One day I was RE-watching this video and I saw how John was actually playing this riff.....WOW!!!!! If you pay close attention you'll see that his right hand, the rhythm hand hitting the strings, never changes. The entire riff is played with the exact same strumming, all that changes is his fingering on the fretboard. It's truly unbelievable!!! The man has mastered the instrument!! I don't say that lightly either, I've been playing music for over 40 years, Flea is one of the reasons I am a bassist! Watch it again for me, and when you do, look very closely to how John is playing this one, if you can see what I'm talking about it will blow your mind. Trust me.
@marksbispo3 жыл бұрын

he never got fired from the band, he left of his own choosing, much to the other guys' dismay. Frusciante mainly left the band because he didn't like the new-found fame that came with the success of the BSSM album. Jamel, as you are going down the Chilli Peppers rabbithole, it seems appropriate to suggest Jane's Addiction. Jane's Addiction is another LA band who's members have intertwined the Chilli Peppers, and vice versa, and though they didn't quite break through to the mainstream the way the Chillis did, they had a HUGE impact on the 90s alternative scene. Great songs of theirs are "Jane Says" "Aint No Right" "Been Caught Stealing" "Stop" "Mountain Song" "Three Days". Totally rad band.

I like how you didn’t pretend you’ve never heard the song. You are straight up about “maybe I have, maybe I haven’t”. The three RHCP concerts I’ve gone to (2017 2x and 2022) they opened with this song.

You GOTTA do Higher Ground from RHCP. It was a cover from Stevie Wonder and their biggest hit.

JAMEL! George Clinton produced Freaky Styley for RHCP! They even performed together on the Grammys in 1993 (with P-Funk)(link below to a FB vid). That next spring, George and P-Funk performed at the Masonic Temple in Detroit. I lucked out and got front seat tickets! My sister and I were two of about 20 white spots amongst maybe 200 Black folk on the main floor. I'm looking around and I see a large group of teens and very young adults, pretty much all white, pretty much all wearing flannel, up in the mezzanine level. That performance with the Peppers on the Grammys had brought P-Funk to a whole new audience. Two minutes into the first song, the velvet ropes got moved from in front of the stage and I spent the entire two hours at George Clinton's feet! All the kids up top were encouraged to come on down. There were fewer than 300 people total and it is, hands down, THE BEST concert I've ever been to. We all partied as one huge family; it was a thing of beauty! I am SO thankful I was able to attend the One Nation Under a Groove Tour in '19, George's final tour. Between my first in 1994 and my last, 25 years later, I got to see George and the family four more times and wish it could've been every year. This performance from the Grammys doesn't showcase either band at their best but who cares? It was funkalicious! facebook.com/RockAndShopPeru/videos/836031820207258
