January 14, 2015 All of the world’s best Big wave surfers had gathered on the north shore of Maui, for what was being forecasted as the biggest paddle-in swell in years. One thing was certain, nobody was sure just how big and good it would be. It is an El Nino year, the winds were unusually calm, and the tides were at extreme levels, these combinations could lend to a massive day of Surfing.
The Morning of the Mega Swell started off like most days on Maui. Sunny, and small surf, but the buoys had picked up to 24 ft 19 seconds over the night, the winds were light and variable, and everyone knew something large was the way.
9:00 Trevor Carlson and Conner Baxter catch a few opening Rides and Kick off the greatest day of Surfing to that date.
The swell starts to pulse and extremely large sets, “tow sets” start coming in, but the conditions are just too glassy to tow.
2:00 Aaron Gold strokes into a massive wave that instantly becomes the largest wave ever paddled into by bare hands.
“ Hands down the biggest heaviest day ever paddled. Conditions were so amazing all day, that in its self was incredible. Hard to believe but in my head I was actually expecting it to be bigger than it was. When I got my first wave i had only been in the lineup for 20 min or so, I was sitting wider and out cause the last few times I got big ones I felt a bit late and deep. It was so weird cause, God just sent it to me. I saw it coming and I knew it was a set, but didn't think it was something special. I just knew I had to turn and put my head down to get it, it wasn’t till I got 3/4 down the face where I thought the drop should end and it kept going. It was funny looking back at it because I had never rode a wave like that and it totally threw me off and into just hold-on mode. Every big wave is a new experience, and next time I will know a little more and hopefully be able to ride it to the channel. After I paddled back out I got this second wave in the video. I just wanted to get one more and ride it out. The wave had a step in it and was a bit bumpy but It looked like was going to barrel, I held on and set my line but it clamped on me and pounded me. I broke my board and the third or forth wave after sent me straight to bottom and bounced me super hard on reef. Was super thankful to be not seriously injured and got in safe. This was truly a special day, everyone did amazing and I am so proud of all them all.” - Aaron Gold
3:00 Pedro Caladoo, a 19 yr. old from Rio De Janeiro Brazil, Ups the ante on the left and catches an approximately 70 foot face wave, he flies down the face like a big mountain snow boarder and proceeds to have the heaving lip land square on his head.
3:15 Mark Healy catches two large waves in the 50-60 foot range. This day is quickly becoming historic.
Standouts of the day were, Kai Lenny, Torrey Meister, Mark Healey, Alex Botelho, Ian Walsh, Aaron Gold, Pedro Caladoo
The session lasts up until dark, and the guys make it back to shore with little light to spare, braving their way throughout the closing out bay at Maliko, to land the Jet Skis.
The general consensus is that this was the largest surf ever paddled into to this date.

yes yes yes finally some water shots and water shots of the left, soooo many vids are distance films and never from the water showing the left, so more water vids please, the drone ones are quite boring too..water shots of surfers coming at you are the best always...:)
