Coach should never be on the court approaching the Official. Officials did this correctly. 1st Official gives coach the much deserved (very patient T given the scope of this game), then the second Official tosses him and thats exactly how it should have occurred, although it took waaay too long to boot his behind. After the first T, he should have sat down, coming back on the court yet again, should have gotten the 2nd T immediately.

The first Tech I’ll defend the coach a little the ref was a little quick with it. I know the coach told the ref it was bull manure but the 2nd he deserved completely. M. Brown. You are correct. If a player, or coach, calls a time out then you grant it. If the team calling for the time out does not have any then it is a tech. As an official myself I use to let the coaches know how many time outs they had left in my early years of officiating basketball. Nevertheless, I got away from that because table crew made an error in telling me that a team had more time outs than they did and of course, they called for one and did not have it. So, how do you think they blame? Me, the official who told them they had more than they did. So, from that point on when a coach ask me how many they have left, I tell them to check with the official scorer. Not me. So if there is a controversy I just tell them we have to go by whatever the official book has. None of the rule books, UIL (our state governing body), NFHS says that it is the officials job to notify the coaches of how many time outs they have, or do not have.

As a 30 year basketball official, HS and college, the thing that most concerned me here was the crowd along the baseline. That would not happen in any of my games. And no coach will ever, EVER come after me. He will be long gone before he takes the second step on the floor. As far as the TO, it is a technical foul. Period. In football, such TO requests should be ignored. In basketball, they aren't ignored. I would go to the benches after a TO and tell them (if they were out) DO NOT REQUEST a TO. You will be penalized for it.

As a clock operator, this is precisely the reason why I keep track of timeouts whether or not the scoreboard displays them. Even if it doesn’t, a coach and players should be fully aware of how many there are left, as the bookkeepers should tell coaches about it. Referees definitely handled this situation well.

The official has an obligation to grant any timeout requested regardless of how many timeouts have been used. The way the high school basketball rules are written, each team theoretically has an unlimited number of time outs they can take. However, each team gets three 60-second time outs and two 30-second timeouts for free. After that it's a technical foul. Rule 5-11-6 of the high school rules says: "Time outs in excess of the allotted number may be requested and shall be granted during regulation playing time or any extra period at the expense of a technical foul for each."

The behavior depicted in this video reminds me of one reason I disliked my time at Saints and high school in general, I could never get on board with giving a crap about sports, winning banners, school "pride" or "spirit". 4:18 says it all... ugg ("mob rules" is in you strong says Yoda). Kinda clued me in at an early age, the whole false sense of worth that people create for themselves (guess that's why I never chose to follow any religion after having experience Catholicism in my youth). They (coach who drew technicals) apparently tried to call a timeout when they rebounded but the ref's missed it. Someone was saying they had no time-outs left, but the video and description doesn't support either way (that I can see, duh). Coach was upset, the ref was obviously tired and didn't like the call being called BS. I can see both sides of it. For those that say the coach is completely to blame, sorry no. I was a ref for 2 years and this isn't necessarily the reason why I quit refing games. Refing during that time was a way to make some extra money on the side. There have been and always will be parents/coaches that complain. Some do it less obtrusively than others. My rule has always been unless they can no longer control themselves, don't make physical threats, and don't disrupt the game-flow (for the most part) then the game goes on. In this situation, see my below points. If I was Official: I'm not blowing a technical in that situation unless the coach makes contact or I feel saliva from his mouth. If I was Coach: I'm not going to run up and yell full throttle to a ref. But I'm probably going to go up to him and tell him he missed the time-out. It's important to remember (when a coach) the ref has complete dictation of situations like this. It's important to be empathetic to them when you approach them to point out discrepancies. It's also important to remember (as a ref) that the coaches, this invested in the outcome of game, are going to be sensitive to possible discrepancies. Best tactical thing to do in both cases, is just to take a deep breath (and exhale) before engaging in dialog. In this instance both parties are to blame for the game's outcome.

Coach did the right thing. He knew , at this point, the game was going to be decided by a single referee. Instead of the kids blaming themselves. The coach took the L like a boss. Like a good leader would. Refs are crooked if given the opportunity. They’re human and they have feelings too. They’re ultimately vindictive because they have control over a percentage of the points in a game. Mostly, in critical areas of a game. Either way, good game. Should have been decided in overtime but it is what it is.

I agree with you totally if refs were doing that the entire game. It was the correct call but don't assume that the Refs have been calling everything like you mentioned. That is the problem I have with refs. If it is a foul in the first minute of the game, it is a foul in the last second of the game.

Puckman637 apparently I have hit a sore spot with you because you are probably a past or present official. I appreciate you backing your fellow officials. But I don't give these guys a free pass just because they chose to put themselves in this position. Yes they are in the public and yes they do a good job most of the time. Yes they are human and makes mistakes also. But that doesn't mean I have to overlook these mistakes. At my job I get critiqued everyday on my job performance. My employer has that right. I do appreciate officials and respect the job they do. Don't tell me just because they put on the uniform "all" officials are of great integrity just because of that uniform. And don't tell me that all of these officials have gone through this intensive training at high school levels. That would be insulting my intelligence. How do you know I don't officiate different sports or just because I'm not an official I don't understand or know the rules or how the game is suppose to be played and officiated. So get off your high horse and take a good look at what I commented about before you start preaching to me.

The rebounder traveled. The time out request by NFHS rules would be honored resulting a a Tech. The first T to the coach either was an acceptance of the intensity as his entry unto the court to verbally accost the official should have resulted in a flagrant T thus ejection and the 2 shots. However, which official acknowledged the request - he would have had to determine player control before making the call and clearly able to identify the requester. What discipline was handed down by the league to the coach? How did his school handle his ****storm. How sad for these kids that their "role model" blew it!

The funny thing is. The first Tech the kid missed both FG's.. If the coach didn't open his mouth. they probably would have went into OT... But it was the 2nd & 3rd Techs that did them in... Refs called it spot on.. Coach had no business crying...

Good work with the Officals. The reff kept his cool issued out the technical then got away from the coach. And his partner stepping up for the 2nd T/ ejection. Not making the original reff call that. Good work!

Damn ejection. Should be an automatic forfeit and school fine. What good is "Ejecting" if you are only going to bring them back? Schools wan't to send a message to parents for child poor behavior, do the same for coaches.

Unless I miscounted, after the ejection, how many free throws did the player actually get, looked like he got 4 or 5, am I right, and if so, even after the ejection, why so many, thought it was supposed to be like 3

Why did home boy get like 5 free throws? The game was tied and the ref messed it up.I would have busted a LaVar Ball and walked off the court as a team.These ref want to get that involved in the game and feel special and let personal feeling get involved to the point were it affects the outcome of a great game than you should be at home or working at a gas station but not or a basketball court.

Coach str8 blew the game but again it was a technical foul for #3 calling a timeout which would give Saints 2 free throws & the ball. But again even tho the coach's techs + the Chris Webber timeout = 6 Free Throws, the kid missed the first 2. so if they just gave him the ft's for the chris webber timeout he would've missed 2 & then Saints would get the ball back with. 1.5 left on the game clock & it would probably go to OT
