To add, Gaha Sattasai (Gatha Saptashati) compiled by Satvahan King Hala somewhere in first 50 years of last millennium is one of the oldest anthologies. It is in prakrit and has collection of around 250+ contemporary poets including Hala himself. If we go by the definition of anthologies Vedas could be counted as one of the oldest and debatably the oldest anthologies which collects poetry from various sages.

What a wonderful conversation. I recall my conversation with Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi in London back in the late 1990a, when i briefly taught at SOAS, London University. I still very much believe that using devenagri script to write Hindustani may not be the right way forward as it would limit its use. Here are the main reasons for my disagreement with Javed Akhtar. 1. I agree that it’s the most scientific script, but Devenagri script is not easy to learn and write / type. I have noted that it deters people, especially in Europe and America, from learning this beautiful indo-european language. 2. People from south india may feel alienated as most of them are not familiar with devenagri script, as far as i am aware. 3. I advocate using romanised script because it lends itself to the Hibdusrani sounds, as i realised when i taught comparative literature at London Uni. 4. As Javed Akhtar points out, he has to write things in Romanised script for younger audiences. Why not stick with it then, and further develop it, by standardising it. In fact you only need a few dots and slashes to pronounce everything perfectly, if you use my transliteration methodology.

Javed Akhtar looks as progressive as Indian as Bharti, praising all Indian history.WHILE a progressives Leader, Karl Marx, says India doesn’t have history ( in his two letters as journalist, in 1853, in his first letter British Rule In India and in his 2nd letter British Rule In India And Its Futre Results. दो बातें कहना चाहूँगा। पहली यह कि केवल देवनागरी ही ऐसी लिपि नहीं है जिसमें जो बोली जाती है वो लिखी जाती है और जो लिखी जाती है वही पढ़ी जाती है। हिंदुस्तान और दक्षिण पूर्व एशिया और तिब्बत की लिपियों में यह खूबी है। जितने भी लिपि ब्राह्मी लिपि से उपजी है उन सब में यही गुण है। अब वो तमिल हो, तेलुगू हो, कन्नड़ हो, बर्मीज़ हो, तिब्बती हो, गुजराती हो, गुरमुखी हो, उड़िया हो, कैथी हो, बंगाली हो, बाली की हो, थाईलैण्ड की हो, कंबोडिया की हो, सबमें यह गुण है। ऐसी लिपियों को 'अबुगिदा' कहते हैं। दूसरी बात कहावत को लेकर है। आजकल के लोग कहावत इसलिए नहीं कहते क्योंकि हमारे से ऊपर वाली पीढ़ी ने कहवातों का माला फेंक फेंक के हमें इतना मारा है कि हमें कहावतों से नफ़रत होने लगी है। उन्होंने ना नये कहवात बनाये और न ही उनके इस्तेमाल सोच समझ के किया। ज्ञानहीन लोग भी कहावत फेंक कर अपनी ज्ञानता सिद्ध करने लगे थे। कहावतें रटी जाने लगी थी। और विज्ञान के आने के बाद रटना वैसे भी प्रचलन से जा रहा था। हालाँकि कहावतें अभी भी सुनने को मिल जाती है ख़ास कर गाली गलौज करते हुए। क्योंकि वहाँ उनका सही इस्तेमाल होता है। अगर नयी विचारधारा के सात नयी कहावतें नहीं गढ़ी जाएँगी तो कहावतें मिट ही जाएँगी।

The language is Hindi. Urdu is just an effort of post mughal muslims to differentiate themselves. They were below average in Persian, Arabic. So they used Hindi, inserted some persian turk words unnecessarily and wrote poetry and other things.
