It's amazing. Got to appreciate the ingenuity of the time and the meticulousness of the restoration.

Regarding items made to order, in the 18th and 19th centuries British consumers would order from workshops in China custom designed Porcelain and Mother Of Pearl Gaming Tokens with their family emblem on them, and then wait 2-3 years for their order to be delivered to their homes in Britain!

During that time. Goods owner always goes with the ship. At least the representative if it's a multiple owner shipment.

It's really hard to imagine how people back then did international trade. They could never ensure the safety of the ships.
@Bikepacking3 жыл бұрын
I read a lot about that ship over the years very interesting there over 200 of them sunk of the coast of China .. the reason they brought it up with the mub was because years before they found another ship .. but didn’t have the experience or knowledge to raise it ., so they hired a western company to bring up the treasures .. and ended up losing all the treasure when it came to auction to pay for the savage team … so China decided next ship they bring it up and recover all the treasures over time … them selfs while they learned the technology
@JaYoeNation3 жыл бұрын
Well they did a good job so far. They just took the whole chunk of mud and the ship together. Then slowly removed the dirt in the prebuilt building. Pretty neat

Some background perspectives to Nanhai 1. It was likely a ship smuggling goods. Its load was likely beyond the capacity of the ship and was way off the official or normal route. There were well established rules/laws in the Sung Dynasty regarding sea commercial. Things like where you can get your goods. which port and where to you can set your sail, and what route you used. These rules, of course is to ensure taxes were collected for the government. However, smuggling always means high profit and there were many people risked their lives for a few bucks. These smuggling ships tended to sail close to the shorelines which was not well charted. The important point is that sea commercial were not conducted without proper safety or knowhow. Lot of ship wrecks were resulted in using this part of the sea which was known to be unsafe.

The same problem with lost ships continues to quite modern time, hence the appearance of the likes of Lloyds of London. Guessing 800 years ago life was harsh.

That is what can be expected for the time. High loss ratio due to poor transportation system. If it weren't for storms the pirates would get the goods.

I don't know if it makes business sense to have your travel content on this channel, and your political commentary on Nuance. I understand why you did it, but people subscribed to this channel before to hear your positive views on the Chinese government, and your negative views on the US and Anti-China KZbinrs! Maybe you could still switch the channels around? Regardless, keep up the content. These are for the pre-2020 subscribers! :D
