You can discover locked characters that require a quest to unlock by knocking them out. For exampke shooting a quest locked character with the laser pistol will knock them out, causing a ring of stars to appear over the characters head, you can now use your discover tool to unlock the unconscious character.

Funny thing I'm at 102 and I did kind of fast-track the game a bit but I only unlocked like three different biomes or five different biomes at the end or at least it seemed like that because I found so many freaking desert lava and swamps and the funny thing is desert was like the last one that I found I still haven't found like the like Egyptian desert or and then just recently when I had like 90 gold bricks I found my first whispering Woodlands. So now I'm just kind of backtracking I only have so many that I can create them so
