As good as this song is if you want an epic masterpiece check out Blackbird by Alter Bridge

Thank you for recommending Blackbird. So emotional listening to the lyrics but absolutely perfect. Someday I too will fly and find you again!

I searched and listened to Alter Bridge and it doesn't compare to The Silence. Alter didn't have (as JayRuller) said the sadness just from the music in the beginning, the build up of the individual instruments, etc. Alter bridge just went into a hard-core guitar and screaming lyrics.

I wish they had included I Know How To Speak on BMTTS, instead as a stand-alone single released several years afterwards. Andy has a line in The Maze that goes ♪ Give me some time, let me learn how to speak ♪ would have been set up I Know How To Speak perfectly. I agree that the album is a masterpiece.

After years of finding many songs to add to my ever growing favourite playlist, I think this song is probably one of the best if not THE best one I have ever heard. It’s beautifully haunting, atmospheric and the incredible music, overall mix of sound, and the way it builds is amazing and totally unforgettable.
@TheFrugalMombot Жыл бұрын
The whole album was pretty much about his struggles with God, family, and the fear he had of bringing a child into the world and his fears for his daughter. He talks about being kept awake at night growing up since a boy being afraid of what comes next and about the fear instilled by the church. Also, having been brought up Southern Baptist, I get all of this so much. Also the fear of family trauma and generational curses touching your precious child - that’s what gets me to tears every time I hear this. BTW, his dad and granddad were both preachers. I think he was also dealing with his dad’s illness at this time, but he didn’t die until a bit later. I can’t remember for sure on that latter bit.

I'm not 100% sure about Andy's father, but Robert McDowell's father died after the release of Black Mile, and probably during the recording of Milion Masks of God. They had said that the album essentially became a type of eulogy to him.

It seems as though he is first addressing his sovereign consciousness and being born. "...you can go anywhere except where you already came from..." and then sounds as though he is singing to his daughter at the end. I appreciate "...let me open my eyes and be glad that I got THERE..." turns into "...let me open my eyes and be glad that I got HERE...". Seems he is addressing the suffering through his failures and his self awareness of the darkness that follows and his motivation to not have his daughter suffer the same. He seems to end it with a desire to be grateful for all of his sufferings because, maybe, it means that his daughter won't have to. I appreciate I am not the only 1 that has their emotions manipulated when listening to this song. 🤪 Appreciate your reaction. Thank you.

First half is about god and faith, second half is about family and abuse… the song is so heartbreaking (for me), because it sounds like someone who lost hope. Someone who has fought, but has been utterly defeated, and now he has no hope left. To me that is depression in the purest form, to be without hope… on the other hand it also sounds like a person after a long emotional journey, after learning a lot. Abuse and deep wounds come to the surface when you have children, that is the second part i think…
@paranormalsoulcircle31762 жыл бұрын
I started listening to this song when my Baby went to heaven. My fiancee and I started to move apart from each other, and we both end up severely depressed. It was his dream to have a child of his own. He would see men teaching their toddlers to walk and spend time getting ice cream cones or coming back from the park. It really crushed him. I also would look at my belly with all of those stretch marks and extra weight gain that I can't shed and hate myself because God gave us a gift and the Devil stole it. I have a ruined body as a reminder of what I don't have to show for.. And the reminder that I forever hate holidays. This is the second time we lost a 👶 baby 😭 😔.
