Man Detheroc really let himself go. (I don't mind, it, give him some visual distinction for what is otherwise a throwaway characte but still funny to know dreadlors can get fat, must have feasted on the souls of couch potatoes...) and Varimathras just has the darlingest muton chops. This mission is hard to play through, yeah. Although I do lie the concept of it. Block the passes is a good one, we haven't seen since.. man the first Starcraft, I think (that mission where you had to stop dark templar to escape as Kerigan)

Today's 3 skin of Paladins in this mission are Halahk the Lifebringer, Magroth the Defender and Dagren the Orcslayer. And the 3 previous skin of Paladins in Digging up the Dead mission are Lord Nicholas Buzan [Gavinrad the Dire], Normal Skin of Paladin [Ballador the Bright] and Sir Gregory Edmunson [Sage Truthbearer].

I've always enjoyed clearing the map on this one for some reason. It just felt appropriate considering we're supposed to be purging the remaining living beings... though honestly, wiping out _all_ of the living strikes me as a bad idea if you want your forces to be able to continue growing. Ideally, Arthas should have spared a small population of live people and kept them spread out, under guard, so they could keep birthing more live bodies and gradually turn them into undead over time. Maybe find a way to turn the living populace into fanatics that worship Arthas or the concept of Undeath that view becoming one of the undead as something of an ascension.

I finally beat this mission on hard I started with Kel Thuzad’s side because they sent the strongest units his way, those healing wave knights. Placed mines on the 3 farms each but it didn’t take them out, so I used death and decay to finish them off in a 2nd attempt. Buy lots of healing potions and mana potions while doing so. On sylvannas side, mass produce banshee’s and turn off curse, possess those larger spearmen. You’ll be set on that way. Arthas’ side is the least to worry about, mass produce abominations and animate dead and send them to attack farms.

I had to go back to check when exactly the villager escaped. Apparently it was at 14:44 when you were with Sylvanas destroying the last farms. You had a really great start which was fundamental to have the least problems in the worst mission, starting with Kel'Thuzad was the best decision.

I'm glad I finished this on my second attempt today. Moving Arthas to the other heroes^^ I remember back in the day this was the only mission I could not beat on Hard on my first playthrough, excluding the Secret mission, which I never really tried until recently.

For the secret mission, you need to max out Kael's Flame Strike ability and use it to weaken enemies before they are released. It doesn't seem like much, but the total damage adds up when you can do it to 12 enemies. Many waves include heroes, so drain their MP to replenish yours. The downside is there is no tomb of training the first 3 chapters so you can unlearn banish. I personally didn't find it useful.

For me, I would aim for the castle one last, since Kel'thuzard's side is the one that needs defense the most, I would summon lots of ghouls and several necromancers at the back, and let the skeletons do all the killing in the surroundings. As for Silvannas's side, along with her banshees, is like a gold mine of militia captains and commanders, so I would purposely delay her side for more advanced human units. And King Arthas's side is just fine, just summon lots of ghouls at the back and several abominations at the front. I do this strat until I can decide my next move, I usually do the altars last.

Yeah Kelthuzad’s side is the most annoying, with those helping wave knights. I attacked the farm on his side first with goblin mines and kelthuzad’s ulti. Makes the mission easier. Sylvannas side just posses the spearmen

I think the hardest one to use is Sylvanas. Arthas is the easiest for obvious reasons. Whenever I use ol' skelly boy, I mass use Ghouls and Necromancers, basically swarming every base I find. I use the Ghouls as both fodder and extra corpses, while the Necromancers do their thing and summon SkElEtOnS to swarm. I think it's a good tactic.

Very true. Sylvanas *can* be the easiest, but you have to actively be disabling Curse, moving to the Mana fountain, and possessing the strong merc units that do Chaos damage. In that sense, she requires the most attention to babysit.

The Militia Captains are infinitely better possession targets than the knights. Not only do they actually do more damage, at range - they actually have more health, auras and critical strike. I always hate cheesing; the missions are supposed to be difficult - and I was hoping to see how someone did it legit - I struggled for a bit - electing to turtle with Kelthuzad, and have Sylvanas work her way up to assist him with possessions on the Holy Knights.

What do you define as cheesing? I feel these lines tend to be arbitrary. Is rushing with KT to death and decay the left farms cheese or is only using mines to destroy buildings cheese?

It is not a condemnation of you - I guess everyones definition of 'cheese' depends on their own opinions; it just pains me when a mission can't be done the way it was intended for one reason or another - which is the games fault, not yours. Specifically using mines to destroy the altars in the middle is what I wouldn't be able to make myself do because of how it trivializes most of the mission. I was able to do it after several restarts; but the weak point is of course, Kel'thuzads inability to deal with any form of stiff resistance. It IS possible to do this 'legitimately' but it's a miserable slog. I think this is one of the few missions that were just horribly overtuned for Reforged.

Why do you say that destroying the altars that way wasn't how the game is intended to be played? Perhaps the map is way harder than it otherwise is intended to be without doing that. By the way, this mission really is not any harder to easier compared to the classic iteration.

@@JayborinoPlays Also I forgot to mention - they recently changed Hard difficulty for Reforged - to actually make it more difficult; I do not know if you have played since then. This was a few months ago (about 4 months) - during the 1.33 patch - the patch notes were vague but they definitely changed and tuned the hard difficulty to 'Challenge seasoned veterans'. Most of these tunings/changes were targeted at the RoC campaign but the TFT missions did get a pass of touch ups and changes. Such as starting gold mines having much less gold - attack waves sooner, and with less time between them. The first mission with Sylvanas in TFT where you only have ghouls and banshees is miserable. Varimathras and Purple attack you alternately every minute or so.

When there was 3 remaining village, the wave doesn't stop, it just keep coming. I cant even put other troops on the other side, because of the Paladin who guarded at the middle map, even when I destroy the altars, those units still attack. It sucks.

This mission took me 2 hours to beat cuz I have to keep cycling through each bases to make sure I have to keep my units on guard, Those tanky Militia Commanders with their healing wave are a proble for Kels side, Sylvanas side tho I just need to keep possesing those tanky militia captain spearmans and then cycling through destroying those farms, Arthas side is the least to worry about cuz you can just spam abominations to defend for the moment, Kels dps on his side is so weak so I have to prioritize it

Well, it is Reforged. They might of gotten rid of some of the tomes. I think I was wrong about the agility tome though. - On Kel'thuzad's side, the health manuel is hidden by some trees outside the entrance of the far right village. And the strength tome is like somewhere in the middle along one of the paths.

I utterly despise this mission. It's unfun, extremely challenging and just sits uneasy. "slaughtering" and "obliterating" innocent people just trying to flee after somehow surviving the scourge. Ugh. And then the constant alerts every 2 seconds. Excellent guide though, was able to complete following your strat!
