦸꦭꦶꦠ꧀) is a traditional form of shadow puppetry originally found in the cultures of Java and Bali in Indonesia.[1] In a wayang kulit performance, the puppet figures are rear-projected on a taut linen screen with a coconut oil (or electric) light. The dalang (shadow artist) manipulates carved leather figures between the lamp and the screen to bring the shadows to life. The narratives of wayang kulit often have to do with the major theme of good vs evil.

Secara arti kata shadow puppets kurang sesuai untuk menyebut Wayang Kulit Wayang dalam tradisi Jawa difahami sebagai wewayangan atau suatu bentuk gambaran Sedangkan kulit untuk menunjukkan jenis bahan yg digunakan untuk membuatnya Shadow Puppets dalam bahasa Indonesia bisa diartikan boneka bayangan, jd kurang sesuai untuk menyebut Wayang Kulit. Karena wayang kulit tidak berbentuk seperti boneka (wayang golek)
