Roy and Bev returned to the UK and regrouped with Jeff Lynne Joining and the cross over from The Move to ELO happened with assorted releases turning up on different names to fulfil album contracts. Y'see here in the UK, this song is played every year without fail. Basically it's not officially Christmas in the UK until you hear Wizzard, Slade, Mudd, Cliff Richard, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Wham, Shakin' Stevens or the Pogues whilst out shopping at least once. He plays almost instruments as well as producing and recording. His most requested song is this one. During one concert, Roy forgot the words and fell about laughing. He has always believed that costumes and appearances are just as important as the music.

Roy knew Jeff before that when Roy was in the Nighriders and Jeff in The Idle Race. Ace Kefford had wanted Jeff for the Move much earlier, but Jeff could not comit (probably just as well as the extra time away made it better when he did join with Bev , Roy and shortly later Richard Tandy, bringing some of his earlier written material and complimenting Roy , their interaction on 'Tonight' shows how they worked together.

This song dates to 1973. Roy Wood was in a band in the late 1960s called The Move. This also featured Jeff Lynne and other members of ELO. The move devolved into an early incarnation of ELO, which Wood left to start Wizzard and Lynne took control of ELO. Wood can play multiple instruments, sing, and write- kinda like Prince. Wood dressed like this most of the time. His taste in clothes is eclectic, to say the least. "See My Baby Jive" is arguably their biggest hit worldwide, but this song is a radio staple in the UK that gets flogged every year. "Flowers in the Rain" is another song you can take a look at. They were sued by Harold Wilson over the cover of the single and every penny of the band's royalties went to charity. And they do to this day.

Wizard are part of a very rich musical gene-pool from Birmingham, the Midlands in the UK. The Move, ELO, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Slade. Some huge hits amongst those names! All from 'the Midlands' in the UK

I love Roy Wood. He once said his hair had gone ‘prematurely pink’!

There aren`t too many Christmas rock songs, this is one of my favourites. Roy Wood the singer of Wizzard went on to form ELO. Two other great rock Christmas songs to check out are Slade - Merry christmas everybody and The Darkness Christmas time

Ah Roy Wood. I first saw this on a VHS tape (remember those/ 30+ years ago. Not many folks on this side of the Atlantic know who Roy is, but he was in the Idle Race in 60s and The Move which Jeff Lynne joined for their last album. The Move's original version of 'Do Ya', 'Message from the Country' and many others come highly recommended. Thanks and Merry Christmas.
