@@mauricewilliams4588 the difference is that roman reigns was pushed way too hard as the new face, aka, John cena's replacement, even though fanshas chosen Dean Ambrose or Daniel Bryan to take over the mantle. He's nowhere near captivating as a character, skilled on the mic, nor as good as a wrestler as Jay White. Despite getting endorsements from triple h, brock Lesnar, the undertaker, the rock and etc, fans still rejected him, because it was too forceful. Didnt help that they presented him wrongly also. Instead of presenting him as a bad ass baby face, they presented him as underdog baby face, which obviously did not suit him. Whereas Jay was presented as the next big thing (like okada when he came back from his excursion), but they let him grow into his role over the course of 2 years. Now he's NJPW number one heel in the business, and the top 4 heavyweights (other being okada, naito and Ibushi)

The fact the belt is so exclusive that a legend like Suzuki or even to some extent Ishii have never won the championship (and probably never will) adds a lot of prestige to the title and gives a lot of credibility to the one holding it. Plus the IC Championship in NJPW is more like a secondary heavyweight championship (That even main events a lot of shows) rather than treating it as a midcard strap which some companies do, so it can be used to elevate wrestlers instead.

However, WWE has devalued *all* of their top four titles: World Title: Ever since June 19, 2016 when all 3 members of the Shield held it, the belt has been more about who is holding it than its own legacy or even the feud over it. The only person who actually treated it with any respect and elevated it since then was Jinder Mahal, bowing to it and professing that he'd only lose it when someone out worked and outsmarted him, but the fans hated his reign. Universal Title: The only reign that wasn't a sad joke was Kevin Owens'. That said, not only was he literally handed the title, he wasn't even the best part of his reign, Jericho was. Never having it on TV doesn't make it exclusive, it makes it forgotten. Intercontinental: Ever since the Miz elevated it in his 2016 reign, almost every reign without him holding it has been wasting its reputation. US: I can't say that it had any weight before this moment, but Ziggler abandoning it for no reason (contract talks) on December 16, 2017 began an era of no credibility for it. It started well with the Tournament the following month, but there hasn't been much promise since then. The Raw Tag Titles have also been a joke. Strowman winning it as a real low point.
