Just a heads up, that background noise can be deleted in a program called Audacity. It's too much to type out the tutorial here but there's a bunch of them on youtube and it's fast and easy to do. And it's not just when it's quiet and nobody's talking; it'll delete the noise behind your voice and the video as well.

Always liked Carlin in the movie “Dogma.” He played a priest, which is crazy because he was an atheist.
@johnjohn37371

But not too crazy. He spent his entire youth in Catholic school surrounded by nuns and priests. He has said he was an alter boy and never really forgot the Bible, even as an atheist. I can relate. My papaw was a pentecostal preacher, I grew up in his church, and I became an atheist in my early twenties. I still can recite the Bible, though.🙂

I know you're stand off ish on Joey Diaz after the one legged woman story, but trust me when I say you need to hear True Friendship at a Funeral, it'll be copywritten to hell but I believe in you. :EDIT: As someone from substandard housing in the inner city, I found that when life is continuously raining negativity on you, you either allow that to reframe how you view the world, or you learn to laugh at the pain.

George got his start in the old comedy styles of the 50's and early 60's. That era set the tone for what we see as stand up today. Carlin even appeared on Johnny Carson when he was in his straight period. But he grew uncomfortable with the limitations that networks had on stand up routines. In the mid 60's he took off the suit and tie forever and started playing his own game. He wanted to talk about the funny things he saw, give them his perspective but his honesty ran into trouble with television censors. This started his famous 'Seven Words You Can't Say on Television' sketch. That got him arrested for indecency and eventual appearance before Congress. That's when people saw the kind of comedian Carlin was. His knowledge of the English language is PhD level IMO. You can see the progression of his style as he grew older. In his later years, he grew more angry but still funny. He passed in 2008, long before all this nonsense we have now started. I can only imagine what his thoughts on the last ten years would be. I find your reactions honest, which seems to be in short supply today. Thank you for that, I look forward to your posts.

I can't say what goes on over at black Twitter. I don't Tweet. But I can tell you that making fun of things that are serious, is something everyone does, but they all do it within their little group, however one might define that. It's interesting to me that likely the same things are going on inside each group, it's just people feel more comfortable around others they see as being like them.

I great Comedian, and I mean a truly GREAT Comedian, one of the All Time Greats, well, they never just tell jokes. They bring to light those things that we may think about, but never really discuss, and they make it understandable while simultaneously pointing out the utter ridiculousness of the issue, and they make us laugh while doing it! They have complete and utter control of the audience, and they know... THEY KNOW that we are hanging on every word. George Carlin, Dave Chappelle, Bill Burr, Don Rickels, Patrice O'Neal, Richard Prior, Richard Jenni, Joan Rivers, Bernie Mac, Eddie Murphy... These Comedians are all Legends. They remind us of what is important, all the while allowing to laugh in the face of what is important! That is a very unique talent, and we are lucky to have seen them perform

Carlin started out in fifties style, generic observational humor before embracing the sixties a bit with characters like the hippy, dippy weatherman. At some point, he realized the suit and the haircut just didn't fit, and he switched to honest, and a tad vulgar for the time, real life, relatable comedy. That's when he took off. Carlin On Campus is, imo, the epitome of this phase of his career. Later in life, his intellect demanded that he begin questioning some of life's givens. He got into religion, politics, hypocrisy, and life in general. He is one of those rare artists who literally got better every year of his life...

One of the most central features of George's comedy was the no BS, honest assessment of the things that people just accept as a given, or conventional wisdom. He's probably the first 'dirbag lefty' I was ever exposed to as a kid. Always going against the grain, and always to make points about the corrupt, immoral, and intellectually vapid.

So, I'm coming at this as a fan of George Carlin (my favorite comedian next to Richard Pryor). While I agree that he's making a more significant point here for comedic purposes (which I'm sure he would puncture that sentence left and right...which I would have no problem with him doing), he's wrong about post-traumatic stress disorder. When we were calling it "shellshock," you dealt with it by having someone get into a soldier's face and say, "Pull yourself together." There was literally nothing for those soldiers even back then. Look up Sir Patrick Stewart's experience with his father-a WWII veteran-physically assaulting his mother for a concrete example of what I'm referencing here.
@johnjr757

That had nothing to do with what it was called. That was because of the lack of understanding of psychology as well as a full understanding of brain damage. Back then if there wasn't an obvious injury on an x-ray most people would say you were faking and there was (and still is) a lot of stigma attached to psychological issues. Early psychologists did understand there was a psychological injury, but there was very little actual science on how to treat it. Most treatments were trial and error. Even today we don't understand much of it, but with modern scans, more understanding and compassion we've come a long way. Unfortunately there's still a long way to go. Just look how recently we've started to learn about CTE.
