Although on the tv appearances back in the day lots of artists lip synched on shows like Solid Gold. But yes if they did concerts they did not lip synch if that is what you are referring to. Funny thing I loved auto tune when it was novel when Cher used it. But not the way it has been overused.

@DarkDutch007

There are so many songs released in a year, at the start most of them get lots of playtime and after some time only the good songs get replayed on radio or other streaming service. Not every song from your favorite time is good, 60s and 70s and all other decades for that matter has produced, next to the quality stuff we all still love today, also some crappy songs, you forget them cause they get played no more UNLESS it was so crap it turned popular again. So even a song from 2020 has the possibility to still get played after 10+ years, but maybe just like today, on the specialty radio-stations that focuses on a couple of decades. And don't forget that people have different tastes in everything, and someone who was born, say 10 years ago (not me) might like the music from his younger times when he/she is 50+. But like I typed earlier, time will tell what will be categorized as crap or a gem.

February 7th,2024, we lost the last surviving member of the original Spinners, Mr. Henry Fambrough. The legendary Spinners have such a catalogue of music, and this hit was no exception. No one riffed like Mr. Phillippe Wynne and Bobby Smith was the other fantastic lead singer. What a performance is right!!!!!! The Spinners forever!!!!

A number of years ago I was working security where The Spinners preformed and you can't believe how good they really are until you hear them live, unbelievable. After the concert a gentleman approached me wearing an older looking Spinners t-shirt and said that one of the band members had asked him to look them up after the concert. He was so genuine I took a chance and called their room and they said to bring him to their room. Well come to find out he had grown up in Harlem and watched the Spinners earlier in their career at the Apollo. The band treated him like he was the celebrity. They were some of the kindest people I've ever met. Later that night I ran into that gentleman and the smile on his face was amazing, he just through his arms around me and thanked me. Yeah that was a great night.

Performers of the past, did what they did because they were passionate about it. They did one night stands for years, maybe decades before they made any money. And most of them never really made that much money. But they knew their craft, their business. They knew how to deliver a performance. Same can be said of the great jazz and blues traditions prior to rock and roll.

Jamel, you just gotta hear the spinners doing their thing from the 60’s. There are classics like “Mighty Love” and “Sadie” that are nothing but soul. Pure and simple. These are songs your Grandparents listened to.

By ‘76 the Spinners were nearing the “ Elder statesmen “ era as performers. They were a well oiled MACHINE! It’s incredible watching these guys getting down and rocking that crowd! Great song! Peace!

Yes! This was a great time for music. Pure talent. Every band had a great horn section...and everyone actually could play or sing..no artificial help. If this doesn't get you movin', there's no hope for you!

The poor audience. Back then we were told it’s not polite to respond while the music is played. Wait to the end, then clap. People watching now think the audience is dull, what’s wrong with them? Nothing, it’s just a sign of the times. You can be sure that in their bedrooms these kids were blasting the music and dancing

It was also a TV broadcast, so they were probably worried about the noise running over the sound of the band. (No so big on the separate channel mixing for broadcast at the time.)

The Midnight Special was one of my favorite shows as a young man. That was back when people sang with talented passion and didn’t rely on electronics and computers to make them sound like something other than normal. Some of the best performances I saw were on TMS. I’d love to see you react to the Canadian band Triumphs video of When The Lights Go Down.

I remember marching in parades in the late 70s. We owned the streets with this song. People dancing all along route. Passion does not cover the feeling it brings out.

I ♥️ The Spinners! My parents used to have House Parties and I remember them playing this song and everyone there doing the Rubber Band Man Dance. Even the little kids would be upstairs with our rubber bands having the times of our lives.

The difference between the Four Tops, Temptations and the Spinners, the Spinner always looked they were having fun. All 3 groups made some amazing music, but when the artists are having fun, it resonates.

One of my absolute favorite songs and a fantastic group of musicians. I love the Saturday and Monday format. I know you appreciate the one-of-a-kind performances that Don Cornelius saved for posterity so a little love for Dick Clark and Burt Sugarman wouldn't be out of the question. These performances are more than just music and dancing, they're recorded history. These groups will never perform like this again, they were at the height of their careers, and time has moved on. Cornelius, Clark, and Sugarman, have preserved some of our National Heritage with these programs.

The thing about the music "then", compared to "now", is the positive energy and joy. Sure, a lot of it was acting, because when performing Live, you needed to project the feelings in the song whether you felt that way on the day of the performance, or not. I am sure that The Spinners grew tired of performing this song after dozens of rehearsals and performances. But they could SELL it. Watch these guys on stage, and you see them smiling at each other and projecting the fun of performance. Like the nice old woman in "The Ladykillers" said: "They call it Hippity Hop music. It don't make ME want to hippity hop..." Crude language. Gangster messages. Anger. Hate. Who wants to start their day with THAT as a pick-me-up?

I love how they all seem to be having so much fun. Consumate performers and such voices. When a young girl used to turn this up so loud my parents would yell at me to turn down then my Mom would come in and dance with me. The joy of being a young teen in the seventies. Such fun.

I freakin' LOVE The Spinners.....Philippé Wynne was THE man, R.I.P. This is such a great jam. On another note, you gotta do Cherrelle "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On". Robert Palmer also did that tune a few years later in the 80's.

This song for me has a lovely, happy memory attached to it. When i was little my mom was single and on weekends we would get in the car and go on adventures. I loved this song and at 4 years old knew all the words. When it would come on the radio she would blast it and we would sing and dance and laugh. I cant help but smile and laugh to myself and it brings me back to that time
