It's kinda interesting how Freddy whose mother was overprotective to the point of being controlling and Sam whose mom was almost criminally neglectful both befriended Carly who had the best home life despite her Dad being away in the Navy for the entire series.
@sirmel113 жыл бұрын
They all had single parent/guardian households but Carly won the draw. Freddie's life wasn't that bad in my opinion. Sure, his mom was overbearing but he was a good guy.
@giorgosgiorgos23743 жыл бұрын
@@sirmel11 I'll disagree with you here. Being overprotective is nearly as bad as being neglectful, they're two extremes. We don't get to see much of it, but few of the times we got to see how living with Freddy's mom is like, we've got T-Bo who had to act and dress like a different person just to be allowed to rent a room to stay in their house and Carly couldn't handle staying there for a single night. Freddy has been living with her for YEARS, just because he's gotten somewhat used to it doesn't make it any less bad. She has put a chip in his brain, unbestknown to him, so she can always know where he is, and it even seemed to have some side-effects in one episode(I don't remember, I may be wrong). My point is that, no, while Freddy's mom was a funny and generally loved character of the fans, it doesn't mean that she wasn't a bad mother to Freddy. Sure, she's doing all of that from her love for her son, or for other reasons we aren't privy to, but let's not pretend like having her as our mother wouldn't be a nightmare.
@a-14553 жыл бұрын
@@giorgosgiorgos2374 yes freddy's mom was overprotective and controlling but she also grew in character and became more lenient trough the series, also if she were such a strict parent, she wouldn't let him hang around Sam at all. On thr other hand, Sam's mother was never there, i remember her saying she lands herself in jail all the time and obviously, being very neglectful. It's always worse to not have a present parent than have one who feels the natural need to protect their children.
@giorgosgiorgos23743 жыл бұрын
@@a-1455 I agree with you when you're saying that Freddie's mom grew in character in the series, but she didn't truly outgrew her 'helicopter' mother role. What I do disagree with, however, is you saying that it's worse to have an absentee parent than an overprotective one. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying that's there no point in comparing two bad parenting models. Sam's mother wasn't there for her. Freddie's mother was there to an extremely huge degree. Freddie's situation seems better, according to you, no? Well, I can counter it by saying that growing without her mother allowed Sam to learn stand up for her self and solve her troubles with her own strength, while Freddie didn't have that opportunity. Personally, I can't accept that either parenting style is objectively worse than the other. You can make all the arguements you want, but at the end of the day we can both agree that neither of them is good. I think it's best we leave it at that. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.

The whole Fred fiasco started because the titular internet irritation took offence at Freddie giving his honest, asked for opinion (or rather saw it as a publicity opportunity and refusing to apologise for the abuse Freddie received for it). Freddie catches the girls out in a double standard when their choice of intern is beauty over brains (to credit the intern with any basic intelligence is overly generous) rather than the genuinely good candidate who happens to make great fudge, a win he definitely deserved especially because the idiot ruined his pearpad and laptop.

Interesting to note that Freddie has his mother’s maiden name (his great grandfather was a Benson, unless there’s a separate Benson family Marissa married into if the script draft you cite is any indication) and he never shows any sign of missing his father. This suggests his father wasn’t a big part of his life, if a part of it at all. This is another indication of the general lack of father figures, and indeed appropriate adult figures in Dan Schneider shows. Yes, Drake’s mother and Josh’s father are around, but they’re next to useless when it comes to dealing with Meghan, the tormentor of the brothers. Every other regular parent or adult figure is absent, not around enough to know what their kids are up to or quirky enough to not be a reasonable authority figure.

Freddie was annoyed the girls were thirsting over the idiot intern, at first because they immediately dismissed the much more qualified Brad (who was also maker of fudge) at the sight of Kort’s open shirt, and later because they kept insisting he deserved another chance when Kort wrote in permanent marker in Freddie’s pearpad and later when his method of drinking juice from a large plastic bag fried Freddie’s laptop during an iCarly episode recording. The whole point of hiring and intern was to make doing the show easier, and Kort just made it more work. It’s not the only time Freddie being overruled or ignored has caused issues.
@giorgosgiorgos23743 жыл бұрын
Jelaous? Maybe. Annoyed? Yes. Justified? Absolutely. Freddy has been the one that takes care of the technical stuff, setting up the equiment, designing and running their website and staying up late to edit and put together their videos. He playes such a big role in iCarly, and is even generally liked by the fans. And yet, despite all that, they completely disregarded his opinions on many occasions. In the particular episode that you mentioned, Freddy had every right to be pissed that his two friends picked Kort over Brad(who was also the maker of fudge). They neeeded an intern to make their job easier, yet they decided to go with the hot guy instead of the one who had the necessary skills. And he was proven right almost immediately, when Kort started messing things up, from writting with a permanent marker in Freddy's pearpad to spilling juice and frying his laptop. The reason he hired the pretty but dumb girl(which turned out to be not so dumb in the end) was to give them a taste of their own medicine. And he still couldn't make them see his point until the very end, because during the whole deal they refused to see that they were the ones at fault and trying to make Freddy fire the girl.

Why are so many people calling it a reboot when its just a straight up sequel?
@hpos10863 жыл бұрын
@@jonte143 Whenever an old IP is brought back it's always called a reboot even if it's still the same exact thing in the same exact continuity. An actual iCarly reboot would be if they started over from the beginning with new actors. But the new iCarly show takes place in the same world as the old show and all the returning characters are played by the same people so it could be considered a new season after one of the world's longest waits between seasons of a TV show, but not a reboot.

He's not that interesting, his interactions aren't that special, and Freddie is 10 times the character that Giby will ever be. If he shows up at all in the revival series... Cool I guess. If not, I won't miss him. I know a lot of people enjoy his character I just never did. Noah Munck is a wonderful actor, it seems like he doesn't want to be attached to his role. That really speaks volumes! Gibby and Freddie don't even interact that much until later seasons of iCarly... Despite the two being in their school AV club together. Giby was never written to take seriously, so why should any of us go out of our way to talk about a character with so few layers? anyway, who's next? Sinjin?........... %@$!&! "

@@nilesw.309 It would logically follow on from the original, as the only romantic relationships to last more than one episode were Carly and Griffin, and Seddie. The former was only a two episode arc, and the latter we all know how that toxic mess crashed and burned. This was the episodic nature of the original, but since the revival is on a steaming service there’s much more opportunity to develop serialised elements such as relationships without air dates and order to mess it up.

I honestly never shipped him with anyone on the show but I always loved how he went from literally admiring and being infatuated with Carly in the earlier seasons to as time went by treating her more as a friend then a romantic partner, I mean I know the revival will touch upon their relationship again, but I always thought that his relationship with Carly was what defined his real growth as a character. P.S I’d like to believe that the only reason he still has feelings for Sam is that he’s sexually attracted to her and nothing more, despite her horrible attitude, she’s not exactly ugly and well he’s a guy….so yeah.

Freddie’s dad died most likely. Freddie’s mom is really similar to my mom who developed ocd after her father died when she was really young and her two step fathers after that also died before she was 18. One of her stepfathers brought with him an extremely violent and psychopathic son who later went to jail for murder. So even though my mom isn’t as extreme as Freddie’s mom she still has to feel in control or she spirals. When you lose that feeling of having a handle on things it takes them back to their trauma

If the Fencing Bensons were from his mom's side of the family, then his dad probably doesn't have the last name Benson himself (unless by some wild coincidence, her maiden name was the same as her husband's) I imagine his mom being a wild party animal in her youth. Her boyfriend at the time probably died or something shortly after getting her pregnant, and that caused a wild shift in her personality.

Half the people are fine, the other half are either condescending, assuming i dont go to school or uni or whatever and they try to bring down the price as if they're doing me a favor buying stuff. And they try to make me guarantee they're gonna like the fruit they buy, as if one can know what's inside a watermelon. Oh, and when they ask me questions and I explain to them what they should do, if they dont like my answer they try to get me to say sth they will like it's weird. AND they want free stuff. Some people legit go like "If I buy this, can i get a decorative pumpkin for free?" and I have to remind them there's actually a label with the price on them.
