Lonnie Liston is fire. Feel like you can rap over a lot of his music without having to touch it, he was so much ahead of his time

For me, I think that Dead Presidents has the most beautiful beat/melody in hip hop. It's an extremely emotional background

Still dope as F... Jay or the record company has to pay Nas 25% still to this day (for every sale) for that sample in the hook. That's the deal MC Serch made for/with Nas... $2,500 cash and 25% of the royalities (as he said on an interview on here somewhere). Serch is executive producer of Nas early stuff and has to sign off as executor if Nas asks him to do something.

Lol nah. Nas sample is everything but that track fit Jay lyrics perfectly back then. I’m not saying he’s as dope an emcee as nas but you gotta give him credit for that first album whole thing is pretty much one of the dopest Hiphop albums. It’s not as good as illmatic but it’s still a classic

The original sounded plenty good enough without the Rap. Older music that was created perfectly makes it easy for current artists to capitalize on the way blues artists had their music ripped off by white artists and labels in the past. Time for artists today to stop dipping from the well and create something that’s sample worthy and unique.

Sampling is a bonafide art form within itself. He used a small element from Lonnie Liston Smith and made something different. Lonnie did get a check for that too. That's doing good business .
@solitary25 жыл бұрын
Jazz and blues literally birthed rap/hip hop. It’s the mother/father of it, and it’s created someone of the most iconic tracks ever. No. Anyone can sample anything, but everyone cannot make it special
