Still a classic and great movie!!! My parents dragged me with them to see the movie when I was 7 years old. I spent the whole movie with my face hid in my moms shoulder because I was so scared every time I heard the theme music. I had night terrors as a young child from it. Now as an adult I love the movie and watch it every chance I get. As a teen I even purchased the figures from the movie.

I was 9 years old when my Mum allowed me to watch Jaws, & I remember vividly to this day how when Quint slid down the boat in to the Sharks mouth how he was coughing up blood & screaming. I had never seen blood on TV before & it just freaked me the fuck out! For weeks on end I would dream that my bed was sloping down, into the shark's mouth & wake up in a hot sweaty mess. It both petrified & electrified me. To this day I have still searched for films that scare me as much but also manage the mood & tone of the film such as Alien, Child's Play, Candyman, & The Thing. But there are not many. And I think it is to do with the fact that composers aren't allowed to get their music as prominent as John did. Rest assured, JAWS shall be one of the best films ever made forever.

What do you mean "all they do is put the saturation and color up"? The BluRay spec allows 40 mbps 1080p video along with 7.1 channel surround sound,that blows DVD out of the water. If you haven't noticed,they're adjusting for film decay and technological limitations with the supervision of the original director,not randomly playing with color.

100 years, thats actually not a long time. Thank goodness we have digitale storing means now.
@sgtpepper113810 жыл бұрын
Digital storage is great and all, but it isn't proven for long term storage (how many hard drives have you or your family had crash?). A hundred years is pretty long term, and film will always be able to be projected, digital files, not so much. Plus, physical copies will be able to be created from that film master, and THOSE can last another hundred years.
@Robin_Glader6 жыл бұрын
@sgtpepper1138 Exatcly. In a 100 years, what operating system will be able to play files from 100 years ago? Problably none. Film can always be re-scanned though.
@squidwardstesticles59144 жыл бұрын
Robin Glader there’s always some kind of emulation or whatever to use old software on new machines, and you really don’t think the files would just be converted to the newer formats? And the advantage with digital is that you can have unlimited identical backups, so losing a hard drive or 2 is irrelevant. Digital storage is far better for long term storage and preservation because the files don’t age and deteriorate like film does, and they aren’t damaged and worn out when they’re used and copied.

Paramount could take a cue from these brilliant restoration artists at Universal who restored Jaws in properly restoring Raiders of the Lost Ark, a movie that came out 6 years after Jaws, yet looks worse, with some scenes unnecessarily brightened up and this unnatural yellow-orange teal. What puzzles me is Spielberg mentioned a few years ago that no more alterations would be made to his films yet if you compare the Jaws BD to the old DVD a wire balancing the buoy in the first attack scene as well as a sailboat on the horizon later on in the film are both removed. Not that this is distracting but I find it puzzling. However it's not nearly as puzzling as when I read an interview with Michael Daruty who said Steven wanted to keep the film close to the original yet they upscale the 5.1 mix, which sounds nothing like the original Oscar winning and IMO superior mono track, to 7.1!
@LPTV847 жыл бұрын
crissrudd4554 after seeing this version on tv, since most films on tv get their latest updated version (especially if they're widely acclaimed films), I must admit that the version I originally saw as a kid vs now seems a bit better. I got the 20th anniversary VHS box set and while I greatly appreciate the restorations, the more people edit this, I honestly sense that there is a loss here. Maybe it's that beauty in seeing these mistakes that I hate not seeing anymore. Plus the sound mixing isn't really great in my opinion.

My ONLY issue is that some foley sounds were used in the surround mix that were not original audio elements. The final gun shot and explosion especially. You hear metal wrending in there. Like it's a car explosion recording or something. They did the same thing with The Godfather. There are a few audio moments like that that sat me up and made me say, "That's not right." I guess after reworking the original film with this special liquid to clean up the negative, these speciallists obviously then destroyed the original because there was no way to undo it. It's a shame about the film material from 74, which is no longer available in its original version. I really hope that Spielberg knew what he was doing and gave his consent.
@michaelkuhlman8833 ай бұрын
I don't think that liquid "destroys" the original film. It dries off quickly. Plus, Universal made a new restoration negative that is even better.
