Steam trains in America! This coal burning steam locomotive is on an old Pennsylvania Railroad line in Ohio with a caboose and 3 passenger cars. It is the first steam train on this branch line railroad in Lebanon, Ohio in 2 years. This is the Lebanon, Mason & Monroe Railroad just north of Cincinnati, Ohio and south of Dayton. Diesel trains normally operate on this tourist line railroad. It ties into the Indiana & Ohio Railway near Mason, Ohio. Trains operate on 161.385 and there is no freight service on this line. The steam engine is Lehigh Valley Coal #126 and was built in May of 1931 by Vulcan Iron Works in Pennsylvania. It was restored by father and son team John & Barney Gramling and travels by truck to various railroads around the USA. It uses about 100 pounds of coal and 100 gallons of water per mile. It made round trips on this line that totaled about 6 and a half miles each. The Gramlings are from north east Indiana and have several other steam locomotives. This is Part 1 of 2 parts and is filmed in 4K. Part 2 was posted on November 24, 2021.

Thank you for this video with steam locomotives for which I have always had a preference. Long lines of these machines were built. Let us quote for example the series of 1,340 locomotives type 141-R (heated with coal or with fuel), built for France at the end of the Second World War. Only 1,323 units reached their destination as a result of a sinking cargo ship. These locomotives were built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) and by Lima Locomotive Works in Lima (Ohio).

The Lehigh Valley Coal Company #126 "Sadie" is an 0-6-0-OST saddle tank engine, built by Vulcan Iron Works for the Lehigh Valley Coal Company, and put into service in May 1931. She is now owned by the Grammling family in Indiana.

We used to ride up Mt. Washington (NH) on an old cog steam railway engine. Now the steamer just goes once early in the day. The rest of the trips are diesel. But it’s still an amazing ride and worth the early trip. Love seeing and hearing this! I can almost smell it.

Nothing slack about that horn on the Turtle Creek train. Liked how that crossing had no right turn for trucks, so many videos made about the misfortunes of trucks whom misjudged the turning radius of their rigs. Those carriages with windows restricted was one of my jobs about nearly 30 years ago, I was only doing my job. Hope I didn't spoil anybodies fun. Loved the video, takes me back to a time of innocence, a word nearly forgotten ! 😎👌👍😁

If you watch the movie Benny and Joon that was filmed here in Spokane Washington, the opening train scene is from Ion Washington. The Lyons used to run a train trip like this for many years. Pullman cars, open-air cars, and a caboose. Great views from this train as you will see in the opening of the movie. I would take my family on it before going into Canada for the day or weekend. It was also the filming location of the movie The Postman.

That's a nice 0-6-0ST locomotive. We'd call it a 'Saddle Tank' locomotive over in the UK here. It's no tiddler of a saddle-tank locomotive either! The 10 years re-building it puts a new slant on a 'Ten Year Ticket of Fitness For Use' that Steam locomotives need to go through every ten years over here. The gents turned out a great restoration of the locomotive there. Very nicely restored Coaches too. Is the caboose a restored item? Thanks again Jaw Tooth. Well worth the watching. Keep Well there. I love it that they are running a steam locomotive on the Lebanon line. I haven't got to see it run yet. I never paid attention that their caboose was an old DTI car. My paternal grandfather worked on the DTI working mostly their northern routes, coming out of Bellefontaine when that Logan County town was a big rail hub. You always get some great train shots.
