In the back of every father's mind they think their kid can do it. I have 4 grown up children I thought that about all of them. I think a poor boy can become a millionaire I did that. I actually married a classy girl and she fell in love with me. She was a lawyer and we have been together over 50 years. I did not agree with Obama but he did become president that says something about our country. The dancers on this show some of them was fantastic one was did choreography for the original Broadway production of a chorus line. One was a lead in it.

Apparently two guys, peddling their songs, came knocking on his door circa 1967 in the 'JATA' office of the famous 'Brill Building' in NYC - those two guys were Donald Fagen and Walter Becker later of 'Steely Dan' . He managed them for a time and they backed 'JATA' on the road prior to SD formation , keyboards and bass respectively.

The Drifters version, with Rudy Lewis singing lead, was much better than this. But it was felt at the time that an African-American group singing about “growing up to be President” was a no-no. So the pre-recorded backing track was given to Jay & the Americans. Nowhere near as good. Rudy Lewis followed Ben E. King and preceded Johnny Moore as a Drifters member, and sang lead for some of the Drifters’ biggest hits and best songs before his untimely and premature death.

Which US Prez came from the poorest, shittiest background? Anyone know?
@Thomas6Anderson10 жыл бұрын
James A. Garfield was born into poverty. Grew up in a log cabin in Ohio. In spite of becoming President, he was penniless when he was assassinated. Abraham Lincoln was also born poor. (And coincidentally, assassinated.) Lyndon B Johnson was also born poor. The comment in the song is a bit tongue in cheek when you consider the fact it was originally written for, and first recorded by, The Drifters. The original lyrics included the lines: "Only in America, land of opportunity, can they save a seat in the back of the bus just for me. Only in America, Where they preach the Golden Rule, will they start to march when my kids go to school." (This was in the early 60's well before integration.) The record company (Atlantic) had a "problem" with those lyrics and it was rewritten with satirical lyrics. The Drifters re-recorded the song but refused to release it with the modified lyrics as they felt it was a farce. Hence, it was given to Jay & the Americans who recorded it and released it. The song writers were also not happy with the rewritten lyrics.
