OVERNIGHT IN A HOT TENT IN DEEP SNOW

I often get asked if I'm scared of wildlife. The short answer is no. At this time of year, I am not afraid, even when there is clear evidence that my tent is surrounded by animals. I am seeing lots of tracks around my tent. Some of the tracks look like they come from a coyote. Others look like they come from a mink or maybe a martin.
Some years there are next to no tracks around my tent, but for some reason this year, there are more than ever.
Join me for a night in the deep dark forest.

Jay, you have to setup a trail cam. It would be interesting to find out who you’re curious visitors are. Plus you could check the SD card while at the tent.

You know your business and how to behave in the wilderness. You face a challenge every time you go to your tent and that already needs a lot of courage. The wild world is never the same and that's what makes it so fascinating. Keep safe Jay 💕

Love seeing you enjoying it so much out there, Jay. Wish you would build (or have built) a two bedroom cabin out there for you and your family to enjoy for longer than one night at a time. I know you would probably absolutely love to spend an entire weekend, if not longer, out there. A nice, comfy, cozy cabin would definitely fit the bill. Great video, as always. Stay safe!

Your videos are always calming and informative. It is reassuring to know that you don't have to worry about the wild animals. It would be no fun if you were scared...especially in such a remote location. Have you ever had an incident with an unwelcome visitor? I still think it would be a good idea to have a firearm handy. That was an awesome smoked sausage and fried egg breakfast. Add some hash browns and it would have been perfect 😉 Looking forward to your next video.

Jay. What you need for fire are those popular chips in a tube! I did a bushcraft course a few years back and the guy demonstrated lighting a fire using one - as something you might have in your picnic box. I haven't eaten one since. I used to love them. 😞 But if they have so much fat that they could be a substitute fire lighter well that's not great. That thing burned for ages! Give it a go.

I see mountain lion tracks in the deep snow up the mountain a hundred feet above my house. I'm always with my 80 lb. Plott Hound and never feel threatened. Coyotes are really light and steer well clear of my dog. Wolverines have huge ranges and seem shy of bigger animals like humans. Saw one 15 years ago in Glacier. Scared me -- thought it might be a griz cub. It came up a pass and crossed below me. When I realized what it was and thought about it, I was very! happy I didn't get in its way. Saw some really big but very shy coyotes, probably coy-dogs, in the mountains around my house. They don't like big animals like me either.

Obviously the cold is the greatest danger but a managed risk you prepare for. The greatest risk otherwise is your ax and your cooking oil. Easy to get complacent. I remember one episoide of Daniel Boone where his hatchet glances off a branch wrong and embeds in his knee. I was pretty young but all that exposed gristle made an impression. You know you can put out a grease fire with a couple of handfuls of flour or more if needed. Baking powder is better as it is inert but you probably have bags of flour out there. Always good to practice that outside sometime. Of course you don't throw it in the air it will burn to like that but you put it on as a clump and it will smother flames.

The wolverine tore up the 2 wolves in less than a minute and had them running off yelping like domesticated dogs and the screams and sounds coming from the wolverine for that minute it was engaging the wolves. my uncle said he has never heard anything like it. Like a little skunk sized demon from hell letting out a war cry. He showed us the footage and it sent chills down my spine. So Ya I understand you natural and proper fear of wolverines. Lol 😬
