This chop is the number 1 reason I put J Dilla above DJ Premier, Pete rock, and Kanye as far as pure hip hop production. Dilla could make a beat that sounded like any of those producers. But if you ask each of those same producers if they could duplicate a Dilla beat the answer is a resounding NO. Dilla was in another universe.

I respect this take always, but I will say, Dilla was a little more one dimensional even tho he was an absolute master when it came to sample chopping and 'boom bap' drums...but realistically you think he could have made stuff that sounded like sounds from 808's or MBDTF?
