1. I hope you're doing well, man. 2. The 6.75-litre V8 is just... bonkers. It is a stupid engine but it's kind of charming. Revs like diesel, sounds like thunder. I think if conditions are possible you should revisit the 2008 Bentley Brooklands. One of my absolute favourite Bentley alongside the Conti SS and GT3R. 3. That history of Bentley video is one of my favourite. Shame not many people watched it...

Twilight is when cars look their best. No exceptions. The optimum would be half filming in gorgeous sunshine, and half at twilight. Alas - this is England! 6 months ago and back, we had nearly a solid year of rain every single day! There were about 10 days of gorgeous sunshine interspersed, and then the other 9 moths were literally 100% rain. Like living in Scotland... Only they get 9 less days of sunshine! 😂 Aside - Mate of mine in Edinburgh had a friend from Australia to stay. Ozzy said "hopefully the rain will clear up before I go home!" Oh dear dear friend... Oh deary deary me! My mate said "the last 81 days were solid rain! The 82nd to 88th were snow... Good luck!" BTW the day he left was gorgeous sunshine 😂 Scotland seems to KNOW when foreigners visit, and makes sure not to lose her reputation!

I used to drive a couple of these years ago and they were my favourite luxury saloon by a mile. They're quiet as standard, but there's a lot of resonator/muffler going on - with a little less of that, they don't seem much louder but do growl more under load. One of the ones I drove was one of the B6 armoured versions, and weighed more than a small moon. It had bigger turbos though, and the exhaust was more open, so it just made more noise, more of the time. It was lovely. It had around 600hp and weighed 3 tonnes or so, 0-60 was somewhere in the 5 or 6 second range. It was no rocketship but it just felt like it would never end. It comfortably, and I do mean COMFORTABLY did 175mph as well, and the brakes were very capable of bringing it to a stop - but only once. It had one big stop in it and then the brakes needed some miles of airflow to get back to usable temperatures. It was like driving an MX5 in the snow as well - due to the weight, it would slither around really easily, with my preference being for Continental tyres as they would smoothly transition between grip, a bit of slip, and full on slide, while Pirelli P Zero Rossos had more outright grip but then let go in one sudden moment and vapourised into a pungent cloud before you could lift your foot back up. I've driven and owned all sorts since, and barring my old E39 M5 I've never driven anything that felt so naughty and lovely at the same time - your nan would say it was a beautiful gentleman's car, but then you could do laps of roundabouts looking where you're going out of the side windows. Gah I want one again. Thanks James. Git.

Firstly, glad to see a video from you James. Secondly, It looked like, just for a second, that was a shirt in homage to the 80s coin op ‘Rainbow Islands’ On second inspection it isn’t and it’s a crying shame. Thirdly, a Bentley with a deerstalker, coat hanger and what appears to be a pink tutu in the boot would seem to be driven by the correct type of owner. Finally, I truly hope all is well after the news from the other day with both the injured driver and yourself, James.

If you do have the GM four-speed, do not despair. There is a huge, sophisticated aftermarket because they made so many of them for many decades, and in several upgrade versions. You can tune the shift behavior to be smoooooth, normal, brisk, sharp, up to brutal. The kick down can be set to respond to your right foot for mpg, normal, or very high rpm’s which drops it right back into the fattest part of the torque band. Overdrive is available, too.

I did The Bentley Drivers course in 2009. 1 week of learning Bentley cars range and foibles.. and driving. Nothing flash, no J turns or that kind of stuff … after all we were driving Arnage mostly. The set up at Bentley Motors was a revelation. A typical Arnage took 3 months to build(IIRC) the more recent Bentley Continental or Coupe took 16 days. The cars were part assembled in Germany(body specs and paint all complete) as well as power train etc… all assembled on the same production line as per customer specs. Convertible, couple and saloon.. each stage was started at different times.. the furthest out being the leather upholstery (again IIRC) Whilst there the final Arnages were being completed. All In all a great week and a privilege to have attended..

Easily the best car channel on KZbin. I've long complained that a lot of KZbin people in former times would have had their own TV show in better times. This one is my go-to example. Jay is the best of the best. That being said, even those TV channels have seen horrible accidents happen. All of them. From top to bottom. It's tragic feature of, well... Life! I'm extremely proud of your channel. Very very proud, totally vicariously of course. And we all see the pride that you have. Your concern is who you are. You're a good bloke What I'm trying to say is, your channel is legitimately a grear automotive history. And we all know that there's been a tragic and upsetting accident. But it is and accident. A terrible accident. My prayers and love and (whatever your values) hope?, go out to the contributer who kindly lent his passion to this channel. A lot of people have a lot of passion for this little thing you have created here on social media. And I'm sure the gentleman who lent his own passion would agree - this is an important and lovely little group of enthusiasts here. I'm genuinely praying for his family. I hear that he will, God willing, make a full but hard recovery. If the family would like to ask for help, or privacy, either way, I'm sure that this wondeful community of lovely people will do their level best to help in any way they can even if that means just not prying! Peace and love and all the best. And please, Jay, we are all here for you!

I hope you both are recovering well. I always liked this era’s Rolls more than the Bentley as this shape, for example is a weird mixture of old and new industrial design. I terms of the shirt, I suspect that soon, if this hasn’t happened already, you will have to start buying up old fabric stock from closing down sales or ask shops to check their end-of-roll stock, then getting your shirts tailor-made.

Lovely car Jay. Hope you're doing ok since yesterday. Nothing to do with Bentleys but I'd love to see your review of a late phase 1 (2004 or 2005 before GM destroyed it by penny pinching) Saab 9-5 Aero. Do you think you could do that? I know you had a Saab at one time (9-3?) and didn't get on with it, but an OG 9-5 is a very different beastie. A much underrated car in my opinion (I'm not at all biased. Honest 😂).

Hope you’re holding up well! My late Grandad had this same Mulliner level 2 spec in a later car that was Champagne Gold car with a cream interior (sounds garish, but looked absolutely sensational!) & he adored it! He had a lot of Bentley’s in his life & they were his favourite cars to own. We sold it when he passed, but kept some of the other cars…and yet I still do really miss it! Because it was GLORIOUS! Loved seeing this & it made me think of going to & from some good trips to the football with him!

We took our Continental R through Europe and it cost us £900.00 in petrol. Ours had the 6.75 V8 with a single turbo and it was always entertaining. When opening the taps the Turbo would spool up with a satisfying whistle and then boom!, you were gone. Absolutely nothing went wrong even when crawling through traffic at 38 degrees. Like your Bentley reviewed here they always want some kind of attention and that never stops, just when you think it's right something else will empty your wallet. That said, what a fantastic experience.

The Black label twin turbo's were developed by Cosworth of course, and that was actually one of my first jobs their, started in 1998 iirc. We were really limited on turbo's back then, compared to the massive high efficiency snails, and that made thigns quite hard in terms of the trade off between power, torque and of course boost threshold, hence the "loose" TQ in the tranny allowing a fair few revs under even quite light throttle inputs so as to get some airflow through them. The brakes undoubtly were the weakest link, you never quite knew if you were gonna get the things stopped for the bends if you were on it :-) Also little know fact, for the original twinturbo with the garret blowers, we actually did the power certification tests twice, because we made too much power! Yes, we accidentally made the best part of 470bhp, and had to turn it down a bit and restest to allow the marketing team there 450bhp target figure!

The six and three quarter/6.75 is such a better engine than the yawn BMW engine…big mistake putting it in the car to begin with.

Jay I'm reluctant to post this comment because I'm unclear regarding your current mental state, "post incident", however if you read this I hope you take it positively. The Grand Tour was one of the greatest automotive shows of our generation and their health and safety budget and oversight was probably unparalleled even by today's standards, yet still, Hammond's rimac "incident" was a harrowing experience that no one will ever view as a shortcoming or a strike against the producer, director or any of the presenters of the Grand Tour. As much as we try our best to avoid them, accidents happen, even to the best drivers in history. I hope your mental health is in tact and I wish the driver a full recovery.

Ive been leaving comments on multiple videos of yours asking you to do a review on the Mulsanne but never saw one or a reply. I just picked a Mulsanne up myself to go alongside my DBS. The Arnage is nice, but do yourself a favor and go and grab a Mulsanne with full mulliner spec.

Both are units of torque, i.e. the maximum amount of force being applied to the crankshaft. A newton-metre is a smaller unit than a foot-pound, so 1000Nm is 737.562ftlb.

Torque, not talk. Torque is a measure of turning force. 1 pound foot is a turning force of one pound at the end of a foot long lever. Horsepower is related to torque and RPM (horsepower = (torque X RPM)/5252. That's why every torque and power curve graph has the two lines crossing at 5252 rpm. You can look at it like this: Let's say your 100 lb dog fell down a cliff (don't worry, it's okay). You have to rescue your dog so you hook an electric motor that can make 100 pound feet of torque up to a 1 foot diameter pulley, put some rope around the pulley and hook it up to your dog. Assuming the rope weighs nothing the motor could just barely pull your dog up. Now, let's say with this set-up it takes a minute for the motor to winch your dog back up the cliff. If you found another motor that could do it in 30 seconds the second motor would have double the horsepower of the first. Looking at the torque and hp curves of an engine will tell you a lot about how it will drive.

You take into account insurance rates. You take into account that anything breaks or malfunctions on it, you'll be re-paying the full cost of said used Mazda MX-5 each time it's in the garage.... Plus, road tax in that nation; no it's not remotely worth it.

The comparison with it`s brother from another mother, the Rolls Royce Silver Seraph are interesting. Both great cars in their own way but i think the Roller would be more fun to live with, ( ownership ) and most likely more reliable!

Yes, the early ones can eat their camshafts, and replacements are no longer available. Really you're looking for a replacement engine by that point - good luck on that. Same with several of the electronic modules that can fail, though most of those can be repaired at significant expense. Suspension components are pricey and ball joints and bushings wear as you'd expect on a car of this weight. After driving several with obvious and obviously expensive faults, i gave up and bought a SZ platform Bentley instead. Driving dynamics on those are much older feeling, but for just cruising around they're great, and better supported for parts.
