I couldn't agree with Myke-C and his thoughts on hip-hop talking about how rich the artist is now days. It's everywhere, and I'm fucking sick of it. All you hear in hip-hop are lyrics about Rolls Royce Phantoms, Ferrari's, and Lamborghinis, etc. That shit gets so old, I don't even feel comfortable listening to it because I can't relate at all, I'm the person they're mocking for having less money than them.

Watch the Throne was dope to me. And a lot of the songs will be amazing when you see them perform it live on tour. And remember, Jay said they re-did the album 3 times. At first, it was over the top lyrically but they want to make it more of an album that people would enjoy. So far its up there with my top contenders of hip hop album of the year. 1. Cunninlynguists - Oneirology 2. Jay-Z & Kanye West - Watch the Throne 3. Kendrick Lamar - Section.80 4. Big K.R.I.T. - Returnof4eva

+King Matty B Raps I believe that is why beezy did not feel Jay. A lot of times I do feel that Jay changes a bit with his style when he jumps on something with Kanye. I still enjoyed Watch the Throne and I can listen to the whole Deluxe Edition, but I understand why they did not enjoy it and why more Jay Z fans were disappointed. I noticed that since MBDTF. Jay Z is changing his style a bit, and it sounds influenced by Ye but I still feel he is good. He is the only Hip Hop artist that did not attempt or have to change with culture. Culture changed with him through the 20 years he has been on. I see it that way anyway.

Thanks you guys. This discussion was awesome. Your points of view were all pretty interesting. Shoutout to Mike C-Town for what he said at the beginning of the show. He really is a punk :-) Concerning the album, WTT is not only a mediocre album. It is also a dangerous album. It epitomizes like it was never done before the conspicuous consumption. It's a shame that Jay-Z's fanboys don't seem to realize how violent this kind of attitude is to them.

@KingARSENAL14 I appreciate you writing, but no. You didn't correct me. The song was called Murder To Excellence. It was not listed as two separate tracks. Yes, I can tell by the change in beat that it was broken up, but that's irrelevant. So if I'd said that Jay came in on part 2 of the song and rapped about Maybachs and other bullshit, that'd have been OK? Fine. He rapped about Maybachs once. Then rapped about tuxes with the president, boutiques in Paris and other bullshit. Better?

For some reason I get the feeling that this is a prelude of things to come, even suggested in the name "Watch the Throne" it just reeks of a second project, I agree that they could have come with something game changing but I'm seeing this as a very expensive mixtape, dwelling in the comfort zone. Neither Jay nor Ye break a sweat, however there are a few genuinely entertaining spots, Now that we are watching the Throne maybe there is more to see from them as a duo, this could be a warm up.
@Junior13113
@Junior13113 9 жыл бұрын
Lyrically, "Watch the Throne" isn't anything great. Whenever I listen to any of the tracks from the album, it's usually for the beat, which is without-a-doubt the album's strong suit. The chemistry between Jay and 'Ye was pretty impressive, but like they say in this review, the lyrical value on this album isn't very well done. Production value is ace, but that doesn't really mean anything when you have poor lyrics. "Niggas In Paris," "Otis," "No Church In The Wild," "Gotta Have It," "Murder To Excellence," "Why I Love You," "Who Gon' Stop Me," and "H.A.M." were definitely the best, and that's the majority of the album right there, but even with all of those, the BEAT is what's strong on those tracks, not the lyrics. "No Church In The Wild" was kinda something, though, I admit.

@troyisMAJOR If most people walk away with that feeling, then the tracks you mentioned didn't convey the message properly. The message is the one people receive the most and most people are stating it's about bragging about what they have. In saying that, the 5 tracks that may have a bragging them overpower the tracks that did not based on what you're saying. At the end of the day, bragging or not, the album was not that good. @kdpflanders1 He was talking like how 12 year olds on the internet call everything, "gay." So, he was simply beating them to the punch. I don't think C is really homosexual, because on the Cypher review episodes (I think?) he said some pretty heterosexual comments.

I respect yall's opinion, but if you listen to jay's verse in "Welcome to the jungle" Probably the most broken down and artistic verse ever; Jay Mentions at least 5 legends in one bar. To me that's amazing. To the guy that said "That's not Jay-z" I say "Niggas want my old shit buy my old album."
