I wonder if a nba team would look to hire jay wright
@user-ff1ez5sy5h4 ай бұрын
at 5:49 mr jay wright (quite an impressive leader in his own right) explains how jalen brunson did what we thought kyrie was doing when kyrie left lebron and cleveland. jay wright summed it up: being a buck stops here type of player/leader in the nba is a tremendously rare and unique thing. there are lotsa all-time top 75 greats who arent that combination of skill plus leader plus clutch. think about it. it's a very rare and unique combination of things. kyrie as stunningly good as he is and has been couldnt fully carry a team as the man. the fascinating thing to me is that i think he wanted to be that kind of player. i think that's a big reason why he left lebron's cavs. remember, he looked up to kobe. and this is what kobe in essence set up when he forced the lakers to choose him or shaq. alot of great players want to be leaders and winners (the man) but actually doin it is a scary journey fraught with failure. brunson may never win a ring as the man but props to him for working towards it and going for it. as jay wright implies it can look selfish - but looks can deceive. and let me add that most fall short. i wish kyrie had stayed in boston and made it his team and pushed those young celtics to greatness. yes it would hav been an intensely grueling grind - mostly psychologically so. look back at kobe's insane push to win a ring without shaq. but now it's legendary. as it would hav been for kyrie. and kyrie knew it and wanted it. at first. but then cold reality hit. yes. it would hav been legendary. and truly, i think that's what kyrie wanted and planned to do back then. but then, life and obstacles happened. and so he left for brooklyn. and then left again for dallas. cuz this shi kyrie almost tried to do; and jalen is trying to do ..is unique, rare and very hard to do. when it's your team the pressure is unfairly immense. on the mavs, for example, there's more pressure on luka than kyrie. most people that criticize players falling short under the effect of pressure hav no clue as to its enormous weight. this excellent jay wright interview gives a beautiful glimpse into the mind of jalen brunson. but also josh and donte. and reveals imho alot about kyrie. all four jalen, josh, donte and kyrie hav something in common in 2024. they are committed to winning. kyrie jus took longer to get to this place and to find a role he could be truly comfortable with. on a sidenote, coaching is alot about helping players find their role and finding their peace.
