fixing a bounty hunter tracker IV coil wire.

Had a little time to tinker with Guy's first metal detector that he wants to give to a young kid he knows. I know these BH Tracker IVs aren't worth much and not many people would pay to have one fixed but A) i didn't charge anything and B)it'll make a kid happy and maybe a new detectorist to post videos for us to watch. The repair made was rather simple and strait forward. The only skill you really need is to be able to find the issue, and how to ( in this case) solder.

I have problem with caesear 2 site, have 4 wire , Two white, one red and white.Its 2 pair site, one pair 2 white wire and 2 red/white

I'm not sure what that is. Try chasing them back and see. The coil wire should have continuity and is probably the 2 white wires which is actually one wire but you see both ends

Thanks for the vid, some of my wires came undone and this helped me figure it out. If anyone's looking for a Bounty Hunter coil pinout I think it's the same wiring colors on all models. I have a different BH detector and it is the same as this model. For easier reference here is the wiring of the male 5-pin din plug: 1 - Black 4 - Red 2 - Green 5 - White 3 - Shield

May have also been bad or mismatched batteries or battery connectors most likely, but kinda sounds like the detector might also have a bad switch stuck in always on disc, or tarnished coil connector pins or sockets like those of an audio jack get really sensitive when they have never been cleaned. Seeing the last of the video, probably some rust gremlins in the box shorting things out. This metal detector needs a total overhaul, probably best to buy the kid a cheap used "gold digger" or yard sale detector for less than $50.

Thanks Keith. This one was easy, I'm planning on challenging myself alot more this winter. Your weather is usually too cold to snow but here we have perfect climate for lots of heavy wet snow that's impossible to detect or dig in, but our playgrounds are mulch and freeze solid plus the kids don't even go out if it's too cold. @@jaymoge i bought a second hand Garret ace 150. When I tried it at first, it didn't work beyond 3 cm from the coil. After opening it up and cleaning all the contact point thourougly, it worked good for that moment. Next day I tried it out and it worked badly again. Cleaned it again and it worked better but still not normal. Yesterday I cleaned all the electronics with alcohol and now it works well again, but i'm afraid for the next test, that it will fail again.

Great electronics repair work there Jay. I do this kind of stuff all the time at home. I was one of those kids that ripped everything that was broke apart to see if I could fix it.

U messed it up McGiver. Buy another one with a 10” coil or Tesoro for $150. Tracker iv gets 5.5” quarters before u f’d it. 4” on a dollar coin means you’re a bad father

Does anyone know how the 4 wire cable setup on the coils are? color codes pls?I have one but no coil so i made 2 but dont know which wires go where i have red blue white and black.the red and blue are in the same shield harness and so is the black and white ..do that setup go to separate coils?

Did I tell you I had a Zircon M40 nail finder. I was going to try and put it's working parts into two pieces of pvc pipe like 1" then reduced to 3/4" like the shape of a big bullet, but better like the shape of a Garrett pro pointer. It's in a bag at the house if you ever need parts or want to use it for something.

Im trying to remain positive with my comment.. but certainly not the right way to repair that cable.. plus its a darn BOUNTY HUNTER.. Throw it away. Broken cable, broken meter..toss it.

Hey I was wondering if I could get your two cents on putting coils on different detectors. Like with Minelab I always see a 37.5HTZ or something like that as if a certain coil has to go on a certain unit. Who knows? I'm trying to get a coil for my Teknetics Delta 4000 11" or so and a new one is $179.00. I will not buy one for that I will sell the unit first. I am also trying to get a coil for that bounty hunter. I bid on an old 4" coil w/ male adapter. Kids using one of my detectors now.

Just put what ever sticker you want on it, that's what i did with my bike when i was a kid. My friends didn't know i bought a $400 Redline BMX at Ames (yesterdays walmart). SWING BEEP DIG buddy.

Nice job there Jay . By the way ... the woods are tough to hunt sometimes, with scarce finds, unless you luck on an area where people congregated long ago . Have you hunted any Old Farm Fields not in use today ? Ones that date back to the 17 & 18 hundreds usually have a nice variety of buttons and coins . Good luck next time out . BILL .
