I bought a 1.5 dci tekna new in 2017. 60 k miles later all trouble free, I still enjoy driving it. No it’s not a Ferrari but a bloody good every day car. Think you had a downer on it before you started your review.

I like my Qashqai. We had Audi and VW prior to this. The German VAG superior build quality is just a myth; you get frequent eye-watering bills for stupid stuff that shouldn’t go wrong. The Nissan is comfortable, smooth (CVT xtronic doesn’t seem to get good reviews, but it is far superior to VAG jerky DSG in my opinion. I have had Audi and VW DSGs and they aren’t great.) It’s cheap (when you buy a few years old) and cheap to run, plenty of space for kids, lovely panoramic roof. It’s not the quickest, (I would still say adequate) but get a stripped out racer if you want that not a fake 4wd!

The main reason for having an crossover rather than a hatch is ride height especially getting kids in and out of the rear, Older people like them because of the ease of entry and driving position.
@ApothecaryTerry
@ApothecaryTerry 3 жыл бұрын
Ease of access is certainly a valid reason for them. In places like Devon with hedges everywhere the visibility can be useful too. Sadly, 90% of buyers don't buy them for those reasons, as far as I can tell they want to be higher up to make them feel more important or something. I said that to an SUV owner and he got hugely defensive and started insulting me, which is about as conclusive as it gets that I was right in that case! To be fair, there's also now the other valid reason that they're common and cheap so for people looking for a used car who aren't interested in how it drives they seem reasonable. No idea why most people with working hips would buy a new one of these over a ProCeed though.

I own a Nissan Qashqai, and to be honest, it has spoilt me. Had two children when we bought it, now three kids, so it's a little too small for taking on holidays, but nothing a roof box doesn't sort out. With the roof box, I average around 46mpg, so I just leave it on the whole time. Around 50/55mpg without it. The thing is, when you own a tekna with all the bells and whistles, it's very hard to downgrade or compromise. Trying to get an suv with a bigger boot that has hill hold, electric heated seats, electric handbrake stop start, keyless entry 360° camera, park assistant (more of a party peice) auto lights with main beam assist, lane keeping assist... you just can't get that much kit on a bigger suv for reasonable money. My next car will probably be the Nissan x trail just so I can get all the same kit with a bigger boot.

These things seem to be driven almost exclusively by people with no spatial awareness or lane discipline. If I am going to encounter a driver who cannot maintain a constant speed, doesn't ever leave the middle lane no matter how long and clear lane 1 is, or is completely oblivious of other traffic before pulling out or any other manoeuvre without signalling, it's more often to be one of these than even an Audi or BMW.

I agree with you on crossovers, then again SUVs are not very roomy either. I once drove a modern RangeRover and felt quite claustrofobic, very closed in. Apart from a van the most practical cars are still MPVs. I have driven a few French ones and currentlly own a Grand Picasso for a daily driver. They do not drive to badly and have lots of space, I can easily carry 4 big tires with the middle seat row up. Great cars to haul parts! But then I love all cars, have owned cars as different as a Ford Ka and a Audi A8... And loved them both!

Crossovers, the only thing i like about them is that they go over speed bumps without catching anything. One of my friends has one of these, whenever he parks it using the reversing cameras he always hits the kerb even though it looks like it's genuinely missed. The 19" wheels have tyres (225/45-19) that no shop ever seems to have on the shelf. It takes about 5 button presses to change the language on the infotainment

We actually just leased a Qashqai Tekna MY2021. But to be honest i'm a bit disappointed when i realised how many of the features I've read and saw about before, was removed on this MY. So we are now looking into cancelling the lease on it. Nissan choosed to remove many features from the last version/MY of the old Qashqai. There is no Pro-Pilot anymore (the blue botton on the steering wheel is gone), no Blind-Spot Warning, No adaptive cruise control, no lane keeping assist/steering, no Bose-speakers, no assisted parking etc. Not even in the Tekna- version. Instead they upgraded the seats a little and the wheels. Very strange that you reduce the number of safety features in favor of looks. And to be honest, the lease was for 36 months and in 3 years that car will be very outdated.

@francisgaliegue6645 3 жыл бұрын
While I agree with that, the problem is that there are not that many estates for sale nowadays... And while I am a strong and vocal supporter of electric cars, they do have a problem: since the batteries are down low and take up space, manufacturers take up the excuse to make cars taller than what is needed (look at the Polestar 2 for instance; that some people say it is prettier than a Model 3 is just baffling to me)... The fact that this is the current trend is a boon for them. So called "crossovers" are already the majority of EVs proposed for sale, and it is even worse with the announced models. I want a Tesla Model 3 estate. That's it.
@Maurice_Moss
@Maurice_Moss 3 жыл бұрын
@@francisgaliegue6645 I always put the cross over obsession down to an image and status thing, people who wanted to look wealthy bought SUVs like range rovers x5s etc, and crossovers seemed to mimic that style of car 🤷🏾‍♂️ that was my theory anyway. But yeah I heard that EVs have to ride higher to protect the batteries.
@francisgaliegue6645
@francisgaliegue6645 3 жыл бұрын
@@Maurice_Moss Actually that is not a problem of protecting the batteries. Materials are plenty strong enough for that. The real problem is that since the batteries sit low and the favoured architecture is the skateboard architecture wherein the battery pack is basically under the passenger compartment, you have to make the passenger compartment sit higher since a battery pack is thicker than, say, an exhaust line. However, this is no excuse not to find solutions to make the passenger compartment that high (cf Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT). Plus, in the near future, the battery pack will be a structural element anyway, so the height argument is going to thaw like ice under a bright sun. Not that that will make SUVs go away, but there will be no excuses anymore for the "battery packs are thick" argument.

If like me you like to sit down in a car not perched on it then these cars are not appealing at all. I'm afraid they garner favour from school run parents. My wife all 5' of her got into an Evoque from a mini and wants to return to a mini ASAP. The Nissan Cumquat doesn't move the game on but does give plenty of kit for your money plus it is reliable. This is one of those "I've made up my mind to down-play everything about this car" type reviews. It's unfair to compare this end-of-the-line model to a new (boring, bland, pay extra for everything) Golf. Nissan have started production of their new mild hybrid QQ recently. Apparently, Nissan have upped their game significantly with the latest model. Compare the Golf to that to make a fair comparison. German reliability is not what it used to be either. You need to live with a car 'really, really' long term, to understand it. I own a Qashqai diesel for 7 years & best car I've ever had, comfortable, good roadholding, genuinely economical, well equipped & very reliable. I drive a new-ish Qashqai for work on occasion (care worker, Motability car). I must admit, for what we need it for, it is very capable. It's easily accessible, comfortable, safe, quiet, and quite a nice place to be inside. It's just a very relaxed and drama-free car, which makes it absolutely perfect for transporting disabled passengers. As for driving it: it's not going to set your world alight, but it's certainly better than I'd expected. It rides more like a family hatch than a stereotypical SUV; very stable and smooth. The seating position is decent too; high, but with plenty of adjustment for comfort. However, there's one big thing that spoils the entire car in my eyes - the gearbox. The god forsaken Xtronic CVT gearbox. It's honestly horrendous. Think of the most dimwitted and useless excuse for a gearbox you can imagine and mate it to an engine with no discernible torque whatsoever, and you have this Qashqai. Don't get me wrong, it's far from the slowest car I've ever driven, but you can feel how much the gearbox is strangling the performance. Coming into a national speed limit and want some brisk acceleration? Better wait while the accelerator sends a telegram to the gearbox and await a decision in 6-8 weeks. Want to set off quickly from a roundabout? Well you may only crawl for the first few metres before all the power will suddenly come on at once and you'll go skidding into the central island. Want to keep a consistent speed on an undulating country road? You can't, because the gearbox will strangle all the power as soon as you go downhill, only to panic and kick right down when you start going uphill, so the car is revving its tits off whilst making no progress. I cannot understate how utterly hateful I find it. I think Qashqais certainly have their place in the market, and you could do a lot worse. But for the sake of your sanity, don't even consider the CVT

This is not a fair and objektvie review ! Compare a Qashqai with a Vw Golf (50 p more expensive) and a Defender at least triple its price. All know is a mide size car with high boots - easy to come in and out - not a true SUV with big trunk. There is a reason why its on the top of list of the sales world while - bang for the bucks simple as that. If u should make compares do it with Dacia Duster og Ford Kuga a Huandai or Kia - if Vw so Cross or Touran and the Nissan can deal with them all - build quality is ok and over avarage but sure knops and plastic dosnt feel like a Defender or Golf yes - but the its simple - the price !! This 2gen Qashqai is at the end of its life spand and 3gen is months away - and 2gen still competive. Sure not a runner with 140 hk or 160 hk but slow far from it ! Top tip go for the 6 speed manuel . Disapointed of JayEmm here - seen all his youtube reviews and first time i speak up - but this is simply not good, detailed enough and fair !

I HATE Qashqais! They are just so... ? Neh?! Yet I know people who love theirs! 'Oh, they're so NIPPY!' blurt the usually female - but far from always - drivers, who are, to a woman, not in the least interested in cars. Why should they be? I hear the detractors roar. Because people who are interested in cars make better drivers. So, Nissan have made a car for people who are not the least interested in cars. Which is why Nissans are nearly all Blandocars. One friend had a V70 AWD for a company car for a while. She hated it, because it was not as 'nippy' as the Nissan, which we all know is rubbish. What 'nippy' car lovers mean is that the car is relatively light, and gets away from stationary quite well. And they are not remotely interested in anything above 30-40mph, and what happens on the motorway. If I had a pound for every Qashqai I have seen pull out to overtake, which then takes about a week to actually start accelerating, I could retire today. It says as much about the quality/skill of the driver that they hadn't thought about starting to accelerate BEFORE they pull out to overtake, as it does about the car they have chosen to ruin the look of the roads with. And to nail JayEmm's point - what is the 'crossover' tag, a stupid, meaningless word in itself, supposed to represent? It is not a 4x4, and even the overseas versions that are, are shit off-road cars. Why make a car that is or looks deliberately bigger than it really is? Storage space is rubbish, less than the average hatchback. And who, if they enjoy driving, would chose a Qashqai (hoick, p'tui) over a similarly priced Golf? 'Oh, they're so easy to get in and out of' (because they are a little higher than a proper car?), which naturally puts the centre of gravity much higher than a car car, which means they are less exciting to drive (unless you like to roll a car from time to time), and less fuel economical than a lower-slung, less drag-y car car. Plus - unless you are 80 years old, what does a moment's more effort to get in or out of your chariot really mean? Lazy? Unfit (probably)? Too easily convinced by the vendor of this 'feature'? Nuff said. I could go on, and on, and on, but I'll let you off for now. Just, please, don't by one of these puke wagons! (Bear in mind that it will fall apart long before even the heavily Ford-flavoured V50s and 60s of the same year)

@bobphillips2188 3 жыл бұрын
@@briantitchener4829 Hee Hee! Clearly not a fan - but here's a thing: do people buy cars because they are GOOD, or because they are POPULAR? For the two generations of my driving life (about ? 47 years-ish), many people have bought Vauxhalls because they are popular, not because they are necessarily good or reliable. Over the years Vauxhalls have been at best middling in reliability, and for many of those years, after almost everything went FWD, they suffered the most awful understeer, and were in no sense a 'driver's car'. Yet people who grew up with a Vauxhall in the family tended to buy Vauxhalls as they grew up. Just as I stuck with Fords for many years until I 'discovered' Scandy cars, built like brick shithouses, made to last. While Saab have gone as a car company, and Volvos have been watered down due to the Ford Effect, and have suffered too as they have succumbed to the silly AWD nonsense + moving from RWD to FWD a generation ago etc, Japanese cars have improved little in longevity. How many 20 year old Qashqais will be on the road, ever? So, 'drivers' don't buy Qashqais, and people who want to keep a car seriously long term don't buy Qashqais either. And buying a car simply because it is popular is no excuse for buying one! It's more the lack of real thought that goes into buying a car - like a house, a pair of socks, a tent or pair of binoculars - that irks me. I know - I have nothing to do with how and what and why people do and buy the things they do... But I can't help losing respect for anyone who doesn't think for themselves, and just follows the herd. Finally, popular because it is popular, or popular because it has some redeeming features - the Qashqai is a pointless-looking, overly elaborate and busy-looking dustbin. Though just my opinion, mind (-;)~
