@@chadhaire1711 I know what it means. We like to call that "wheel horsepower". That figure is entirely dependent on the trans, diffs, and axles. This was a great episode. Living in Az. I've been to a number of the Barrett-Jackson collector car auctions and the array of vehicles available for sale is off the charts. It was very cool to see Craig Jackson with his '70 Hemi 'Cuda and Jay talking cars and then driving this rare and iconic car whose value is likely off the charts. I drove a '74 Barracuda off the dealer's lot 50 years ago and still have the car. Having been garage kept and driven just on weekends the past 35 years, it looks almost like the day it was made. Though the 'big blocks' were not available by this last year of their production, the rebuilt 360 with a few speed goodies added a few years ago makes for a nice cruiser with the windows down and some oldies playing on the under-dash 8-Track player. Yea, Like Craig said, the doors make a funny sound and there are some little rattles and squeaks...maybe that's the charm of the old cars. What's crazy about these old Mopars is that I can almost never stop at a light without someone rolling their window down to comment about the car, or to ask me what year it is etc. Mostly, I'm just very happy to see that Jay has highlighted cars like this Hemi on his show with car people like Craig Jackson. Enjoyed it.

It's cool that you've kept your Barracuda for 50 years.
@SteveC-p5m8 ай бұрын
@@stephenholland5930 Thank you for the note. What's crazy is that the car cost $3,460 out the door, including the tax, license plates and a full tank of gas. The only option from the dealer was the 8-Track player for $40.00. My wife and I traded in an old VW Bug plus $300 cash, so our loan was $2,250 for 3 years and a payment of I think $77.00/Mo. I remember we were driving home that night with the car and she said to me; "How are we going to pay that?"'...Lol. The Chrysler/Plymouth dealer was a friend of my father's. All these years later, the son of the now deceased dealer, calls me two or three times a year to remind me that if I ever sell the car he wants the first right of refusal to buy it. He's been looking for a car that his late father sold while owning the very first of his several dealerships in the NYC suburbs back in the day. Thanks again, and take care.

First, your comment is not that simple there are many factors to consider however, a 426 may rev a few hundred RPMs that is not enough to outrun a 6-pack car. 6-pack (440) will kill any Hemi out of the hole however on the big end the Hemi will come close to outrunning the 6-pack. As a matter of fact, if they were to race 1350/60 feet instead of the 1320 the hemi would win. Keep in mind that both cars were set-up exactly the same.

Speaking of Craig at Barrett Jackson . Steve Magnante has a go fund me . As he was very sick and losing his house and selling his cars and selling his magazine collection , on KZbin . It’s the saddest thing . Craig j Leno they all need to step up for Steve . If they haven’t all ready . Spread the word .

Agree!! Sad that the world doesnt care when it comes right down to it. Steve has contributed to the hot rod community more than most others could imagine.

That's the thing about those old Mopars. Even new they didn't handle that great or even stop that well. I had a 1971 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus I bought two years old right out of high school and with the polyglas tires it handled terrible along with the factory disc brakes. I traded it in on a brand new 1975 Camaro and there was a world of difference with better brakes and radial tires.

Lots of types of cars run out of style because the generations that were interested in them are slowly dying off and them cars are losing value but these cars I think will stand the test of time itself and never lose value because of the almost religious worship of late 60s early 70s muscle cars! They are the golden era of muscle cars!

Probably just normal body rattle. Keep in mind that’s a 50 year old convertible body with 800 lbs of metal (engine and trans) sitting up front, held together with mid century fasteners. Everything will shake, rattle and roll: windows, dashboard, steering column, seats, frame for the top.

Not to long ago 1.) Jay was burned working in his car shop 2.) And most recent was in motorcycle accident. Never want to slow down but Jay has got to be little careful.

LOL you know old cars for sure. You could tell Ford GM or Chrysler by the starterm or the doors closing, etc for many years

Beautiful 'Cuda, and I have enjoyed racing that purple beauty in Forza Motorsport 7. There is a 71 340 Challenger convertible in my garage that I have owned since 1983. E-body Mopars are so much fun to drive.

Craig can afford these cars cause his auction takes 10 % from seller and buyer. People like myself that do a frame off and alot of time and hard work in these cars and Barrett gets 20% for swinging a hammer. Of course I realize there are fees on there end to hold this auction but really it's greed not need!
